I guess a comparison with the original is barely appropriate for this song, as it's pretty tough to pin down what the original even is! The first known recording was by Danny Doyle, but no video has survived. Afterwards the ballad was recorded in many versions, notably by Barleycorn in 1982, but the version by Paddy Reilly with The Dubliners was the most successful. Since then, two other versions are also known to have been very successful: Cox Crew in 1999 and Dance to Tipperary in 2001. Anyway, this absolutely amazing rendition sung by Katie O’Flaherty is certainly a brilliant addition to a lineup of worthy predecessors! 👏☺❤
