what i've learned about cameras after searching months for a new one is that it doesn't matter how fancy a camera is or however many megapixels it has (anything over 12 is not needed unless you're shooting for a billboard or something huge). I was hesitant to buy a 5d classic because it's not as tech savvy as the others. after seeing what i can do with full frame for portrait photography i figured above all, it's the photographer that dictates how well of a picture a camera takes.

Always a pleasure hearing your pro verdicts Karl I recentl bought a 7D I wanted to own one for ages but I didn't really get on with it I found it a bit to clever for its own good so I traded it in for a 5DMk 2 I always wanted to move up to full frame but never quite found a bargain until this one came along its in mint cond still had the protective plastic on the screens only done 14-000 shots and I love it !!! the picture quality is awesome and I would never drop back to a crop sensor model again as we are getting into weddings we are gonna get a couple of Mk 3s next year but for now im over the moon with the 5DMk 2 my advice to anyone is go full frame you wont regret it !!!

Mike Lee but 7d can go 8fps and 5dmk2 can only do 4 is that a big factor because I’m also considering about which camera to buy

Thanks for the great overview! I am retiring my Canon 20D and decided to upgrade. The choice is what was holding me back. EBay is a great place to shop for deals. So I decided to buy both a 5D Mark II and a 7D. For under $700 USD I got a Mark II AND a 7D. Both used but in great shape! Shutter count on both was rasonably low... 5D Mk II (49K shutter count) - 7D (5700 Shutter Count) I will use the 7D with Dragonframe for stop motion animation and the 5D Mark II as my main work horse. Both cameras have live view capability and deliver great video capabilities. Both have large view screens and the beauty of it is that all of my current Canon lenses carry over to the new bodies! If anyone is looking to upgrade to a newer camera, now is the time to look at EBay, the prices on these bodies is coming down to more affordable levels.

I own both the 7D and a 5Dmii. I use the 7D for sports/fast wildlife/all action shots and the 5D for pretty much everything else. I find the 5D to have better image quality, especially as the ISO goes up. I like that the 7D and 5Dmii combo because it gets the best of the features I need, they complement each other very nicely, and serve as backup cameras to each other. All this for essentially the price of 1 5Dmiii body.

I'm a long-time user of the 7D, and I managed to pick up a 5Dmk2 for a bargain recently. I've more or less completely switched to it, but a couple of things not mentioned in the video are worth noting for anyone looking at getting either second-hand: the 5Dmk2's autofocus is noticeably slower and less accurate than the 7D's, and while Canon gave the 7D the capacity to use auto ISO in full manual mode in a firmware update, the 5DmkII got no love, so that's worth noting if you shoot that way.

Two things you missed is that the 7D pop up flash can send a signal to an external speed-light. This I like, no need for wireless transmitters if the shot isn't to complex. The other bit you missed about the 7d is its build quality.

Great design and build is timeless. I bought a used 7D. I want later a 5D mk.2 later. I am a Sony and Canon shooter. Glad I found your channel. Love that you are not a pixel peeper. I could care less about the gimmicks. I like the additional flexibility in the focus engine, but I won't lose too much sleep over it. I mostly got the 7D as my distance shooter taking advantage of the 1.6 crop APS-C sensor. The numbers versus what I want to do seldom come into the play. How I live with the system day to day matters much to me. I am done with the "Plastic" fantastic consumer types. Unless something on that side is compelling. So for airshows and auto racing I am looking at the 7D as my shooter. I have shot with Nikon, Canon, Panasonic, Pentax, Sony, Olympus before someone thinks I am just a Canon fanboy. I have landed on the Sony and Canon systems because of what I do on a reality basis versus the latest and greatest flavor of the week on KZbin.

a good vid rly for those who have never had a chance to work wid those cameras. Theres one big thing tho, when 5Dmk2 is compared with 7D - one of the most important things why I choose to work with 7D on the field is focus capabilities. I mean anyone who tried to do reportage photography with 5Dmk2 and 7D will know the difference between those 2, how did they screw up so bad with 5Dmk2 focus system.But till 5Dmk3 came there has never been a better dslr for studio work and ofcorse - full frame...

Ideally, a professional should have at least 2 cameras - one of which is a backup in case the main goes belly up during a shoot. This is vitally important for some, especially wedding photographers.

It depend what you want to do with your camera ,full frame sensors is similar to VistaVision 35 mm horizontal camera film frame introduced in 1952 by paramount and used in few movies and stopped but the academy ratio is widely used for decades in movies in hollywood 7D have aps-c sensor 22.3 ×14.9mm and academy 35 mm is 22×16mm you can see the similarity if you want the classical movie size 7D is your camera

The 5d mark ii you claim has better resolution, and while it has more megapixels than the 7D, if you crop the image to the same size as the APS-C sensor, the 5d mark ii becomes closer to a 14 MegaPixel camera, so if standing in the same spot, won't the 7D have better resolution?

@davidbolton962912 жыл бұрын
Yes but 99.999 % of the time when a camera's ISO expands further, it also performs better at lower ISO's, the 5D mark ii performs perfectly clean up to 3200 ISO and 6400 is fixable in lightroom, also the full frame sensor in the 5D2 means the pixels aren't squashed onto a cropped sensor which also means for much better ISO performance, the 7D is insanely noisy at 1600 ISO +, I agree that pros shouldn't and don't really go over 3200 anyway though.
