@@jeffhermance4886 bruh. Of course all people share experiences of pain, nobody’s arguing that. But its very clear this song is about the struggles of being black in america. It’s also about more than that of course, but this is a song that expresses black folk experiences explicitly. Crazy how a black man can make a song about being black in america and people will still try to find a way to erase black people from the picture

Kathryn, you were jammin until you were hit by and felt the emotionally profound punch of his lyrics. What you heard was a snippet of black and poor people's lives, struggling to survive in this society. It was all beautifully wrapped up in Bruce Hornsby's music, now isn't that ironic. It sucks the air out of the room and leaves you almost speechless. 2Pac is legendary.

So, you should def do more Tupac songs. As you get into Tupac, there is a few songs that should absolutely be the first ones: Keep Ya Head up I Aint Mad at Cha Dear Mama Brenda's Got a Baby Those above are some of the most powerful Tupac songs as far as the meaning behind the songs and the message. Some reactors make the mistake of reacting to "Hit Em Up" first, which is a great diss track, probably the best one ever. However, it really taints the perception you will have of Tupac going forward. Tupac was a guy with a lot of different aspects to his personality. Really fascinating to hear him speak in interviews and then go listen to some of his more hard tracks and wonder how is this the same person.

There is a lot to process when listening to Tupac. For a long time I had no idea who Huey was. Later I found that was referring to Huey Newton from the Black Panther Party. I love how raw, sincere, and uncensured your reactions have been. Thank you for this. I would recommend some Tupac songs, but my list would be so long. I wouldn't know where to stop. @dmgranger90
@dmgranger90 Жыл бұрын
Every single piece of this song hits harder than most people know and contains more truth than people want to hear. I will be glad to give a little insight of the history of the lyrics. The line "First, ship in dope and let 'em deal to brothas, give them guns, step back and watch them kill each other." Is a reference to the Iran Contra Affair and the CIA working with Nicaraguan cartel leaders to ship drugs into inner city neighborhoods that were majority black to cause panic on national tv, change political powers by changing social perspective, and completely stifle the progress of black people as a race in America by, not only flooding the inner (usually Democratic) city streets in predominantly black neighborhoods, but simultaneously starting the "War on Drugs", which has led to the mass incarceration of African American populations and minorities in the prison system. The line "It's time to fight back, that's what Huey said, Two shots in the dark, now Huey's dead." Is a reference to the civil rights leader Huey P Newton who formed the Black Panther Party and later was assassinated. The Black Panther Party, apart from being a civil rights group, was known for arming themselves to protect their neighborhoods from drugs flooding in, crime, and themselves from excessive police force of the predominately white Oakland police. The two shots is a reference to his assassination. They charged a member of the Black Guerilla Family for his death, allegedly so that he could move onto turf BPP protected areas and establish a crack empire. ...But there's always been speculation that the FBI was involved in his death, since they've been found to have been involved in the deaths of other major figures in the Black Panther Party. That's just the beginning of the song, there's so much more to this one and many more of his other songs. 2Pac was a poet. He brought light to the everyday struggles that minorities faced that were generational ,while also bringing to light the fact that the reason for the generational struggles was because of a decades long effort by the US government to ensure white supremacy within the core of the country and top of the power structure; the government itself. There's a great sight called Genius that breaks down a bunch of the lyrics and gives history and/or context behind them. They might not catch everything because some his lyrics are so deep, but it really helps show the depth of these lyrics and makes them sink in so much further when you hear them. I hope you check the sight out if you find some of his lyrics that really hit you. What's behind some of them is often very insightful, interesting, and even heartbreaking.

Tupac had many songs where he was more than a rapper. He gave you the truth of the streets with no filter through the eyes of a man who was raised by a mother who was a Black Panther along with being partially raised by the streets. That dichotomy gave him a heart and a mind for his people and for trying to piece that love of self and people while understanding what happens in the hood. IMHO, he rose above it and left the blueprints in his music.

@kathryn Layne Reacts First of I absolutely love your reactions to Tupac Shakur’s work and his music and of course the way he delivers his message in his tracks. You are totally honest with your judgement of his work music delivery and his lyrics. But please please please do us 2pac fans a huge favour and give us your reaction to one of his best songs and powerful delivery’s in the song called UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. I just know for a fact that you will be absolutely blown away by him and the powerful emotional energy that he put into the song. 2pac was far more than just a rapper. He was way before his time on this earth that’s why he was so misunderstood and portrayed as a Thug and a gangsta all by the media but he was far from that. Yea he was surrounded by thug’s and gangsta’s and to some people who didn’t understand his music then yea he would probably sound like he was a gangsta and was all about that life and lifestyle but he wasn’t. He used to say that if I keep on saying and telling people that how dirty and dangerous it is for young black males and females it is growing up and everything that he and his community has been going through for years and years and nothing seems to change and that how dirty and hard it is for them just to be able to make it out of the violence and the environment is then somebody will do something about it and clean things up. He also said “I can’t change the world and the way we live but I guarantee that I will spark the brain of someone that can change the world and the way we live and act. R.I.P PAC THE G.O.A.T 🐐 GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN. LEGEND

Fun fact: Changes was recorded 1992, 5 years before he got killed but got released in 1998 after it got remixed and released as a single.

2pac’s rhythm and style is easy to tune in to. His foundation simple and true to the original art form, it’s his poetry and lyricism that make him stand out.

If someone hasn't already said it, the sample in this song is from "The Way It Is" (1986) by Bruce Hornsby and The Range.

I' sure lots of fans know this and mentioned it in thier blogs. Pay attention to that last line "Some punk that I roughed up way back Comin' back after all these years Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat that's the way it is uhh" even though he wrote this in 92 , that's exactly how he died in 96 after a fight in a casino hours before he was shot, the guy they roughed up followed him and opened fire on him 😢

Tupac wasn’t a gangster rapper-he was a poet and an activist, who did what he needed to in order to survive. He was extremely educated, intelligent, and well-spoken. He just spoke more than one dialect of English, and used them selectively depending on why he was speaking. Dear Mama will make you cry-his political stuff was way better than his hood shit, imho. But he was extremely good regardless which approach he took.

yeah tupac's political stuff was great, the goat rapper being a communist is kinda hilarious when you think about it, but just shows a lot of people don't know tupac was that

Best line in there is the comment on how we have a war on drugs instead of a war on poverty. If anybody is really interested in reducing drug use, weapons violence, welfare expense, or increasing education, reduce poverty and all else follows.
