My wife and I own a successful Airbnb. Before we even started I made sure to study the market. I watched endless videos of other successful host and what their properties looked like, what products they used, what they did on a daily basis and I implemented similar techniques. I knew in order to succeed I had to stand out from the crowds. We have gone above and beyond by offering different add on packages such as anniversary packages, massages on site etc that others do not offer to provide an actual memorable experience. A long with this, we are working towards creating a brand. I have always had a passion for interior design and an entrepreneurial spirit as far as I can remember from my childhood from selling candy at school to creating my own carpet cleaner product lmao. I feel that everyday you should try to be better than the day before and try to always keep learning and keep growing in every aspect of your life in order to be successful and live a fulfilled life. You are truly an inspiration and role model and thank you so much for letting us be part of your amazing journey to success! The horizon is bright for you! :)

I remember one of the biggest challenges I had with my business was learning to let go and delegate. The moment when I started actually letting go of the things that were completely pointless for me to do and delegating it for someone else was a game-changer.

Your last two videos were some of the best yet. I loved being involved in the client meeting and hearing some of that dialogue. Super helpful. And it's great to see your team grow. Your videos are so inspirational and full of positive energy. I really appreciate what you are doing as an influencer for the design community. I recently started my own construction/design business and it's incredibly helpful and inspiring to hear your perspective on being an entrepreneur. I'm on that roller coaster and it's so hard, but watching your videos helps a lot! 🙏🖤

I have just finished my Interior Design Degree with a Bachelor of Arts in Germany. It took me a while to get here (I'm 28) and I am constantly worrying about wether I'll be able to reach my ultimate goal of having an Interior Design Business like yours anytime soon. The Interior Design world is very limited to a specific style here in Germany (Bauhaus, modern, minimal) which is not at all my style or personality. So in order to grow I plan on gaining work experience elsewhere, preferably outisde of Europe. I am looking at moving to Autralia or Canada actually :) And yesterday I have decided to start an Interior Design blog to fill the time until I have a plan and enough financial security to go after the move. I want to thank you so much for the work you are doing on here. I remember searching KZbin for Inspiration and examples of how Design Businesses are lead and never finding anything substantial. You have been my ultimate Inspiration since I found your channel and I have watched every single video of yours. Knowing that you have reached your goals the way you did gives me a boost of confidence in knowing that it is possible for me as well. Thank you so much and all the best ❤

For me, Karin, you were the complete and sole source that has driven me to find Interior Design as a profession that I want to enter headfirst and hands on. For my personal steps, I am currently self-teaching myself SketchUp & Revit, and begin my Interior Design courses in the Fall before transferring to my CIDA accredited university the following year. I will obtain an Associate of Applied Sciences in Interior Design Technologies in Spring of 2019, then transferring for a Bachelors of Science in Interior Architecture (hopefully will obtain in Spring of 2022). PLEASE keep making your videos. When I get stumped and don't know which direction to look towards next, you motivate me to keep pushing and keep moving further into the program I LOVE. I know that I will continue watching your videos even after my licensure and accreditation standards are met. Thank you so much!

In my life, I'm starting to figure out that as a small interior design business owner who is self taught although I'm starting as a decorator, I ultimately want to be a creative director of the business and lead the team, I want to create opportunities for amazing interior designers with a focus on luxury sustainbility. Watching your videos and seeing the different roles in person helps me to really organize my vision, and inspires me daily. Thank You.

Well Karin, to grow, I’m going in the opposite direction, admitting I’m happiest as an introvert, and although I’m still continuing being a senior kitchen and bath designer, I’m learning trading and investing bc working for someone’s else won’t make me truly wealthy. And being introverted, I don’t want to be a business owner or deal with clients and crew. This business is has too much people interaction for me. I can see myself being a very successful trader, investor, part of which would be renovating and selling homes (not fast flipping) or even being a real estate developer.

Congrats and I love watching your videos! I even binge-watched they a few weeks ago when I first found your channel. 💁🏾‍♀️ To answer your question, I just came back from vacation (refreshed and revitalized) about what I’m doing right now. I made the decision, and started today, of busting my a** and getting ahead in my day job so that and can put more energy into creating and my photography like I wanted. I think it’s so easy to lose focus on your big goals and dreams during the daily grind if you don’t set small goals. Putting pen to paper (really my Passion Planner) everyday making small and mostly measurable goals to change that. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! 🙌🏾

I am every now and then doing things for one month to push myself out of my comfort zone, evolve and try something new: in november I went gluten-free for a month, in february I did yoga everyday and now in may I went plant-based. After the strict month I try to continue a bit less strict and incorporate what I learned, for example switched out products into my normal diet.

You featured my comment! Yeay! I feel special! :DDD About pushing yourself to grow. That's reaaaally hard I think. One thing I find works is forcing yourself to objectively look at people you look up to. They might seem like giants, but more often than not, they are mere mortals just like you and if you apply yourself, you can do the same "magic" they do or even exceed that. And about letting the wrong people go. You have to do it ASAP. Also the fact that they are wrong for you or your business doesn't mean they are bad people. Whenever I had to fire someone I absolutely made sure they knew that. I also tried to point out why they didn't mix with the team and also point out their strong suits. Letting someone go in a way that doesn't cause extra pain is vital for everyone I think.

