The touts are so aggressive there. I was there with my family last year in March and they managed to scam 13,000 Rupees out of us for some worthless sledge ride that we never needed. They claimed that the main ski area is very far and snow is too deep so you can't walk by yourself. We didn't know better as we hadn't there before and apparently the taxi driver was friends of the touts and suggested us to use their service. They kept harassing us and following us everywhere that we gave in. Felt so horrible after the poor sledge ride and spending a fortune on that, plus felt guilty having those old guys pull us on the sledge. It completely ruined our experience of Gulmarg and despite the beautiful nature, we said we're never gonna visit this place again.

I went to Gulmarg ten years back. I bought the tickets from the airport, but unfortunately the gondola was not operating that day due to an issue. So we had to rent a Horse (a pony)..and it was limping due to some issue with its leg, we felt so bad, so we walked up to the first stop and down our selves.

August 1975 was my visit to Gulmarg by bus. No gondolas that I can recall and I don't remember horses but I imagine that they would have been there. I certainly remember a tout carrying two heavy backpacks up the mountain path through those magnificent trees and we stayed in an old wooden ex palace. I also recall not seeing any mountain views because it started raining. It's wonderful that after fifty years I can reflect on that journey through India overland to Australia from Holland in the days when it was relatively safe to do so. Thank you.

Just to let people know, prepaid mobile phones 📱 do not work in the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir because of security reasons. Hence why Gabriel’s phone did not work there because it is pre-paid, as he has a contract with T-Mobile. Generally mobile phones that have SIM cards bought in the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir work because they can be traceable for security reasons, due to the history of Islamic terrorism taking place in the Kashmir Valley and neighbouring Poonch and Rajouri areas.

Mosquitoes aren't very common in India, especially in the cities. I recommend bringing a bottle of mosquito repellent, I have one. You wouldn't be able to string up a net in most places and it won't be necessary anyway, unless you head for the jungle somewhere. I've seen only a couple mosquitoes in the past month and haven't been bitten at all. You might encounter them more in the south.

Of course if you are a tourist, you’re more likely to stay at a hotel or hostel than at an Indian person’s house, where the hotel or hostel makes damn sure that there are no mosquitoes 🦟 around. @@quackersna in this case you would need to find a stable that allows cantering and trotting. Gabe is kinda like a big kid, so it was suitable for him, and it looked funny 😊

Great video. I've been to India many times but never this area. Your video certainly put me off, though. The area seemed a bit of a dump? Love the Himalayas and being in the mountains but just dont see the point of these rundown peripheral areas, stuffed with touts touting not very good attractions. There are far better places to be. Maybe just me! Have fun.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos India have more languages than EU. In our movies directors shows your nations only positive sides whether they are culture or estate but you western come to India to see and filming India's dirt, dusty parts, roaming in red light areas, slums and shattered closed areas...BBC, CNBC, CNN etc whole your media is filled with this mentality. You went to Srinagar but why didn't went to Laal chowk, Mughul garden, Indian govt started Kashmir train you didn't film them. This is the mentality of your western thats why Chinese, and some middle east people hate westerns...

You'll need to upgrade your camera to a 4k...you're footage doesn't really show the beauty of this place. I watched Vlogging a Dead Horse 4k footage and it really shows the beauty of this place. You're camera doesn't really show the true colors and it's a bit grainy.
