Iceland road trip day 5 // We had heard about a valley full of waterfalls in the middle of volcanic rock, but it would take some effort to get there. After 2 long scary gravel roads, we found this "fairytale land!"(Gjain - Svartsengi, Iceland). It was worth the ride. We ended the day at sunset on a bridge overlooking the bluest "milkiest" river we've ever seen! (Gjain Waterfalls) Iceland continues to be sunny and amazing!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started traveling full-time January 10, 2016. While daily vlogging was not the original plan, we were having way too many cool experiences not to share every single day! I was laughing so hard at you guys bush bashing to find Bruarfoss. It reminded me exactly of when my husband and I went to find it on our Iceland holiday a few years ago. It was literally standing there, listening for the water and pointing in a general direction going "I think we need to walk somewhere in that direction". Definitely brought back good memories!

Discovered you two in March, right at the start of Quarantine and honestly, I've never been so excited to watch a Vlog or series of any sort in my entire life. Your videos really bring out many memories for me as I used to travel to Oregon and Washington states many waterfalls which were not as spectacular as what you have showed us but just as exciting and having lived in Alaska for many years, I got to see the Northern Lights often and on flights between Anchorage and Seattle...they were exceptional but the ones you all saw were absolutely fantastic. 06:21 I've been there in April 2008 when it was snowing and couldn't tell where the edge of the cliff was other than a few rope boundaries and markers. The snow was hanging off over it and the water just mixed in.

For anyone interested, about 20 mins drive from Gjain are Haifoss waterfalls. The tallest (or close to) in Iceland. I feature it on my Iceland June 2019 Ring Road video on my channel (about 3mins 10). Gorgeous.

Amazing as the footage you get is, the noise of them can really ruin the experience of a place for people nearby. Gulfoss is the biggest waterfall that Ive ever been! And when I got there, everythings getting very wet and unfortunately the sun didnt shine that much so I have to change my clothes unless I will get sick hahha. But still the scenery is soooo beautiful!

I couldn't paste the 3 Icelandic letters here, but regardless, the long name at :46 needs a little explanation. The first letter is a soft 'th' (thin), #4 is a hard 'th' (this), and the 'ae' smooshed together is 'i'. So, it's th'yohth-vel-diss-BYE-rinn. I visited Gulfoss. As I remember, it means golden falls. The capital city, Reykjavik, is pronounced RAKE-yuh-veek, and surprisingly, the airport town, Keflavik, is pronounced KEP-luh-veek.

In the interior, max temp is low 70s in summer; along the shores, about mid-60s. But the kicker is the almost constant winds (end of the Gulf Stream)...and lots of rain (like Seattle). Winters never got below +17 F, but with 75 mph winds, the wind chill was terrible.
