Corey Sullivan Yes, let's take one case and apply it to the entire catalogue of sexual assault allegations... In all seriousness though, yes, it theoretically COULD happen to any man (the same way being struck by lightning COULD happen to any man) but the fact of the matter is that false accusations happen very rarely (even the highest estimates for 2017 (which is said to have had the highest number of false accusations on record) have it at roughly 5%) and sexual assault is one of the least reported crimes anyway. The chances of an average completely innocent individual being accused, I'd imagine, is very very small. Because that's the thing - men who are completely innocent have virtually nothing to fear when it comes to matters like this because no allegation would stick. If you're honestly worried it might happen to you...well, maybe it's worth evaluating your behaviour.

About 10 years ago some creepy guy stalked me on the Dart train in Dallas. The first time he sat next to me on a crowded car, and proceeded to slam his body into mine with every bump in the track. I was slammed up against the window, it was certainly uncomfortable - but most crowded train rides are. The second time I saw him weeks later at the station I boarded on(glaring at me); I decided to take the next train and left the station (I was worried but used to men starring at me in public at this point). The third and last time I encountered him - it was a nearly empty train car. So many empty seats and he sat right next to me, blocking me against the window - again. He pushed the side of his body really hard against me like last time. But he was more bold and less witnesses were around. He took his hand and put it on my thigh. It happened so fast. Within 2 seconds his hand was at my crotch (wearing jeans). I grabbed his hand and said "what are you doing???" He stared blankly ahead and did not respond. I held the top of his hand tightly, away from my my leg for almost a whole minute before he decided to stop groping me and pulled his hand back into his own lap. My reaction was "wtf??", I laughed, shook my head, and stared out the window. I was in disbelief. I was scared. Not so scared that he would attack me there, but scared he would follow me to my apartment or something. I never saw him again. I thought about reporting him then, and I should have. But I didn't because I felt embarrassed, ashamed that it happened at all, and didn't want to be bothered filling out a report and talking to other people about it. I was 19 when that man touched me on a train. None of my family members know this event occurred; only internet strangers and a few former friends. I don't go out in public often; I have always been a recluse and introvert. I never went to HS/college parties. The first time I got drunk I was 21; celebrating alone in my apartment. And this bullsh!t still f*cking happened to me. Was it minor compared to what other women have gone through? YES. Had I been more socially active throughout my life I guarantee that I would have more sexual assault and harassment stories to share(or keep secret). I am tired of people not believing women when they say it happened. It happens. every. damn. day.

None of that matters. Because of the fact that so many women have lied, and that there's *obvious* incentive to do so, and potential for significant loss regardless, Kavenaugh deserves (even if guilty) to be served with due process under his rights as an American Citizen. And by the way, I've had many similar incidents such as the one you describe happen to me. And I would never in my right mind believe it were the "right thing to do" to send a media circus after those people, with the full knowledge that they are guilty. You can't let your own experiences cause you to pressure our system into denying people the rights they deserve.
@semi65446 жыл бұрын
Shaun Kahler -- You say that it doesn't matter because many women have lied. Where did you get this fact from? From what I understand, less than 20% of accusations are false. There is only one famous false accusation that I can recall and that is related to the Duke Lacrosse scandal. I have done a bit of research. Every accusation deserves significant coverage. If they are willing to go to the point of prosecution, then those liars would also face enormous consequences. If you actually believe the accuser is lying then bring it to court and I'm sure that accuser would take back their statement and be proven a liar. Otherwise, these accusers have no reason to lie. I am not a female but have a conversation with your girlfriend, wife, or best girlfriends and you'd realize that these stories are common place and daily events.
@semi65446 жыл бұрын
Shaun Kahler -- First I didn't side with the accuser or the accused. Due process determines who is deemed to be right in the eyes of society. When, I said under 20% of the accusers are found to be making false accusations, that number isn't a made up statistic. Of course it is impossible to find out how many accusers are lying if their cases never go to court. 80% of accusers whose cases go to trial are found credible by a group of our peers. Senate democrats, the accusers, a majority of the media, and a minority of the Republican congress believe a thorough investigation is needed before making a judgment. I also believe a proper investigation is needed. You are the only person here just making a judgment based on your opinion and some deep seated hatred towards women.

I've done some terrible things to women when I was a teenager, with and without alcohol, and I can remember all of it. it fills me with shame and was one of the driving forces behind my change towards becoming a better person. I don't hide it (well, I'm not too keen on indulging in the details) because it is an important part of my path. I don't think people would be as adamantly against his nominations if he'd be honest about the allegations and his behaviour, and if the people could see the change from then to now. People make mistakes, people do horrible things. but people can change. first step is admitting to it. Alas, it seems Kavanaugh has never admitted to any wrongdoings. he is a "virgin saint" by his own admittance. yet, there is no saint without sinning.

