Your response is exactly the problem with Black America. They vote Democrat regardless of the message and accept poor outcomes in their communities. Theyre akin to a person who only eats chicken and beef but refuses to try seafood because it’s different. Black Americans refuse to expand their social and financial palates. That’s the reason they aren’t valued or given opportunities, and viewed as simple minded and lacking sophistication. It’s called being closed minded.

Even as she herself - Candice Owens has said (in so many words): As a youngster, her/my initial rejection "was done by other young Black females simply because I Did Not Fit The: Stereotypical Image Of The Said Black Female". Therefore, although Candice Owens herself is indeed a highly intelligent, respectful and well-spoken young woman; yet, she was ridiculed as a youngster by other young Black females as well as other bigoted young Whites. Candace's message is for conservative white audience. Notice she picked Lauren singing Gospel. At the same age that Lauren was you had The Wu Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, Nas was like 17 or 16 when he started. Candace glosses over that purposely for her messaging. Let's not forget when she was a child 2 Live Crew was a thing. Her message when you look at it from a musical history perspective is incorrect. We've made lewd music for decades. It's pearl clutching to look at rap today and ignore the fact that artists like Lucille Bogan have has sexually explicit lyrics before any of us currently living were born. Before some of our parents and grandparents were born. Candace doesn't know about music. Nor does she care.

I agree with Candace on this particular issue. Maybe, right message, wrong messenger. As for Don's take, it's a definite nah for me. Yes, disagreements between the generations are as old as time, but something different is happening now. Songs with racy or even vulgar lyrics were available as "party' records for adult consumption. They were not played on the radio and certainly not available in the palm of your hand as they are today. Don was practically twisting himself into a pretzel trying to defend what passes for "art" today. We have become desensitized to disgusting behavior. If we follow that logic, what's next? Sex on stage? One on one? Orgies? We are in a race to the bottom. Music isn't the only cause, but it is contributing to the coursening of the culture. The impact is felt across the community. If you doubt it, just talk to our classroom teachers. They are leaving in droves.

The popular black music artists of today, are more hustlers than artists. They promote a kind of musical hot take, not much art is involved. Now Candace Ownes is saying something here. She is referencing Lauren Hill, and true heart felt black music that she grew up on. However, none of those artists would agree with her on anything because those artists are rooted in blackness. This Breakfast club audience, is all over the map culturally and politically. She knows that and her party knows that. So even though she thinks the Ice Spice`s of the world are the downfall of the culture. They are indeed the simpletons, that she and her party can convert.

Then we see her coming to the Superbowl with Taylor Swift and I have to wonder who feeding us this. Name me an Ice Spice song. I only know about her being naked on stage. Sadly thats all I get from a majority of these new artists.

Broken clock right twice per day- what do I do with broken clocks? Throw them in the trash and get a clock that tells the right time all the time! I have no interest in Candace and anything she says - even if I happen to agree with something she says. The point she is making is not novel in any way whatsoever- black people who truly love black people authentically make this point all the time! So, eff Candace forever plus one day! As far as the point that we have let our culture, self respect and self image slip in ways that show up in entertainment, yes, I agree and we should be pushing back on all fronts against it! But not with Candace (in case I wasn’t clear)! 😂

You simply cannot separate the message from the messenger....especially when it comes from grifters. Two people can say the exact same words from opposite political ideologies and they mean different things. One statement does not represent a shift.

I agree with Brother Don. We have short memories. There was legislation on the table, talk shows, and political debates around the violent and sexual content in rap. We are offended by the description of genitalia when rappers were bragging about running trains on unsuspecting Black women in the 80s. Historical context matters. We can easily go back and read the lyrics of Clara Smith, Alberta Hunter (You can’t tell the difference after dark), Lucille Bogan (Shave ‘Em Dry), etc all scandalous at the time. Blues and jazz was used to criminalize and morally deject a whole generation of young Black folks. Grifters like Candace use low hanging fruit to get Black folks on their side.

