One of the hallmarks of a REAL karate blackbelt is distance control and footwork. Real blackbelts don't allow ANYONE (who they deem a threat) to get close enough to them to attack w/o the attacker having to EXTEND themselves to do so. If this is allowed, you've pretty much already lost unless you have really good boxing skills.

So I really got to see what worked and what didn't. I didn't lose very often. And one thing that always worked was maintaining the right distance.

Karate: It's very linear, isn't it? On the other hand, Silat and Filipino Martial Arts are one of the same thing separated by Islam and Catholicism, Middle Eastern and India Sub Continent cultures versus Spanish & Portuguese Iberian peninsula culture....a combination of martial arts from India combined with Chinese techniques, circular and flowing, more akin to traditional Jiu Jitsu... For those of you who do not know, the entire Philippines Archipelago, Indonesia, Malaysia and most of Southeast Asia was Hindu brought by Indian merchants to these parts over 3 milliania ago. Along with religion came governance, architecture, mathematics, geometry, philosophy, and way of warfare including weapon designs, e.g., Kris swords a d knives, shields, bows and arrows, spears, Martial Arts of Southern India.

Shotokan is very linear. traditional Okinawan styles are both linear and circular. Hard and soft. Much more effective for self defense than Shotokan. Especially at lower belt ranks. And yes I know this for a fact. I am 3rd Dan in Shotokan and 1st Dan in Goju Ryu. I actually learned how to defend myself in Goju!

@@USGrant-rr2by me, I'm a traditional Jiu Jitsuka...Pleased to meet you... Just want to say 1 more thing... I'm oppose to all combat sports because the desire to win cause persons to become monsters just to get medals or trophies. Judokas will have permanent knee injuries, most of them... Boxers, Karatekas, and other full contact sports including Football, Soccer, and the like. Listen up ..Strikes to the head will cause a win, but your opponents will develop dementia when older losing control of bladder and bowel, cannot swallow food, and forget his wife and kids... Speaking from experience 1st hand... My dad was an avid boxer all his life and throughout his military career as a cadet a West Point until retirement. Lots of trophies at home, but they don't mean a thing...Not opposed to rendori / kumite, but must be closely supervised by competent and ethical Senseis who care about the lives of his students more than indulging fragile egos, his own and that of students.

@@pichetkullavanijaya6908 I don't participate in tournaments and the people I teach don't either. They learn how to properly defend themselves. But that is their choice. And by the way. When you train to defend yourself you also take punishment. It's part of the process. And no...not everyone becomes a monster. I didn't. I just realized that's not what real karate was ever supposed to be about. They never even had belt ranks until it went to Japan. good luck.

The fact you think you will be getting in a street fight with an mma fighter is comical at best. They dont go around looking for fights on the street. They train in a gym and fight in a cage. Your average street fight is against dummies with block heads that throw only hooks. This "MMA would beat this attitude is getting pretty old. Okinawan karate was not designed for sport or to be pretty. It was designed to protect and to be quick, effective and deadly. Uechi-ryu and Shorin-ryu would be highly effective in a street fight

Real fights don’t move this slow though . If I grab their hand they just don’t stand there , just saying . 🤷🏽‍♂️ Edit : The white pajama Society seems to have been offended by me stating this as a simulation. This video was in my Recommendations . I clicked , so I commented . It is a simulation. They are practicing . If you say otherwise you are lying to yourself. I never said karate itself is a simulation, a show , a dance , prop. In my opinion it depends on the person: person’s sheer will . You guys practice for sport , for fun , for whatever reason. Have you ever seen someone beat to near death , or nearly been beaten to death ? Why I’m telling you the real deal everything goes , happens fast .

Real fighters wouldn't never made this comment because all of them in the beginning were training this slow. Its how your mind acquires knowledge you need to fight full speed.i train boxe since childhood, 4 years in traditional karaté shito ruy and then changed do muy Thai/kickboxing.and i still do some exercises in normal rithm especially if my train partner is a rookie. Never jump steps of the learning processes.even in sparring you must do it with different levels of speed and intensity, from slow to maximum speed, in order to have a proper development.

Yes captain obvious I’m not a fighter like you see those on tv , and I do not train. Real fights people aren’t going let you perform your simulation; wether effective or not , everything happens fast everything goes. Just saying . I can see why you get offended .
