Fun fact: the screamer, JT, does that sing-scream/gritty-singing section himself! He’s also a great singer and does a lot more of that style in their self-titled album. He also does a lot of it in the latest ep by his other hand, Texas in July.

So excited to see you react to Erra! JT is a buddy of mine from high school and one of the nicest dudes I've ever known. Love seeing the group get some more attention!

As a bonus, that vocalist plays the lead guitar AT THE SAME TIME. Insane.

I was front row at one of their shows last year and it was crazy seeing him shred whilst hitting every single note without fail. Jesse is a machine

If you haven't, check out ghost atlas. It's the guitarists side band that showcases his voice more.
@alexhoyt959110 ай бұрын
guitarist here, those harmonics in the breakdown sound like natural harmonics to me (pinch harmonics usually have more of a squeal-y/screamy quality to them as opposed to the more hollow-y sound of a natural harmonic if that makes sense)
@connorburley272910 ай бұрын
I can say with 100% certainty after seeing them play this live that is natural harmonics 🤌
@grapedigger752210 ай бұрын
Yeah plus playing that with pinch harmonics would be very hard haha
@_NotEnoughMana8 ай бұрын
Guitarist here - they are definitely natural harmonics. The first harmonic is on the second fret which causes an "unnatural" harmonic while the second harmonic is a "natural" one on the third fret on a higher string.

I'm glad you mentioned the chorus held notes Jesse does on this one. On a video, he mentioned that he almost thought to make this vocal melody/his voice like another instrument in the mix, instead of his normal soaring notes, and I thought it worked amazingly too.

I always thought that these types of harsh vocals like Erra or For The Fallen Dreams were done through fry screams - but apparently it is more of a false cord mid/high with your voice shining through. Cheers, Mark, for that. I have no idea how to do fry screams, but got some false cord basics already under my belt.

On top of just being an awesome band, ERRA is one of my absolute favorite bands to see live. I've seen them live four times up to this point and they are always so clean and tight live. Super excited for their new album coming this year and to see them again on tour in a couple months!

Hey, brother! Great video. Jesse Cash is Erra's lead vocalist and is one of the greatest in the genre as far as clean vocals are concerned. I don't know if you're familiar with Ghost Atlas..? He's the lead vocalist for that band as well. I urge you to check them out. I'd be interest to see what a polished singer such as yourself would think about them.

Those were natural harmonics actually. Erra loves to throw those into riffs and breakdowns and they create a slightly different sort of jarring feel than pinch harmonics. Check out the songs Snowblood and Electric Twilight for more examples of this