Came across this chanel a couple of days ago. So excited to finally find somebody that talks about what really goes down in this industry . Currently working in a company that designs exhibition booths/stands and office interiors. My major is in Interior Architecture and my masters is in Product Design. I'm trying to gain more clients and take my freelance work to the next level and start to become more independent. I lived abroad for a while to finish my studies and made the decision to return home, in Greece and make it work. It's been really tough, a lot of ups and downs but trying to always have a motive and aim high. It's definitely not easy but listening to people that you can relate to and see their progress can only make you want to work harder. I think you have done an amazing job!!

I grow by trying new things and after a certain period of applying them (2 weeks for instance), I try to see the changes, reflect on them and adjust myself and what I need to pursue later on based on the results. So it is s constant action of trying, applying and checking. This has helped me tons with both my personal and professional life. 😊

Can you answer how you navigated personal relationships with others and yourself while growing/starting your business? Like what type of people did you surround yourself with, who you didn't, and aspects of yourself you had to grow out of in order to become successful. Thank you for your content! You are inspiring. To grow: I am currently back in school getting my MA in Interior Architecture, and taking my spirituality and relationship with God seriously.

Congratulations on the expansion of the HOB team! Welcome to the team Kelsey! Kristin, Corina, Stacy, Diane, Kristy - You are Absolutely Fabulous! Love seeing your collective teamwork in producing awesome projects. Growing Pains is certainly a perfect description of a business and growth of a business takes years, it requires time. It needs evaluation and it never ends, it really is about the process and journey towards an ever-changing destination. Having the resilence to keep going no matter what happens is so important and something each of us needs to achieve anything we have set our mind to.

ive been making sure to make more time to really flex my creativity when it comes to design especially while being a design student some of the assignments can be too strict and when your working full time and going to school full time its hard to find time to actually be creative even if your major is a creative one by nature. Also spending more time mapping out my goals and the things I want to accomplish and really thinking about my goals and why I want to achieve them.. Love the videos as always

Congrats to Kelsey on becoming the new project coordinator, and as a piece of advice. Kelsey I strongly suggest you have a look at Microsoft Project software and the Pluralsight website, which has a great tutorial on the use of this software for project management. To your question about what am I doing to grow, I must confess that for years I wasn't...I was just treading water and not feeling very inspired. However, I'm happy to share that in the last 2 months I have made significant strides by 1)leaving a role that was not a good fit for me and 2)enrolling in an Interior Design program so that I can get my certification and start a new/2nd career! Hooray for new beginnings and thank you for continuing to share your thoughts on business, design and style!

Hey Karin! I stumbled upon you a few months back. You are fabulous btw!!! I am trying to grow in my career for interior design by saving money for a school I want to go to. They are privately funded in Portland, OR and I have to find a way to do it financially on my own. I just graduated with two associate degrees this Spring as well. So now I want to focus on interior design! I have been cold calling design firms in Vancouver, WA & Portland, OR to see if they need any entry level admin help to get my foot in the door. No bites yet, but a lot of good feedback that what I’m doing is a step in the right direction!

Thank you so much for bringing the topic of growing pains for interior design. I'm from the UK, and recently been made redundant from a Junior Interior Designer role from a fairly new business. I feel my complete lack of CAD expertise from the diploma I took may have contributed to the decision somehow. Since then I've felt unsure whether I should be doing interior design as a career, given I'm now 30 and feel that I'm not going anywhere. However, you have reminded me that I need to push myself more to get what I want out of this industry, and embrace my failures rather than fall victim to them. What would you suggest is a great pick-me-up to combat self-doubt of someone's abilities, or in my case, the lack of with CAD knowledge? Sorry for the long ramble 😁

How am I pushing myself? I started off graduating with a law degree realised I had pursued the wrong path and went back into university. I have now completed my first (out of the 3) year of Fine Art course. This summer break I am reaching out to places to do work experience with them in their interior design business. I will let you know when someone gives me a chance. I was advised to just go for it and advertise for simple interior styling job for someone... but without any real hands on experience before .... I am faced with feelings of guilt if it goes wrong and I won't manage to do it as well as the client would have wanted.

Markiza Wow, way to go. That's tough but I love that you're being fearless & going for it! Follow your heart! Exciting & nerve-wracking. I'd love to hear how that job search goes and what position that actually is because it sounds similar to what I'd like to do with no experience. Best to you!💓

Hi I really love to your video and getting more knowledge about Interior Design. I want to be Interior Designer but I don’t have a any Interior Design background. I have to pay bill but I don’t want to do something is not relate to the career. Even I go to school what kind of career helps to be Inferior Designer? Cuz most of the career in states say experiencing in 1 year as Interior Design even in the Entry level. Do you think it’s also important to learn marking as well? I hope if you can or anyone reply my massage that would be wonderful.

This woman has a lot of fun playing “adult” with her career, her persona, her environment. She really loves the life she lives. She feels important. Life is a 🎮 video game. Play it the way you want. Personally I don’t take life this seriously
