You can remove scratches with Polywatch. Better: put a film of liquid glass for smartphone screens to protect before changing the scales. Tip for the spacer: transperent Loctite Threadlocker 'cause it's removable.

I'm guessing the reason for the replacement screw set is the counter sunk holes stock are beveled where the bottom face meets the g-10, and the replacement screws and the counter sunk holes in plexi glass are counter sunk with flat bases at the bottom of the counter sinking. Can't see for sure but that would make sense. As far as the clip and not flushing on the rear of the knife, it looks like you could use a longer screw in the center of the three holds and screw right across the gap into the other sides pressed in insert without interfering with the blade. Possibly all three screws, but for sure the middle one. Hopefully I didn't make all this sound to confusing. My thoughts don't always type out the way they speak in my head lol :)

the way I separate the scales from the tankard tube is I go out the yard find a piece of wood and taper it into a wedge shape and get another piece of wood slightly smaller than the backspacer then while wedging the scales apart put my square piece of wood in and turn one way or the other and they separate no problem

Thanks for the show & tell, LTK. Well done! All finished up, but you forgot to tell us what it weighs! : - ) . . . . 3.0oz. I love the looks of these. I put them on one of my Blurple S110V knives too. Cuz, I hate Blurple! : - ) . . . Sorry Eric Glesser, if you happen by my thread here. I had the very same issue that you did, at the 16:22 mark in the video. Just one scale side, was a tiny bit tighter for the pivot bushing, than the other side. My lanyard holes did fit perfectly though, and snapped right into position. The lanyard tube can be flared back out a little bit, after assembly. To get the scales to grab the tube better, again. I use a couple of ball bearings. About 5/16" in size. Placing one on each side, and then give it a light squeeze, or a tap with a hammer. On a very solid, non-bouncing surface. I use a small arbor press. As soon as I have a chance. I'm going to add a Ti backspacer. Trying that, for awhile. I use a plastic Bondo spreader, to separate my scales from the liners. It takes time of course. I spin the scales onto one or two of them. They have a taper, and go from about 1/32" on the narrow end, to about 0.1875" on the thick end. They make for a nice soft wedge, and work pretty darn good. Plus, no scratching possible, that way.

Just did mine and love it. Only issue I have with your builds is not using the provided button head screws, because the Lexan counterbore is meant for shouldered screws that he provided, not the countersunk screws that the stock scales are bored for. You're sacrificing some reliability for looks by having less physical contact with each screw head. But I get it.... it's kind of novelty anyway since I'm so careful not to scratch it. :D

I got it now, the sheet with the $229 price was for a Manix with the clear scales assembled, I would say to go the route you did and pay $69 for the scales and $85 or what ever a Manix cost you, about $80 ahead of the game and that way we get to see this entertaining video. I had read where they lock tight their knives but now I know that's not an issue. Thanks!

woptucci the $229 price includes the S110V Manix which runs $159.24. So it is really on like a $5 premium to get it preassembled. I also do a standard S30V version with the conversion scales installed for $189 total.

These are so popular that I hope spyderco does a run hehe. There are plastic polishing compound. Called Poli something. People use for watches. I think if they had some channels for tritium. Wooo that would be amazing Maybe a little clear nail polish on the lanyard tube. Let it dry and just press fit later. Nail polish is reversible I think some hi light marker on the edge could change the look of the clear scales.

Seems almost like a flaw in the original design. I think Spyderco should have been a little easier on the tolerances on the lanyard hole and added a standoff (with screws) just forward of the lanyard hole on the handle. That way taking the knife apart for maintenance or in this case, a change in the scales, would be easier, plus the knife would be more secure and I think it would look better as well. Either that or perhaps make the back pocket clip screw go all the way through so it tightens the back of the knife... Either way would work in my .02... Thinking further on this mod, maybe compensating for the play in the back of the knife is the reason for including the bigger screws provided in the mod kit???

Screws won't go all the way through as threads go different ways. You could do it if you reversed the inserts on one side but then you'd only be able to fit the pocket clip on one side. So maybe they could offer a left or ride sided mounted clip version but probably too much hassles.
