Thanks for the transparency, it’s nice to finally see someone talking about net profit and not just gross income 👏

That's honestly amazing achievement, and thanks for providing your insight. Getting that first paycheck from KZbin is one of my favorite memories. I still remember it, there was lots of emotions involved. If it wasn't for my consistency and hard work (and a little bit of Famester of course), I probably wouldn't have made anything.

Katie! You have just explained profit breakdown AND taxes better than 99% of the accountants I have dealt with (there have been many...) over my career. The business owners I have worked with are so overwhelmed and confused by their numbers (often because of said accountants), so huge kudos to you for being so confident with financials. For me, when I look at a business owners future success, knowing this information at the level you do = long term success in any business.

I make $0 and yet I create content pretty regularly, I don't even care anymore as I realized that this chasing profits obsession was forcing creativity and that made it more like a real job. I just want to have fun with content creation, that is more valuable to me than anything else. In my older age, I find more value in relaxation and fun than I do in turning a profit. I got off of the treadmill...

As someone who recently got monetized that’s a great approach. People can tell if you’re in it for the money and you’re making stuff just so that you can get views. People generally don’t like desperation like to watch they like to watch. I got monetized from a few videos, taking off and getting thousands of views. The algorithm will do its job and you do yours.

This is the first piece of your content I've ever seen and I'm totally awestruck by your honesty, intelligence and prudence. Not to mention the clarity with which you presented the information. I have no plans to be a content creator but this video (especially the end) should be viewed by EVERY young person today. The wisdom and the gratitude - secret sauce for life. I don't need to wish you success because your values and mindset has got that covered no matter which way the wind blows. Love from your Commonwealth cousin 🇦🇺

I completely resonate with what you said at the end there! just bought a 400 square ft house with a 2012 car and trying to travel as cheap as I can so I can go as often as possible. Huge respect for you choosing to live this way too, whenever I try to explain this to people a lot don't understand ❤

Thank you Katie! I’m happy to see you explaining this, as so many people think we entrepreneurs and content creators make sooo much money out of “nothing” and it is, as you said, because we often talk about revenue only. When I started my business 24 years ago I made 78k€ but paid for myself 12k€ a year. So many people were thinking I was so wealthy and I could barely make my ends meet. It’s so important to explain transparently what is the truth.

This was incredibly eye-opening to me! On many levels. 1st, it blew me away how much of your revenue was with Brand deals and the digital product was fairly low. 2nd, it really showed me I need to do an LLC with my business. 3rd. The money smarts and your self-control to pay yourself modestly with a view to the future. Really appreciate this. This transparency really puts it into perspective what ~ 500,000 means in real terms. We imagine KZbinrs making this revenue to be living the high life because we don’t get the full picture of what that money means.

You nailed it. Forming a Corp doesn't necessarily save as there are additional costs and headaches, but it allows one to postpone income for down the road. You can also use Net Income After Tax from your biz financials to qualify for more financing. A sole proprietor generally writes their income down to to the floor, and thus most often times needs alternative financing. Great video and breakdown!
