I still don't understand why the create entirely new filler episodes instead of just animating the cover pages as filler episodes tbh. Sure some only consist of a handfull of pages, but why not spend your creative juices you used to create the filler episode to instead pad out those cover stories? I'm just saying! The Gang bege oh my family could've easily been adopted into 2 or 3 episodes and it would've brought us back Lola as well! It would've loved to see the stories of the self-proclaimed Straw Hat Grand Fleet fully animated. Every episode focusing on a different crew I mean, look at the straw hat seperation arc. 16 cover stories filled 8 episodes! And they were honestly pretty good! I didn't even know they were mostly filler, padded out cover stories.

I think the entire derpy thing is the way it's meant to be. Readers want cool looking swords when Oda is basically saying when a sword eats a fruit it gains the characteristics of said fruit, thus making it wierd. Like The CP9 gundams Elephant Sword... That thing is basically an elephant within a sword and a sword based off an elephant would not be cool like.

And Luffy's ability to understand Shushu could also be due to his 'voice of all things' ability

Also as much as it's a non-canon arc, Luffy was able to understand the dragon Ryuji in the pre-Grand-Line filler arc. Which suggests either Oda input, or the creators of the filler had already noticed something about Luffy that wasnt confirmed until much later.

Until a certain manga chapter I was unironically convinced that Noland went all the way to the final island on one of his voyages. He was a total badass who sailed the Grand Line in an age that didnt have a mythical treasure to lure people out, and sailed it like 4 times. When we found out he got at least as far as Dressrosa I was convinced he must have been the Roger of his day, proudly stating "The city of gold exists!" on the execution platform so that others would sail the Grand Line after him, just like Roger and Whitebeard did with the One Piece. I think it's still a possibility.
