Another really useful tip, if you have a plastic palette that's caked with dried paint that doesn't want to come off easily, pour a bit of water on top so that it fills each well and carefully put in the freezer until the water is frozen. What happens is that the water freezes and binds to the paint, so when you rinse it under warm water the dried paint comes off effortlessly. I would recommend doing this in a bucket so the paint doesn't clog your drain.

People these days would slap on vintage filters and overlays then spends 5 minutes of the video playing overrated ‘relaxing’ music as they pour tea at a snail’s pace and dramatically munches on some crackers before going “Heeeyyy guuuuyyys, welcome to my channeeeeelll” and blathers about their life for the next 5 minutes for no reason at all before actually getting onto the video :/ Bonus points if they somehow manage to get a sponsor, and they spend another 5 minutes uselessly rephrasing unimportant details.

Hi Katie, lots of great tips thanks. You didn’t mention a Stay Wet pallet that I use and love. I use paper towels as a base and baking parchment as a top, keep base moist and a light spray of water on my acrylics and I can keep paint moist for up to 2 weeks.
@50LOVESIT5 жыл бұрын
Sheila Burdon wait.....so.... how do you keep the bottom paper towel wet?
@MrBoguechitto25 жыл бұрын
Sheila Burdon , do u mean u put your paints directly on the paper towel? I’m a beginner
@MrBoguechitto25 жыл бұрын
So, do you mean you put paints directly on the paper towel? Anyone?
@sofiatravassos4 жыл бұрын
MrBoguechitto2 The paper towels take a really long time to dry if they’re the slightest bit isolated from circulating air, so she probably covers the palette with plastic or in a box. The paints are laid out on top of the parchment paper, which is on top of the wet paper towels, so the moisture comes from both underneath and from the top (water spray)
@sofiatravassos4 жыл бұрын
Some people use actual towels to provide moisture for longer btw, but just keep in mind that this means there’s a chance the towel will get stained by the paint if you’re not super duper careful, so use an old towel or piece of thicker cloth

I use icecube trays that come w/ a lid to mix my most needed colors for a painting and a palette on the side to constantly mix other nuances or thin them up w/ water. This way I don't need to take a breaks to make my basic colors too often, they don't bleed into each other thanks to the little containers, they don't dry down in between painting sessions thanks to the lid and the quantity I can make. Great advices, thank you!

I'm a beginner but I got a good tip from an artist. I put a wet paper towel on a surface (like a palette) and then I put some baking paper on top, on which I put my acrylics on, so they don't harden and dry out that easily while painting. And you can put another layer of baking paper on top of the acylics if you are taking a little pause, so they don't dry out.
@petermartin50302 ай бұрын
If you do that, but in a Tupperware style box, you can keep the paint wet for weeks. Better still use the box upside down so that when you remove the base of the box, the lid acts as an easy access palette.

Thank You for the tips..Drawing & Painting was my first passion since 6 yrs old.., I stopped for a few years as I wanted to learn so may crafts having worked @ a large art center where I loved watching, artist create beautiful, animals from welding different metals to sculpt wonderful pieces so I bartered my jewelry pieces for a member of their family or other friends as gifts, and I could learn a new trade in metal sculpting, I loved being fortunate to have worked with very talented people to learn the basics and in time had accomplished and created many pieces with ceramics, embroidery, sewing, design my own rug..Soon I will begin work on it and try sculpting figures for a few hours, then work on my acrylic painting I can fit it into my daily schedule.. I have seen your videos and I actually learned to keep from frustrating myself..since I changed from oils to acrylics because of the odors..You have a unique way of explaining when your showing us how to paint whatever the picture was, I mention this because your passion shows, most important that you caught my attention, and you aren't criticising anyone whatever mediums we choose to use and or methods...Trust me I know that negative approach gets nowhere , my art classes @ school from 1st grade to college there was that odd instructor that is so critical of most of us, I finally realised before semester ends they really don't want to be there, they took the position for the job..

I use a fine mist sprayer for both my palette and the canvas. The fine mist helps me not go overboard. Fluid/mediums do work, but can also mess with mixing and transparency. My DIY pallete fits in a low-profile wide tupperware container and is just a sheet of acrylic panel. I can preserve paints in there for quite a long time, especially if I mist it up. I use wax paper to make cleanup easy and keep the paint from gumming up the plumbing. Paint what you see is hard to put into words, but I try to go for general shapes. I discard all the notions of seeing things as objects, and I have to trust the process to eventually make something that looks like the object in the end. It's scary. But it's really exciting when you occasionally step back, and you can see the objects coming together!

Hello))) Thank you for sharing))) But have you ever had your painting flake off the canvas? I was using water in the beginning as well. But now I prefer to use different fluids and gels instead. There are also special sprays to keep the painting and the pallet wet, but not with water. Water is in fact a dissolvant for acrylic. The more water you are using, the less binder there will be in the acrylic. Special fluids serve as a binder in fact. With them we can be sure our painting will not flake off in a couple of years even in a very dry climate.

i learned to paint mostly from Ginger Cook on you tube, and she uses mostly an angle brush. I have dabbled with others for uses obviously if it demands a round, fan or filbert for the shapes I am making. However, when it comes between a bright or flat, or an angle, I am now trying to use some brights, flats, instead, but I just love the angle brush so much. It is perfect for leaves, flowers, straight lines, and many more.

@@AvidLearner11 she didn't say that she used them for anything before hand, I got the impression that she gets plates specifically for palettes. If she is recycling tho by all means it's a good thing

Painting the canvas a colour before painting over it sounds like a really good idea tbh

Plastic throw away dinner plates are excellent palettes. They are cheap and you should be able to find them at your local supermarket. Great video

Hi Jennifer, Thanks so much! 😀 The painting in the background is one of personal paintings so I won't be making a tutorial. But I might be able to do something else soon 😃

Hey Katie, I'm a beginner and don't know what "grounding the canvas" means. Do you have a video that explains this? Or maybe could you do one?

You Need to prep the canvas or your paper, its help to creat a non white base, add texture and also block water (goodbye waving paper from water). Two options : -light one, with white and tiny bit of yellow -dark one :dark brown (terre d'ombre brûlé, idk the English name sorry) and phtalo blue. It makes a sort of black. But dont use black And no water!! Crossing gesture to make texture. Need to be drying for at least 5h
