The original Wren design, built at Meacham field in Fort Worth, had leading edge slats. These were retractable.

Interesting..... I helped pull a pilot out of one of these after he stalled it on a hot day showing off as to how SLOW it would fly at takeoff on a 80 deg. day back in 1980 ( give or take a few years )at Compton Airport, Calif. ,.............. I believe it was called a wren 460 ... it did take off SLOW but as it dropped a wing and flew over our hanger ( at 30' agl )we were all running across the street and made to the craft before the dust settled..... I still love this plane, pilot and co-pilot were STUNNED and CONFUSED and really hurt after the crash.......... never did find out how the rest of the day went for them, but I did take some meet crash photos........... I still LOVE this plane but TRAINING is a MUST.... it is not crash proof !

Pilot or hot-dogger? A pilot is one who knows to show off can be deadly. Hot doggers are one who becomes the statistic, and that doing so is not safe. All the idea was to make an airplane that is safer for the pilot and passengers. They got their part right, by making it safer and easier, just not sure about so-called HOT-dogger guys!

@@JustaPilot1 Really, then you probably wouldn’t know one if it jumped up and bit you on the ass. The only commonality between the Wren 460 and the Katmai series is the forward mounted canard. The Wren 460 had multiple element flaps, coupled to the drooping ailerons, and movable air guides on the upper wing surface, the Wrens Teeth. The rear of the Cessna wing was completely redesigned to allow for the installation of the flap/aileron system of the Wren package. Not the same company, as the head of the company at the time was the one and only Jim Robertson. Todd Petersen acquired the STC for the WREN in the early 80’s, and produced a few “Wrens” but without the extensive wing and control modification the Jim Robertson WREN was designed with. Todd evolved the WREN design into the Katmai SE260 series available today, NOT the same aircraft!

Not the sharpest tool in the shed are you? Like I stated before, you wouldn’t know the difference if it jumped up and bit you in the ass! They are NOT the same airplane and they are not the same company. You apparently are in need of further edumucation as you don’t seem to understand the difference. Acquiring the STC does not make it the same company, the Katmai is not a Wren, and if you’d like, we could meet down at Mr. Peterson’s place. Then, he could ‘splain the difference to you. I’ll fly down in my Murphy and you can come down on your broom. We done?
