Truly intelligent people are usually fairly modest, or at worst, realistic about their intellect. People who refer to themselves as being a "genius", "the greatest" (except perhaps, Muhammad Ali) or some other superlative are trying to compensate for something,

Kayne has so many fears like being forgotten hes not the greatest artist in the world its self proclaimed (when MJ or the Beatles was said to be the biggest artist it was said by other artists by the world and it showed in their sales) his record sales dont show it and I know he makes music for others but hes not the main name on it I can only assume he accounts those as well. He seeks recognition so terribly one day hes gonna wake up be old and realize he's not so great and wasted his life trying to convince people who didnt care, he has some major self issues going on deep his ego comes from everyone overly praising him everyone says yes to him he seems like an extremely delicate human being that cant handle being disliked.

He is clearly talking about mind-slavery: Some Kanye West quotes from the FULL INTERVIEW (not the extended... the FULL): "We've been controled by the media " "We are following other people's opinions " " Yeah, right now we're choosing to be enslaved" " By that you're choosing to enslave people's minds " 400years of MIND-SLAVERY - Pretty self-explanatory. But you just read titles and watch short cuts thus proving 100% the media control on people that Kanye was speaking about

wanna know something funnier, those people with torches are probably paid by democrats (george soros) to attend those events to make the speakers look bad because they show up all the time. then it gives an argument to tv anchors to tell you not to listen to these people because when you listen to them you start to realize how you were misled by the left/democrats/establishment/deepstate. and you realize the "facts" they gave you don't match up at all and the indoctrination you got in school and through radio and tv was misleading

you should ref this to will.i.am thats where you heard it right? yes i agree though. He must know this is going to hurt people, much like supporting trump. if he doesnt he's certainly blinded by narcissism, i dont know, he has never seemed empathetic to me. If rich musicians where going around doing good for thier community like some artists are then kids wouldn't think that what is great about success or wealth is flaunting it and spending it on expensive things. That success is far more interesting than that, that freedom from the daily struggle is about more than looking good and being ostentatious, that life is more than that.

There was no choice. There had been several slave rebellions but they all but a tiny fraction ended up with the people severely punished. Either they were shot or were branded. Sometimes, when a slave managed to run away the remaining slaves were punished. It was a harsh method of ensuring that all slaves kept an eye on each other. Of course there was the underground railroad but that too ran high risks. After 1865, Jim Crow laws were a new form of slavery. Slaves had been literally praying for change for centuries but to no avail. It only changed when the dominate part of Society was ready for change. If Kanye was speaking metaphorically - about people's perception of reality then he REALLY SUCKS as communicating. It is my opinion that Kanye does not know his history AND he lacks skills in rherotic. He is obliviously NOT a genius.

I understand why Kanye said slavery was a choice. Simply put, he meant that they allowed themselves to be in that situation, accepted their environment without retaliation. So we should never accept whats being told on us and fight for your rights. I believe it was not his intention to be that disrespectful. However, his argument was really in poor taste as we can never relate to those who were being enslaved, it wasnt exactly a choice as we have the ease of technology and information to be informed. Whereas, those who were being enslaved were born into an environment where they were told that they were less of a human being from the moment that they were born. With that environment, brainwashing, propaganda, how could anyone have an independent state of thought. The media took his words out of context and sad for him, Kanye really put his life on the line this time round.

I had my abdomen opened up, a seven inch entry, cut clean in two -an unplanned emergency exploratory surgery which ended with having my bowel removed. Due to the improvised conditions I regained full sensation within 10 hours of the procedure. It took me 2 years just to be able to talk about it, just to think about it. That kind of pain breaks your psyche into pieces, like your mind quarantines that memory along with anything close to it. You lose yourself, literally, and it's very hard to confront in order to get it back. Not hard in the "don't be lazy sense", but hard in the nose gushing blood "I'm going to give you a seizure and maybe even kill you if you don't stop trying to unlock this" kind of sense. These slaves were tortured constantly, until they were broken, and then they were tortured more just for fun. Submission wasn't a choice, to fight the impossible fight against their oppressors they would first have to fight an impossible fight just to regain control of themselves. -Many of them starving, uneducated, and inducted as children.... impossible. You can not imagine my fight, and I cannot imagine theirs. This fucking joker though, who's never known anything but luxury has got it all figured out. He's never tasted hell, never-mind has he walked the road out of it... you can see it in the eyes Kanye still has the eyes of a fucking child, you want to see what I'm talking about, John McCain is a great example. I would love the chance to show Kanye what he thinks he's talking about, and see just how long it takes him to "choose" anything ever again. I suspect a mind like his would crack quite easily, and never find its way together again. He's already a blathering moron to whom introspection is a foreign concept. Nevermind with a demon inside waiting to rip you to shreds just for looking at it -and nevermind finding a way to tame it -and then nevermind overpowering country, culture, and millions of entitled hicks with guns who want nothing more than to put you down, and maybe rape you first. Oh but it's Kanye, he writes "music" about being a badass, so he's got the dragon blood. Oh brother would I love to meet and taste that blood, I'll bet it still tastes like mother's milk.

Eugene Schenck Thanks. It's difficult to identify. It sounds neither British nor American.

If Kanye wasn't referring to what I think he was trying to,, he was likely talking his shit. For those who have no idea what that spaghetti means, basically, I'm referring to what some people call "indentured servants". Personally, I don't see that great a deal of a difference but in this case, he may have meant such. 400 years? I've heard about a concept of "indentured servants", or as Kanye said, those who made the choice, coming over here (N America) to work in labour, earn profit, and leave back home. These were *apparently* contracted workers, and with the fulfillment of their terms was a leaving back home. I don't know what to think about that.... But he may have been trying to imply something (that obviously failed terribly). Oh, and no one is trying to defend or protect the rapper.... Just relaying some controversial info. See, Kanye (and all else alike)? This is what happens when you try to tell only part-truths.... If that is what you meant to do.

What if I told you all the people that are protesting could be the ones making all they demand to happen. They just need to redirect their time and efforts and understand how the community works. All we are doing is telling someone to tell us to do what we want to do. Let that sink in.

Also, slavery as a choice for 400 years means that we've been okay with someone pointing a gun at us and saying work. It's a new form of slavery called debt...in time that will dissolve because debt just means someone else issuing us the power to do work and better our lives.

I dont think Kanye said that slavery was a choice, i think he said or at least the way i understood it, that nowadays people impede their own progress by imprisoning their thoughts and identities to the past.

also, technically, slaves do have choice unless they are literally in chains. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spartacus doesn't mean slavery is OK.

There are two different statements that came out "400 years of slavery was a choice" which the media is using Instead they should use "400 years of slavery to me it sounds like a choice" These statements are different

There is no way to understand this . It doesn’t make sense from any angle . Because slavery wasn’t a choice and neither was mental slavery. Go and read or go find yourself a dictionary

No living human being has a right to coerce or compel a fellow being against their will. Pity no one thought to write this down at some point somewhere, what with all the writing every damn human keeps holding up as holy writ...

I implore you all to go watch the original video posted by TMZ of the whole conversation before you make up your mind on the matter. Both Van Lathan and Kanye has more to say than is being portrayed in this video. If you only look at surface of any debate as deep as this, then you'll never get anywhere in terms of what to learn from it. Some really powerful things were mentioned by both sides and I don't think Trevor Noah does justice to either one of them.

Thankyou - the saddest thing is, many black people believe what Kanye said. Preparing a next generation of black youths to question themselves by self doubting their greatness.
