This was my Mommie's favorite Christmas song. She would sing it every year. She was a beautiful soprano. She fought stomach cancer for 2 years. Last Christmas she was too weak to sing it. This was the first version of this song that I ever heard, many years ago, and it's still my favorite rendition. In fact, the album that this song is from, "Good News", is probably one of the best Christmas albums ever recorded. The album doesn't contain a single throwaway cover of songs like "Winter Wonderland" or "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree". Every song is pretty much non-traditional with heavy emphasis on the true meaning of Christmas. If you liked Kathy's rendition of "Mary Did You Know", I highly recommended picking up a copy of "Good News", just to take a break from "Jingle Bells".

I heard this song while riding in my car Christmas Shopping. It overwhelmed me so, I drove to the Baptist Book Store to buy a copy...While describing the song, I became so emotional, I started to cry while saying the words. Something happened in that store..others began to shed tears and we just stood there in silence....That year, I gave that cd to people at drive thru windows, waitresses, teachers, family and friends.It was truly a gift of PEACE given into our city that year...Thank you Mark Lowry...Carol Moore------Loganville, Ga. There are many Songs About Jesus that are beautiful. “Oh Holy Night,” “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” among them. These songs all tell us what Christmas is really all about. We tend to forget that Christmas is Jesus’ Birthday and everything that means. Kathy Mattea’s version of “Mary did you know” is one of the songs that celebrates Christmas’ meaning but it does so by shifting focus to Jesus’s mother. Mary knew her son was special. The Archangel Gabriel told her so, as did her cousin Elizabeth. Jesus performed His first miracle when He changed water into wine at the wedding feast, but He did so at His Mother’s request. She KNEW her son was special. But did she really know? Did she truly understand? This song is about Jesus’ mother, it’s about Mary. And it touches you in a way few others can. The only other song, that I know of, that touches you this way is Trisha Yearwood’s “It wasn’t his child.” That song by Trisha focuses on Jesus’ Father Joesph. It too is hauntingly beautiful.

Going to heaven doesn't mean about how you treated your fellow man, it's about how you dealt with God, specifically about God incarnated: Jesus Christ. Go to Him, confess to Him, cry to Him.
