85 had a heavier frame than the 86 and they lightened the 86 frame by changing the gusseting on the frame along with lightening the plastics by making them thinner. When you put them side by side you can see the difference, tank and seat is noticeable. I worked for Honda 85-87 and put these guys together I also have one of each. Love your videos.

Wow! Thanks for this! Takes me back in time to stress free days. My brother lived on a farm in NJ with big grassy fields and hills. We used to ride there in summer of ‘89. I had ‘89 kx500, bro had ‘87 rm250 and friend had ‘85 Kawasaki tecate 250 three wheeler. We had a blast ripping through those fields. Felt like I was there again.

89 was the most Scary Fun of any Bike I ever had. Instant arm pump if you revved it so Torquing around a gear high was the way to stay alive! Nobody could touch me in a Drag at 120lbs!🤣🤣

I feel the 89-up engines have more top end while 86-88 are just monsters right off the bottom, but flatten out on top. Never rode a 480 though, would love to give one a try.. Minor frome geometey changes in '94, along with a wider 4th and 5th gears, better fork in '96, better shock in '97.

Just awesome! I'm from Sweden Scandinavia and I did race those bikes from 1983 whit the 480 up to 1999. I never race the AF frame and I personally think they are to stiff. I'm use to the flex from the carbon steel frame. On my race bikes I use Öhlins as I'm swedish and WP and Marzoochi conventional fork. There is nothing better they fit for different tracks ! On sand or bad conditions upside down is by far the best choice! On hard track whit Sharp edges the conventional fork is smootning your ride so less armpumps will take place! My friend Marcus Hansson did win the world championship 1994 on Hayden Honda CR500. A longer rod smooth out the engine but compression play hugh part in how it runs. My race bike had 12:1 and was run race fule 120 octane. What das that do. Stronger pull from low mid to high mid. I use stock exhaust and hole list of pipes in our days we had probably 10 different setups and the muffler length play big part how motor will perform! Sad I was not there whit you could have told lots of historical things. Did like the video much 👍 best regards from Sweden 🇸🇪 Bjorn

Greetings from England,love what you’re doing there,awesome bikes,I had an ‘87 cr500 then a ‘90 cr500,loved them both,’90 was a lot smoother to ride I found because of the usd forks and smoother powerband but loved the raw aggressive power of the ‘87.Wish I had either of them now,just even to look at :) oh and I had a maico 490 but at the time I thought it was just another old motocross bike with a weird left hand kick and decompressor,now I’m constantly searching internet to buy one again !! Hey Kaplan ,,,I have a 2000 CR500 love riding it ,,pullingWillie's in fifth gear at 110 miles an hour and pulling away form 450s like they're tied to a tree stump,,, built engine Nikka sealed cylinder,, ported,,hot crank,, FMF fatty,, Wiseco piston,, carbon fiber boyesen Reed valves, milled head, 13 to 1 compression ratio,, only run Maxima,, Castor 927,, vp110 race fuel only,, panned out speed 125 miles per hour,,,,,, 15 tooth front sprocket 47 rear,, when I go to sand dunes I put 14,,front sprockets on, and race built Banshee with snowmobile engines talk about in adrenaline Rush.
@KaplanCycles4 жыл бұрын
Big red flag went up when I saw that you use Castrol 927 with vp110 please do yourself a favor read the fine print on the Castrol 927 it actually separates with fuel that has a specific gravity above 700, BP 110 has a specific gravity of 715 as does most airplane fuels we figured this out the hard way cost us a bunch of money and wasted a bunch of time and screwed up our trip to Daytona.. the information I'm talking about what's on the back of the castrol 927 bottle, of course we never read the bottle the VP distributor came down to diagnose some bad gas at they are sold us and gave us the rundown about the cash drawer so we switched to spectro and I've had no problems since then using spectro and Maxima
@KaplanCycles4 жыл бұрын
Your bike sounds like a monster you've got the formula figure out!!! How to put down lots of horsepower!!! I'm not sure if you ever ran it on a dyno but a good solid 500 is putting down usually between 50 and 55 one built like yours is probably putting down 60 to 65 and a mountain a torque
