This is a staggering view into the scale of the Homeworld universe when you consider the raw size of something like the Khar-Selim and the incomprehensibly large derelicts in the background of the Karos Graveyard mission. The Homeworld galaxy is wonderfully ancient and vast; ripe for the Homeworld 3 pickings.

4:00 gotta be my favorite ship in the game because it was probably the front line capital ship of the Hiigaran navy during the first war with the Tidan, such iconic ships forgotten, left to drift in space for thousands of years until the hiigarans finally found them again in the Karos graveyard, I kinda wish they would let us salvage one of these and use it in our fleet
@ThinBear4 Жыл бұрын
Most likely there would be no point whatsoever in salvaging those. These wrecks are ancient, and by the time the game's campaign is taking place, they are heaps of rust and scrap metal, falling apart over centuries of drifting there, and there's nothing left to restore. Even if there was an actual functional ship there, or one that's possible to reverse-engineer and fabricate anew, those ships are probably horrendously outdated. That heavy cruiser at 4:00 likely doesn't have ion cannons, and its numerous kinetic guns won't even put a dent in the armor of current capital ships. This is probably an equivalent of a world war 1 era tank being compared to something like an M1 Abrams.
@KRaikkonenSF3 жыл бұрын
Seriously I think a few of those designs were actually earlier concepts for the ships that ended up being introduced, so they introduced those slightly different concepts as wrecks in the graveyard :)
@KimPossibleShockwave3 жыл бұрын
They were: They Kushan-style ones were the alpha/beta models either given a rusty re-texture or just dumped just out of bounds of the map as an Easter egg. Realistically, I could see them scanning the derelicts, going, "huh, this would make a nice light cruiser or carrier" or go "these ancient derelicts have superior XX e.g. targeting or guns. We advise commencing research on reverse-engineering them for our own ships" or something.
@beeb58722 жыл бұрын
@@KimPossibleShockwave I think these kushan-esque derelicts are ancient hiigaran ships, they share such heavy similarities between the kushan ships, and the heavy triple turrets bear the same shape as the hiigaran battlecruiser's ion cannons, just with barrels. I'd like to think that these are hiigaran ships that, after their loss, were shipbroken and dumped here. correction: ion cannons of the kushan heavy cruiser, not the hiigaran battlecruiser.
@shadekerensky36912 жыл бұрын
@@KimPossibleShockwave A light battlecarrier would have been nice to salvage from the junkyard, where you could only build strike craft BUT you had similar weapons to a Destroyer.
@KimPossibleShockwave2 жыл бұрын
@@beeb5872 Yeah. :) I mean, realistically the kushan would have "X-Commed" everything and anything they came across: We only see "light" touches of that in the campaign. Turanic Raider ion frigates? They would have made copies, even if they would've been inferior to taiidani designs until they acquired better technology from stealing said taiidani frigates or buying it from the bentusi. Missile Corvettes? Yoink! Probably a disposable module for the Light Corvette, or something, to make it more useful after you research Heavy Corvettes. Kadeshi swarmers? "They have better fuel systems than us. We can use those for our fighters. Yoink!" Oh man, imagine the multi-beam frigates? "Not only can we now reproduce the weapons systems of these ships, we can improve the capabilities of our older ion frigate designs." All in all, you'd have Karos Graveyard light cruisers with the heavy ion cannons of a heavy cruiser, and the later heavy cruiser to have the ion cannons of a Somtaaw dreadnought or a hiigaran battlecruiser!
@michaelhandy40182 жыл бұрын
@@KimPossibleShockwave I think given they would have had examples or records of the Higarran ships from the Khar-Toba Excavation and that their technology was largely scavenged from the shipwrecks they just needed to fill in the tech gaps and use ship designs that they had already studied and that were compatible with their production.

I think I might be alone in this, but the millenia old ships looking almost identical to the modern Kushan ships is kinda weird. Like they had to start over from scratch texhnologically, for the most part. Or did the Khar-Toba have a design schematic archive aboard that they modernized?

I recall that I was able to activate the derelicts, this in the original game... somehow the remastered version seems to lack the option to activate the derelicts, I was able to activate them by attacking them repeatedly, at one point they would start counterattacking, the remastered version seems to have skiped the option, and that takes away a good chunk of the fun and strategy, the power that one gained by capturing some derelicts.... one was able to put most of the fleet in derelict mode when the ships were outside of sensor range or was it just line of sight, I cant recall, one was able to capture some cool tech like a derelict repair bay and other gizmos like motion detectors, for some reason they removed this from the remastered, or I may be wrong an the option may still be in there, I actually spent some good time trying to do the activation thing, so to capture the so mentioned derelicts... but nothing interesting came from the effort... because of this ... original home world may be superior to later versions... yet it had a few bugs that would brake the game
@gayggles56354 жыл бұрын
I remember while playing through the level in the remastered version my fleet would sometimes attack the carriers and heavy cruisers for no reason. First time I noticed them they all had health bars but they didn't do anything even when your fleet would attack. You couldn't even tell your fleet to attack them they just would after or during fighting an autogun (though when they attacked afterwards it was for less than a minute). I had them all on aggressive so that might be why but after the auto gun was destroyed they'd just ignore them afterwards. I even tried to salvage some but it didn't work.
