Kareem has always been one of the most thoughtful, articulate, generous, and gentlemanly voices in American sports AND culture. He speaks with intelligence and authority, and we're lucky to have him. He played for UCLA in a time when college athletes were not yet professionals and took their status as students seriously -- when a college degree meant something, and our universities had not yet become little more than glorified trade schools. When someone like Kareem has something to say, we'd be wise to listen.
