the bass crawl give you basically the best position with the least severe nodes; so yes, a flatter response. however, in a room, you always need dsp and measurement mic if you are actually serious about the set up. i have to second zeos' advice, get a mini dsp and go from there. even you buy the flattest speakers, the room will alter their response.

Paul from PS audio recommended to sent full range signal to the speakers and use a sub at the point where speakers can‘t naturally do Bass anymore without any crossover on speakers. What do you think about that?

It's a really good idea. Midrange is a huge part of the audio spectrum and giving it a little extra oomph is the way to go. Splitting the sound with a crossover makes the audio come from multiple points and our brains notice and regardless of which can do bass better it doesn't sound right so yea a sub should supplement a speaker not do half the work.

That's how my bedroom is set up. I have a pair of NHT Super Zero Xu's which only go down to 80Hz, and roll off as an acoustic suspension speaker does. I think it works well.

This is how I've always ran my system with my "big" floor speakers & subwoofer. If my mains have 4 8" woofers that play to 40hz,and I cut them off at 80 Hz....say my sub is a 12"..I would be losing alot of cone area just to use the sub, now in the car I definatly HP crossover my front stage & rear fill.

The reason the small 6" sub plays too much high frequency information, even when set on its lowest crossover frequency, is because the slope of the built-in network is probably way too gradual--like maybe 6db/oct. This could have been easily remedied by programming the low pass filter in the Mini DSP to a much steeper slope like 24db/oct.--Also, crossing over a very small speaker at 42hz is way too low--because of crossover slopes--even at 24db/oct-- it will still pass signals well below the crossover frequency. IMHO, a crossover frequency of 80hz or even 100hz would be much more appropriate--especially if a complementary high pass filter is programmed in the DSP unit. I am sold on this concept as it siphons off the low frequency "slam" to the sub which greatly clarifies the mid range of the upper units and also has the benefit of increasing the power output of those units while decreasing distortion. That's the beauty of the Mini DSP--infinite programmability.

Nicely put, also the miniDSP has 48db per octave LR filters. I don’t understand why he’s setting the sub crossover all the way down and also setting the lpf in miniDSP. IMO set the sub crossover as high as it goes to get it out of the picture and only use the LPF on the miniDSP.

I don't know how cool my desk setup is, but it's livin' large, baby! ADS L810's powered by the Emotiva a-100 and their PT-100 preamp/DAC and an SVS PB-2000 for sub duty. I swap in an Adcom 555 sometimes just to remind myself of how good it sounds. But, the L810's are 94db efficient so the Emotiva gasses them up just fine, plus the uber-powered headphone output is a big plus.

Always plan on going dual subs even if you only start with one.

She's not doing the sub- crawl. It's pretty normal to hear some voice in a sub because of the db roll off in the octaves. Try nixing your DSP and see what happens. Play it from the back of the amp only.

The 8” Dayton sub seems like a far better deal. (I already own an 8” Velodyne sealed sub. Basically great for acoustic music and jazz.) "There's still vocals in there" -- the slope on subwoofer filters is usually 6db/octave or 12db/octave. Of course you're still going to hear vocals! Let's say the bass notes are around 40-80Hz, and you're getting those at 80db. With 6db/octave, you'd expect the singer to still be around 62db, which is still as loud as quiet conversation! Also, if you go too crazy with filters that fall off too precipitously, that entails a different kind of distortion.

That sub must have a very simple low pass filter maybe just a first order at a 6 db/octave slope. This means even with the crossover set at 40hz at 80hz the signal is only down by 6db and at 160 hz it would only be down 12db. But listening to the sub in this video it sounds like the crossover is even higher than that, at 40hz it sounds more like its crossed over at 80hz at a 6db slope. This is done to save costs, a 6db/octave filter only requires one inductor and a higher crossover point means you can use a smaller inductor which is cheaper.

The 8 inch one's are likely more comparable in size/performance with REL T7i's instead, which are not a budget sub.

This stuff is basically competing with the dayton sub-800 (an 8 inch that costs 89,99) or the monoprice 12" (that costs 135,70 on amazon right now). Granted, those don't really go below 40Hz, BECAUSE 8" IS TINY FOR A SUB and monoprice ... stops at 50 Hz? wtf? And price for price, they would compete with the 12inch BIC acoustech PL-200 that does 22 Hzf or around the price of this 8 inch, but is huge. Or the Yamaha 10 inch subwoofers which go down to 25 Hz for the conventional ported and 30HZ for the SLIM ported sub you can just put under stuff.

I think he uses a MIcca Origen for the usb to optical conversion.The Topping D10 is a VERY good DAC that is rather cheap (90$) and can also do this (see his review). If you are into technical measurements check out AudioScienceReview's review and convince yourself.

I love kanto's speakers (using a set of YU4s on my desk), but the subs are a hard pass. I'm using a dayton sub1000 with my YU4s until I save enough for a rythmik/svs/hsu.

@@helsonly722 Not terrible, but you can get a much better sub for a bit more money. They're good subs, just not a good value. SVS often has outlet sales on their subs; you can save some cash on a sub with a cosmetic blemish. IIRC same warranty as new.

@@helsonly722 If you want to just get a decent sub that will hold you over while you save/decide on a premium sub, the dayton subs are very good. I still use a dayton sub1000 under my desk and it does the job just fine. Monoprice makes some nice budget subs too. There's other channels that have reviewed a ton of subs, those are worth looking into. I'm not well-versed in canadian shopping, so I'm not quite sure what's available up there. Subs are an area where you can get a lot for your money if you shop around.

Then they raised their prices, probably because Kanto is getting more popular? As I expected, it does the job and looks great, but there is a reason 99% of cheap subs are ported, and there are better values out there.
