Just to re-emphasize, the ideal receive is one that goes right over the setter. Nekoma's receiving is so consistent that Kenma hardly has to move. Hence, "keeping the mind working". Every time you see "sorry it [the receive] went long" watch Kageyama or the defense have to shift around to compensate in future games. Generally, this would lead to a messy attack and easy point for the opposing team, but Kageyama is so insane he makes up a large part of that weakness.

True. AND he can set up a quick attack almost anywhere from the court, even if the pass he got was sloppy, and that makes Karasuno's offense strong. Which I think is also why Suga stepped down for him, because he knows his abilities aren't as good as Kageyama in that regard, and that their offense needs all the help it can get because they can't have a redo of last season where Asahi was the only strong point-getter they had. They have to mix it up with a super fast decoy that can attack anywhere.

Yes! A good serve forces a bad receibe which screws up the setter's position, resulting in less ideal spikes that are easy to block. Volleyball is amazing with how each position connects

It's very accurate. At that time, Hinata only really had that big shocking move. And you really get caught up in it, like "Oh yeah he's so awesome, he shocks them every time with that move" But it shows that they can't just rely on it. Because if that's the only trick he brings to the table again and again, people will just get used to it

Ah, I love the personalities of the setters we've encountered so far. Kageyama: Looks like he can kill you, but would rather scream at you for being dumb and also he's grown so much from ep 1 to ep 12 what a little rock star. Sugawara: Looks like a cinnamon roll, and is actually a cinnamon roll with a heart of gold dead set on making his team win. Oikawa: Looks like a petty kid disguised as a k-pop idol, and can actually kill you with his killer serves wtf he's so good at those. Kenma: Looks like a cinnamon roll, but can kill you once he gets enough info on you

I love episode like this when they venture into the different play styles and characteristics of the team and players. You'd think that they'll would turn super technical and boring for the casual sports audience but they still achieve to be incredibly character driven and set up interesting themes and questions. Each team is unique and that's one of the strengths of this anime: the crows fly over the walls, the cats scratch each and every point. It's actually amazing how the Show literally made Hinata and Tsukishima opposites (in almost everything, as Kenma had observed). The height, the personality, the way they play (Who plays by pure instincts and physical abilities without much thinking vs Plays by thinking but lacks physical abilities such as speed etc). Even the names. They're polar opposites.
