Because any admission of being wrong is like a gaping wound that the enemy can tear into and cause massive destruction. This is why everything has to be all in. Part of a human's evolutionary reproductive strategy isn't just to pass on one's genes, but to stop others from passing on theirs. If you've ever been cockblocked or had your girlfriend taken, it's not because you did anything wrong. It's because the person(s) who stopped you felt threatened with you finding a partner and acted out their biological imperative. It's all about controlling who has sexual access.

I was talking about the hearing last weekend with an acquaintance of mine, and she confided to me that growing up in Georgia she had an uncle who was an alcoholic. In a very bad way. Constantly in and out of rehab. Always in trouble with the law. Anyway, she said that the response Brett gave in the hearing when Senator Klobuchar asked him about his drinking ("It's - you're asking about, you know, blackout. I don't know. Have you?, Yeah, and I'm curious if you have.") was _exactly_ how her uncle used to act when the family would confront him about his alcoholism. Just throwing that out there.

Roger London your comment was really awful. As a Christian, I personally do not support legalizing abortion and I believe marriage should be heterosexual (though I don't agree that it should be legally enforced, it's not the court's place to enforce Christian values). But everything you said in your comment (that I could understand anyway) was shameful and disgusting. May I ask you why you are against gay marriage? Is it due to Christian values? Because if so, explain how your Christian values allow you to believe it's right to google the photo of this woman naked. I am really shocked that any human being would do something so awful, and anybody who would do that, let alone encourage others to do so, is not reflecting anything resembling Christianity whatsoever. None of us know whether or not Blasey-Ford is telling the truth. My first instinct upon hearing about it on the radio was that these accusations have been happening so much lately and that she is likely lying. But upon hearing the testimonies from both of them and seeing the evidence, I am now inclined to believe her story and doubt a lot of his testimony. What makes you so convinced that she is lying? Was it based on what you previously decided before you saw any evidence or was it based on conclusions made after? Let's say that she is lying. She isn't the one nominated for the supreme court so it doesn't really matter that she's a liar. What _would_ matter then is Kavanaugh's current behaviour, during this whole process because he is the one being nominated for a very important position. If he did lie under oath, then he cannot become a supreme court justice, regardless of whether or not the accusations are true. Edit: Seeing your comments in other places in this comment section makes me suspect that maybe you are trolling (and I really hope that you are). If not, people who speak like you make me think that they're republicans first before anything and use Christianity to justify their stances, rather than Christians first who base their politics on Christian values.

To me, he forfeited all credibility when he went into that hearing and went all in on the Trumpism. Prattling on about left wing conspiracies, "revenge for the Clintons", how the whole system is rigged against him, how the allegations are a total joke etc. etc. Add in the snide comments to senators, calling the whole thing a scam by the Democrats, possibly lying under oath, and there is that small matter of those sexual misconduct allegations. What would your instincts be if your entire career hinged on public approval, and now every decision you've ever made since highschool, is on trial. We do not live in a world primarily comprised of critical thinkers. Many voters have a very simple black and white mentality. In the process of questioning Cavanaugh about rape, these lawyers are also painting an imbalanced picture of him being a drunk. It makes sense that his instincts are to try to save his image with simplistic tactics. A lot of voters dont understand nuance.

I watched the bulk of the hearing a few days ago. The moment that sticks with me from Kavanaugh's testimony, beyond his weird shifts between blubbering and fury, is his _terrible_ selling of the 'Devil's Triangle' lie. It came at the end of a list of colloquialisms he was asked to define. Every one of them up to that point he had answered with some confidence, true or false. But 'Devil's Triangle' caught him out so well, his answer could serve as the prime example for people wanting to know what "pulling an answer out of one's own ass" means.

I'd never heard the expression before - so the Kavanaugh hearing was the first. His reaction and answer told me right away that whatever the Devil's triangle was, Kavanaugh didn't want to say - and that his vague answer about a game was a lie. So too were his answers about Boofing, Ralph club and the Renate Alumini. He lied - badly. In doing so he proved he isn't honorable, honest or trustworthy. I'd reject him for a job at Burger King.

