no it's not! goju karate evolved from naha-te.. chatan yara kushanku and all the kosokun dai/kanku dai variants evolved from shuri-te. This version is Shito Ryu

Chatanyara Kushanku comes under Shito Ryu as far as WKF rules go, although other styles have it as well. The Wado version of Kushanku is very different (it's actually a lot more like kankudai).

I think this Kata is ( kanku dai + kanku sho)/2 in SHOTOKAN, this has several elements of both katas. I Guess chatanyara kushanku is older than kanku dai or sho, what do You think?

For the tournament scene this was a great kata. And I can see why she won. But it is sport karate, point blank. Looks good, sounds good, but too many technical "fouls."

Hard to say. Depends on her understanding of the kata and strategy of fighting. I personally wasn't "feeling" the power in the kata. Yes it was fast and snappy but does it have substance? I would say no, others would probably disagree. One thing I will say Chuck, is not to judge a karate man based on their size. A good one could defeat you regardless of that. Key word a good one, which is hard to find nowadays.

All due respect, this is not Pinan/Heian Yondan. You may see simlar moves, but that is because the Pinan/Heian series all stem from the Kusanku series.

This is *very* much Chatanyara Kusanku. the Pinan/Heian kata were developed from the Kosokun/Kusanku/Kanku kata series and are considered to be the building blocks for students to eventually learn this kata, developed by Master Itosu.
