1978 is the year of her first album which is magnificent. She was 19 years old.

Kate Bush is the first female artist to write and perform a number 1 UK single with this single. It's pretty sad it took until 1978 but she's a genius.

Wuthering heights is a Ghost Story written by Emily Bronte back in 1847. Kate Bush adapted it into a song. Get the lyrics and follow along with the song. It will give it some context for you. Kate Bush wrote this song when she was 19. David Gilmore from Pink Floyd helped her get the song produced.

Thank you for the insight! You're right, Wuthering Heights is a haunting and powerful novel by Emily Brontë, and Kate Bush's adaptation into a song is equally captivating. The lyrics certainly bring out the ghostly elements of the story, and it's fascinating that she was only 19 when she wrote it. We'll make sure to look up the lyrics to get a deeper understanding of the song's context next time. Thanks again for sharing that!

Kate is portraying the ghost of a young woman coming back to haunt her former lover. It is based off the classic novel "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte. Kate is one of the most theatrical artists that has ever existed and almost always sings/performs in character. On her first several albums she often sang in a very high register, but heighted it even more on this piece as Cathy is a specter at this point in the story. I would urge you to keep exploring Kate's work. She is not for everyone, but each song is a well crafted story and each composition is brilliant.

Thank you for the insightful explanation! It’s fascinating to learn how Kate Bush channels the ghostly essence of Cathy from Wuthering Heights in such a captivating way. Her approach to storytelling and performance is truly unique. We’ll definitely continue exploring her work-her creativity is something special!

Wuthering Heights is arguably one of the most brilliant books ever written in the English language. It's fundamentally about revenge - this song is about the ghost of Cathy begging to be let into the house of her love, Heathcliff.

Kate Bush was able to do this song in one take! Masterfully controlling her voice... But 8 years later (1986), she re-recorded this song an octave lower (deliberate decision!)...

@@vp8reacts Or even better "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)"... This song took 37 years to go to #1 of the UK charts (from August 1985 to summer 2022), after it was used in the show "Stranger Things IV". At that point, Kate Bush was the youngest ("Wuthering Heights", 1978, 19yo) and oldest ("Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)", 2022, 63yo), surpassing Cher's "Believe" from 1998, female solo artist to top the UK charts, while also having the song that took the longest time to get there (37 years). Three remarkable Guinness Book records at the same time. Introduced to the "Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame" in 2023...
