Texas is not solely dependent on oil. There are tech,biomedical research, logistics, aerospace , banking and higher education sectors. 26 Fortune 500 companies in Houston and 22 Fortune 500 companies in Dallas. Austin and San Antonio has several also. It’s a lot more than oil honestly.

couldn't agree more. Seems like a take from someone who never actually lived in Texas. I'm up in Plano and moved here from Miami back in 2018. Certain areas in Texas definitely are more Oil focused but in Plano for example, finance and tech is more of a focus than oil.

Suburban Houston looks like suburban Orlando.The houses are a little more castle looking with more bricks but in general they have a similar feel.

I went to Katy in august I loved it. Was my first time in Texas and I fell in love. I’m from and live in Allentown Pennsylvania. I’m trynna come back down and do HVAC maybe Katy or Brownsville like somewhere in the RGV. My cousin lives in Cinco Ranch and that’s a nice area too. I’ve been to Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi. I don’t like the big cities I’d rather stay in the suburbs and country.

We just moved to Katy from Canada! Canada is just too expensive now, we bought our house in canada for about $3.3m, ended up selling it within 2 years and we just purchased a new home here in Katy, for about $2.4m, and trust me when I say it is nearly 3x bigger than our house in Canada for nearly a million dollars less. That's just how insanely expensive Canada has gotten. If I'm being honest, although I haven't been here for a long time, it is MUCH better than Canada.

I've lived in Katy for 42 years. I'm ready to move to eastern TN. I've loved it here in decades past, but the mountains are calling me and I'm seriously sick and tired of all the Spanish speaking in establishments (language barrier) and the traffic. TN demographics are much better for what I'm seeking. I see many C or D grades in diversity in so many of their schools, this I give a A+ on. Katy used be all Americana and now I feel I'm living Mexico. It's sad to see my hometown change into something I hardly recognize anymore. You may love it, but many life-long locals are disheartened. Regarding industry/employment, Houston has been an O & G city for sure. However, Houston has diversified drastically over the last few decades into medical, IT, loads of engineering, teaching etc. Katy, Texas has many residents that work in the O and G industry due to it's proximity to the Energy Corridor at I-10/Eldridge. Katy ISD is ranked #1 in the Houston Metro area. Cinco Ranch is not a town, it is a master-planned community located within the unincorporated areas of Katy. It has consistently ranked high among master-planned communities in the nation. Cinco Ranch now totals 8,092 acres (32.75 km2) and is expected to have 14,000 homes at build-out.

As someone who previously lived in North Alabama (where it's all just Blacks and Whites) and now live in Houston, I think I get what you're talking about. I would agree that diversity is a great when living in a state or country. I believe it’s amazing to see all works of lives, it’s what makes America a great place to live. Someone should not have to feel tired of hearing different languages.