Candace Owens is right sometimes and this is one of those times. That all being said, she is more wrong then right due to her being blindly loyal the Republican Party and to far Right conservative ideology. And for the record, my opinion of her would still be the same if she was a liberal Democrat who was blindly loyal to the Democratic Party and far Left liberal ideology.

This may be an unpopular opinion based on the comments that I have read. This conversation was very frustrating because I understood the direction that Ms. Hunter was going in and Mr. Calloway was not in a head space to understand because of who the messenger, Candace Owens, is. I was born in 1973 so I have watched the evolution of Hip Hop in real time. I believe the issue is that if older black people from that genre say Ice Spice, Glorilla, and Sexy Red are debaucherous, then that would also mean that Dr. Dre, Too Short, Lil' Kim, NWA, Geto Boys, 2 Live Crew, Biggie, (you get it), are also debaucherous. Let's be clear and not in our feelings about this, the lyrical content IS NOT good for black society. The prophet, C. Delores Tucker, tried to warn our parents of our future if they allowed us to keep listening to the lyrical content that was being produced. My generation, me included, said sit your old a$$ down, you don't know what you're talking about. But here we are. We have to admit that there was a golden age of Hip Hop, pre 2 Live Crew, that was a beautiful mix of party, revolutionary, warning, neighborhood recognition and beef, and real-life story telling as cautionary tales. Post 2 Live Crew we end up here. The problem is that we don't want to accept our part in where music is right now because we funded the whole machine. I can't tell you how many times my male elders would say how can you dance to music where they are calling women "b1t3hes" and I would say they ain't talking about me. I have 13 grandchildren and I get sick to my stomach at the things that are available as music now. We now have a genre of demonic rap. If you don't believe me, look at and listen to Playboi Carti. Let's be clear, the beats today are fire, pure fire! They always are, that's how we get trapped. We can't let a song go because the beat makes our body feel a certain way, meanwhile our brain is being corrupted by a lyrical genocide. If we can't get past our feelings on this small issue of music, we will NEVER be able to tackle the real bigger issues. Black people are not a monolith and we never have been so I understand that this subject will never really get fully resolved. Mr. Calloway, respectfully, get out of your feelings and be open to having a real conversation about where we, our children and grandchildren, are going mentally. I would love to actually see Ms. Hunter and Mrs. Owens have a sit-down conversation. I believe it would be brilliant and beneficial. Our elders knew how to sit down and have healthy debate. It feels like a lost art now because we have made blackness ALMOST occultic now. Peace and blessings, keep doing what you are doing Ms. Hunter.

Thomas Sowell books are all amazing as trying to hear all sides, Douglas Murray books understands the dynamics also. GenX here its hard for anyone to have a discussion, debate or critical thinking here. An with our Enemies sorry don't want to live as North Korea or China rule and next-generation will lay it at the prideful feet for not finding solutions and putting them into action. Just my opinion matters not whether read or used in stepping back and looking at the whole picture. Who's game are we playing and what is their end goal. Either way absolutely ever American won't like the goal they have planned for us. We will all have to live where ever the chips will fall.

I disagree. Delores Tucker absolutely believed that gangsta rap was a fiction created by white men though marketed by and to black people, especially in black men. That's why she and Melba Moore and another black woman bought stock in the white music industry just to sit at the table to effect policy. Owens just wants to shit on black folks. As a supporter of Tucker, pls don't put Owens in the same category as Tucker. She doesn't compare. Dionne Warwick was the other black woman.

I agree with the brother to an extent, except whose culture is it in which the youth and the elders are always attacking each other? It is in fact a norm specific to a particular cultural heritage. And rap started with the youth because it was a resurgence and regained appreciation for our continuous struggle, after a series of blows that left their parents and grandparents' generation reeling. After all, those kids learned that revolutionary spirit from somewhere and someone.