That's the thing. I don't think allegations from high school and college are necessarily disqualifying, because everyone makes mistakes, and people can change and deserve a chance to do so. But the way he's responded to all of this shows a complete lack of remorse. He clearly has no qualms about lying to the American people and engaging in cover-ups if it means obtaining more power. Someone like that should not be a Supreme Court Justice.

Exactly! To all on here. No one is perfect, and many people did things they regret when they were younger. It's a part of growing up and learning how to adult (yes, I used that as a verb). But as one learns and grows up, they hopefully become a better person and can admit their wrongdoings and show where and how they have changed. This is where Kavanaugh, drumpf, and the rest of the republicons get it wrong. I'd be fine (on some level) if he would admit to the charges and show how over the last 30 some years he's been completely different. They shoot themselves in the foot when all they ever do is deny and say "I don't know who that is", "I was never there", "she's lying", etc.

Yesterday, I sat there and watched what I could of Trump's freewheeling press conference, thinking all the while, "Wow. This really is the Twilight Zone." Then I realized that Trump was on a sugar high from what he probably perceived to be a day of "tough meetings" and "in-depth talks" with world leaders at the UN. "Boy, I'm finally one of them! They're listening to me. I must be good. No, I'm damn good. Now I'm gonna give a press conference while I'm on a roll!" Nope. UN leaders were probably listening to you for the same reason I was watching your press conference: just for the sheer, dark entertainment value. Like watching a car crash in slow motion. Do i dwell on it? no I got over it. It could have been worse. I could have been raped and this guy would have killed me. I am certain of it. I can't remember his name. Ford is a psychology professor. Yes mental health. She is smart enough to fool you. The man that did her polygraph test never mentioned Kavanaugh's name during the entire session. It wasn't him. It was someone else and this is how they passed her. No doubt it happened. Big doubt that it bothered her for the rest of her life. lol. Did your fake news tell you there where two men that came forward who remembered the incident and said it might have been them? no that was left out of court. Did Ford's X boy friend get to testify? nope. none of the people she named that would support her story as witnesses. They said it never happened and they where not there. None of them saw Kavanaugh at any of the parties Ford has attended. Yes ALL of them said that. Not one person would stick their necks out to lie for her. Not even her best friend who was 13 at the time and Ford said was at the party. Yes the one Ford testified she left there when she ran out of the house. (Wrong Party?) Go watch the whole thing and seriously tell me if you believe her. The judge didn't believe her! Are you smarter than a professional judge? Fords testimony was a written down and rehearsed. Poor little girl. Did you fall for it? too bad for you. I am glad you don't have any angry old girlfriends. Seems no one needs any evidence. Just take their word for it. Don't have any evidence to "Prove" it. They switched it around in people's minds that it is the defendants responsibility to Prove it is not so. (Did they trick you?) . Doesn't matter if they are innocent as long as people "THINK" the person is guilty. Head Games! rofl. The stuff they spew on shows like these come out with allegations of rumors started by unnamed sources and use the "Anything is Possible" theory then tell it in a way to make you "THINK" their words are proof. They never worry about having evidence. Damage is done by what they Make you think. They stop talking about it after it is debunked. But they never tell the audience that. Putting all these collective negative affirmations in your heads until you start to believe it. Why are you letting them trick you like this? You are just one of their minions. I don't laugh at stuff like this. It isn't funny. Once "People like Me" and gone, they will go after you. Be careful what you wish for. Those are the facts. Go check it yourself.

I would venture to guess that The only pill takers would be found at the homes of Hillary, Barack, James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Loretty Lynch (her last name is Lynch, how funny is that?)

So, everyone is going to hear Ford's account tomorrow, and then Brett will be approved and sworn in Friday like none of this ever happened. Cool.

Their only objective is to ensure his confirmation before mid terms. When the next recession hits they need the supreme court to rule in favour or corporations and ensure the little people get fucked. This guys votes 87% of the time with corporations so he's perfect.

When you live in a country, where the one accusing someone of sexual assault, is the one being slandered and attacked rather than the one being accused... All without an investigation.

Not me mind you, I'm watching from the relative safety of my northern "bunker" we call Canada.

To be fair, that appears to be a human male-centric thing, not just an American thing.

They're both being slandered. Kavanaugh is the one being slaughtered in the media if you've noticed. The accuser has zero evidence, and according to her own testimony there won't BE any evidence to be found, because she doesn't remember the time or the place, and all of the 4 witnesses she brought up said UNDER OATH that they don't recall anything like that happening. After all, it was over 35 years ago. Furthermore, this allegation was around for months but the Democrats refused to bring it up until now, waiting until the last minute so they can drag out things until midterms and perhaps block the nomination. Rennis, you are ignorant of our politics. It's not your fault, but it's the truth. Do not ever go to Colbert for politics, he is insanely biased to the left that you can almost guarantee that everything he says is completely wrong and misleading. Thankfully, we live in a country where you are innocent until proven guilty, and one allegation with no evidence is not enough to block a supreme court nomination. He will be appointed soon, watch.