Roger London we now we have a possible Supreme Court justice that can’t admit he took alcohol up his ass and has threesomes. Thanks to the Republicans I see patients that cannot afford prenatal care and can’t take care of their precious fetus. We have 5,000 children of immigrants in captivity here in the us, while many of their parents were the deported. We have children in NICU with parents that cannot afford the care due to Obama care being destroyed. These same babies will now have to pay extra for being born sick and having a preexisting conditions. We have children whose after school programs Have been cut, because you know, the top 1% had to have their tax cut. So while it is very touching that you “moral” republicans want to save unborn babies and judges that lie about taking alcohol through their butthole and support the pussygrabbing president, it would be great if you gave a rats ass about newborn babies and children. It would be nice if you cared about the kids after their born instead of voting for a party that cares more about tax breaks for golf course owners (that’s an actual tax credit now) than prenatal care for pregnant women and medical insurance for all Children.

I believe that Kavanaugh made everything a lot worse for himself. If he had behaved with dignity and honesty at the senate hearing, instead of lying, dodging questions, boasting, lashing out at senators, and ranting about Democratic conspiracies, I doubt even liberal comedy shows like Colbert and SNL would be going after him or turning him into a joke. Ultimately his own behavior has tarnished his name more than an unsubstantiated allegation ever could.

Oh and by the way, he didn't supposedly rape her. He assaulted her, there was no penetration by her account. Just dry humping and groping. Rape is assault but assault isn't necessarily rape. It's apparent he has an issue holding his composure. It's perceptible he has a problem with alcoholism and violence against women. People in positions of power, especially those with professions in law enforcement and the judicial system, are the most likely to surmise they are above the law. In turn, they're also the most likely to cross boundaries, push limits, and blatantly break the law -- because they believe they'll get away with it. The same thing goes for privileged people. How much do you want to bet that Kavanaugh's wife and daughters will come out one day proclaiming they've been abused by Brett?! I'd put money on it!!! Brett on the other hand has trouble with presenting who he is and was. All he had to do was say, in High School I was a an asshole and I did stupid things, but I grew up and spent the last XXX years mending my ways and trying to do my best, my service to this country is me giving back and making amends. But instead he wants to lie about his past. The thing is I don't want a Supreme Court Judge that lies under oath. Do you have kids? I raised my Kids to be accountable for what they do. When they have erred I expect remorse. I have high standards for the Supreme Court and my Children. Don't you?? ALSO I need Supreme Court Justices that can keep their cool, I don't care what they were saying to him, his behavior alternated between whinny and belligerent. If he was my child after that hearing we would have had the talk about "just because everybody else is running off the cliff...... " AND he wasn't smart enough to HIDE he partisanship. Definitely not a good thing. It's the mark of a psychopath. He can quickly and easily convince himself that whatever story he fabricates is irrefutably true. Thus, it seems honest because he genuinely believes what he's saying... Or, at that moment he does, at the very least. Most people like him ("uber-successful" business people) are very similar. It's why they made the main character of "American Psycho" an affluent investment banker... From Manhattan of all places. On top of that, Trump is a master-level salesman. He knows how to effectively sell an idea to large audiences, that much is undeniable and it has been proven over and over again... Combine those traits... Well... You end up with someone who can easily convince the majority of people to believe whatever lies they want them to...

Vichrae V., if someone can sit in jail for 36 years or Cold Cases can be closed after decades, then I'm going to say that yeah, someone should very much be held accountable so long after the fact. People change, this is true. But if someone has changed to the point that they are a contributing member of society, then likewise they realize that they should be held accountable for their ignoble actions. No one wants to be punished, but everyone understands exaclty why punishments are necessary.

@Dime Bag: The reason republicans are willing to vote for someone who displays entitlement, contempt, perjury, and potential sexual assault is he will enact their larger agenda. This is their last chance before the midterms where they know they have the power/votes to stack the Supreme Court in their favor. Particularly heinous is the assertion that Trump only picked Kavanaugh b/c his views suggest he will protect the President from any convictions by Mueller. As a journalist said, "It's like the defendant being able to pick the jury." Once they have enough extreme right wing judges on the bench, it will be a get out of jail free stamp for all their corporate and political crimes. We will fail to be an independently functioning democracy with a court that consistently rules against the average American system. I don't drink, but this kind of immorality makes me think I should be self destructive and start. Just kidding.

He knows how testimonies go. He knows what perjury is. But if he did it anyways, that shows he's a judge that doesn't actually care about the law. Thus he's actually terrible at his job and should not get hired. He would be a shitty barista and shouldn't get hired. I can't say that enough. People who lie and commit crimes are bad judges. Lying is bad. The job of the FBI is to see if he lied during his testimony. Not to dig and find a crime from the 80's. Did he lie in 2018? If he did, he doesn't get the job and should go to jail.
