Jesus Christ, man. You had me sweating while watching this. I'm glad you didn't screw up your bike! Good job.

Nice video but the bike shop is going to have my $500.

The shims have the size stamped on them if you buy from kawasaki. Also the factory manual has an chart that tells you what size shim to use demanding on your size gauge that slides in.

I was wondering how to position camshafts after valve shim replacement, and that's it! Thanks for the zip strips advice!

I working on a bike that won't start, I have fuel, have spark, have compression, my last guess is the valves need to be adjusted. Will the bike not start if the valve clearances are way off? The bike has 45,000 miles on it lol

What size are the shims? Not the thickness but the width? I think it's 7.48 but I just wanted to double check

Great video. How hard was it to reset the throttle bodies, and is it difficult to install the manual cam tensioner?
@jameslowe46619 жыл бұрын
When you say "reset" are you referring to reinstalling the throttle bodies or are you asking about synchronization? Reinstallation is straightforward but synchronization requires a special synchronization tool. I have the vacuum sync tool made by Motion Pro but there are many options from different manufacturers. There is even a D.I.Y method if you have the courage. The manual cam chain tensioner is not difficult at all. You just swap one for the other and it's easy to get to on the right side of the engine. I bought mine from APE and they have great instructions on their website.

James Lowe I see my parlance is quite poor. Yes synchronize the throttle bodies.... Since you did not disconnect did you have to synchronize the throttle bodies? Also Yes about the cam tensioner. Another video I saw specifically for it zip-tied the chain and set it to TDC. Do the zip ties hold the chain in place just in chain it gets bumped out of position?

Hey Man I'm going to Attempting this Next Month. I finally got the nerve to do it after watching you. I would ask if you are any where near NJ. But the chances of that I would assume are slim. In Any Case who's Shims are you using and What is the diameter that fits correctly. I'm having issues finding them. The Kawasaki OEM shims are VERY expensive. The cheapest I've found was about $6.30 a Shim.

Where did you get your shim kit? I have the same bike but I only see kits for dirt bikes.

30k miles for first valve check is great, unless this is the 2nd time as per specs, still not bad only having one shim out !
@jameslowe466110 жыл бұрын
This was our 2nd valve adjustment and I agree, the 636 has so far been very durable and reliable. I can foresee this engine exceeding 100K miles without any problems.

Where did you find the information and paperwork for the shims and how to?

Does the '13-'16 zx6r use 7.48mm OD shim? I can't find a shim kit with this bike specifically listed and I don't want the order the wrong shims. Thanks in advance.
@Shimmoda7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have a 09 zx6r and I can't find out which width they are. The manual doesn't even specify it. I'm pretty sure they are 7.48 for mine but it might be different since mine is 599cc vs your 636cc. Did you ever find out what size they were?
@jackdaniel18487 жыл бұрын
I'm still not 100% but I went with 7.48, since that appears to be what Kawasaki uses on all its models. I'll find out for sure this Saturday when I begin the procedure and I'll report back.
@Shimmoda7 жыл бұрын
Sounds good! I figured I would do my measurements then just call a local dealer to see what they had. I think mine is different tho since it's a different engine. Thanks man
@jackdaniel18487 жыл бұрын
The shim sizes are indeed 7.48. I'm in the middle of doing my valve adjustment as I write this. FYI, have a very long 3mm hex key handy before starting this procedure. I bought a 3/8" 3mm hex key socket and used it with a long socket extension. Good Luck.
