Katie was drawn to work in the mental health field after her mother’s history of mental illness and suicide attempt. However, the stigmatized perception of mental emotional distress and a somewhat ineffective mental health care system left her feeling inadequate as a health care provider. Feelings of shame and unworthiness led to her own suicide attempt. Her whole perspective on mental health shifted after she experienced a profound awakening during a meditation in 2012.
Katie is now an Author, Speaker, Film Producer and Project coordinator working to change the paradigm by which severe mental emotional distress is viewed and treated. She was one of the Founding Directors of the International Spiritual Emergence Network, providing a collaborative platform for the global networks that exist to support people going through the spiritual emergence process.
Katie also founded the International anti- stigma campaign in support of those experiencing a difficult transformation process; #Emerging Proud: and the Emerging Kind; a project training Peers to hold a ‘Safe Space’ for those going through a transformative crisis.
