CRAZYWISE Conversations: Dina Tyler - Finding Purpose and Meaning
Dina Tyler’s childhood trauma and her tendency to experience extraordinary states of consciousness eventually resulted in her being diagnosed, medicated and hospitalized for psychosis.
Finding meaning and purpose through her psychological crisis and extraordinary states gave her the vision and strength to heal and profoundly expand her concept of ‘self’ and her compassion for humanity.
Dina now works as a counselor to youth experiencing early psychosis and is co-founder of the San Francisco Bay Area Hearing Voices Network. She is also co-director of the Bay Area Mandala Project and was named Peer Specialist of the Year by the National Council for Behavioral Health in 2015.

This was not in the video, I was a bit disappointed I was looking for more on this state. I experienced it and it was diagnosed as psychosis. I do not think so. Maybe according to the western dsm v type definitions. But what is a definition. It is a construct. If psychosis is a lack of touch with reality than I strongly believe that the diagnosis of this state, the state that I believe she is talking about (I am not saying that all states are not psychosis), is Wrong. Very Wrong. If you do say this state, this nondualistic state, is out of touch with reality then you are denying the wisdom of a vast number of creeds of spirituality, mysticism, and religion that have been around for centuries, millenia, and who define this state as the veridical state. That is more than a bit presumptuous of modern medicine in my opinion. My diagnosis did me a lot of damage since for a long time I believed them. Although in my heart of hearts I knew it as truth, you cannot experience this and deny it as truth. In fact denial of it has only led to depression and anxiety. It is only recently that I have begun denying the denial. I am returning to the truth. The Truth if you are to believe the sages. I do. It is reported ~30% of people experience these type of "mystical" states, if you have, search your hearts, you will know it as truth too. And if our sometimes short-sighted science has denied you, deny it, and know you are not alone. So much that was said resonated with me deeply. I appreciated hearing this very much. Thank you Dina and Phil! Thank you!
