Its can be even more satisfying than getting a new bike, making an old bike run better than any time during your time of ownership. Can feel your love for the bike and your dislike of stupid government regulations.

Love the bike....I ride an older Bandit 12 and know what you mean about ethanol fuel...mine hates it! I use 2oz of seafoam in every tank full and have had no problems. When I got the bike I couldn't adjust the pilot screws, since running seafoam I was able to adjust and fine tune my carbs to my taste. Knock of wood bike has been running beautifully since then. Hope this helps and stay safe. Shiny side up my friend.

Very nice bike....I ride a ‘98 Bandit 12 and had similar problems. I could not adjust the pilot jets and wouldn’t idle smoothly. A buddy of mine said that “ethanol in current fuel is bad for carb bikes”. Ran some seafoam through it and it cleared up the gunk or varnish and I was able to adjust all four pilot jets. I run about 4oz of seafoam every other tank full and always when the bike sits for some time. Knock on wood this has worked for me now since I’ve had the bike going on five years. Best of luck and again very nice Kawi!!

Yeah, I also have a K5 Bandit 1200 in my stable and it doesn't like ethanol much more than my ZRX. In the age of E10+, you really gotta stay on top of carbureted motorcycles. Cheers.

Nice job! When I was making my last bike purchase, I was trying to decide between the ZRX and the Bonnie (just re-introduced back then). Once I saw a photo of the then-upcoming T100, the decision was made (Centenary Edition), but when my brother let me ride one of his ZRX's I wished I had one of those too! My T100 doesn't seem to like ethanol either, at least I think that's the culprit in the spitting it does at idle (runs ok otherwise); I also ditched the airbox on it, got rid of the secondary air injectors, mounted the Triumph accessory performance mufflers (not for road use! haha), did a few other things. Are you planning to drop some ZX cams in that beast? Were I able to afford it I might look for a nice used one (though truthfully I'd likely be more tempted by a used Diavel, most outrageous bike I've ever ridden; talk about a bike that makes you giggle!)
@shreedevi2005
@shreedevi2005 7 жыл бұрын
Congrats. The ZRX is a monster of a bike. Too bad that ethanol is so widespread these days that it's getting harder to find ethanol free fuel. Are there any additives that can neutralize the ethanol?

I got some bad gas In My 2003 ZRX1200R . I tried cleaners and octane booster that helped for a little while ,But then it still flooded my airbox and my crankcase full of gas.. I drained that out and put fresh oil in it. I’m gonna put a new petcock valve on it and try to get it running again or at least running good enough to get it to the shop . Maybe there was water or something in the gas. I always use premium, but the gas station that I got the bad gas from doesn’t have much motorcycle customers. Maybe their premium gas is old or has water in it. It’s frustrating,she was running great before the bad gas. I figured out how to drain the bowls but I can only reach 2 of them, gotta get a longer allen to reach the other 2. I was gonna put new fuel lines but it looks like a confusing spaghetti of lines and hoses. Hopefully I can get my green machine rolling again this spring.
@TimKreitzAdventures
@TimKreitzAdventures 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, getting to the carbs or removing them with the stock airbox and boots in place is a huge pain. Good luck with getting the bike rolling again!
@aikidragonpiper71
@aikidragonpiper71 5 жыл бұрын
@@TimKreitzAdventures I did have a Two Brothers slip on pipe but it was popping bad without a jetkit. I did buy a jet kit with 3 different jet size but it cost more to install it than the kit cost. Several years ago they wanted $65 per carb. So right now i have the stock pipe but I still have a K&N air filter but still in the stock airbox. I was told the float needles sticking or petcock valve can cause the gas to flood the case. If could afford it I'd pay someone to rip that airbox out and all the unnecessary hoses and lines and trick it out.

I actually took the carbs to a friends house who is a retired motorcycle mechanic so I could use certain tools I don't have in my shop such as jet drills, float gauges, etc. It's always good to have two sets of eyes on a job like this, too, because there are so many tiny parts that can be misplaced or put in backwards during the rebuild process.

Further power up! ! It's amazing. You are a very good mechanic! :) I enjoyed the landscape of your background with two cameras. The sun looked very beautiful. Kawasaki's motorcycle, unlike Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha There are few shops that can be repaired in Japan. Therefore, it is a motorcycle that you need to maintain yourself. Not that I've found. I used to be able to get it all the time, but over the past three or four years it has become really scarce in these parts. America's mandatory ethanol laws are among the worst scams ever played on the public.

Wow! Ethanol has been a choice here for maybe the past 10 years as E10 (10% Ethanol blend) but there are still only 1 in 4 pumps maybe that have it and I don't know of anyone that uses it in their bikes. Or cars for that matter. E85 is also available but not common and is used as the fuel of choice for the V8 Supercar series.

Oh My ! How did your bike end up running so poorly before you repaired it? Did it sit for years on end without using it? I bought my REX new in 2002. I have 46,000 miles on the clock and it runs as good as it did the day I bought it. Every winter, while it joins my mothball fleet, I start the bike once a month and let it run for 10 to 15 minutes. This makes it easy to start in the spring and always keeps fairly fresh fuel in the carbs. I run regular gas and have never ever had an issue with the power train. I hear other riders that have issues so I know it's not just your bike. But for me, my REX has been the most dependable bike I have ever owned. Barry
@TimKreitzAdventures
@TimKreitzAdventures 5 жыл бұрын
We don't mothball our bikes here because winters are mild and we ride year-round. Here in the desert, ethanol fuels cause problems with older engines, especially on days above 110º when there is an excessive concentration or phase separation. That was the case with my bike.

Usually you have to go to the coast and buy marine fuel. There was 1 outside where I used to live in SC, but it usually cost $1-2 more per gallon

Love the ZRX1200R. Have had three (one was an 1100) in the past 12 years. BTW, since the comments are disabled for your Z900RS video review (kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXqqpXaqZp6iiKc) I just wanted to say I appreciate your honesty and understand your frustration with some of the really inappropriate and negative feedback. I'm actually going to test ride the Z900RS tomorrow at a Kawasaki Demo Ride Event in PA. I owned a 2018 Z900 for a few months and really enjoyed almost everything about it, but found the suspension to be God-awful hard and wanted something a little softer and easier on the bumps while maintaining composure. That is the idea behind looking at the RS. We'll see how I feel about it. Personally, I'm not focusing so much on the "retro" aspects of it, but I'm more interested in how well it performs and handles the everyday mixed road conditions and bumps. For close to $4000 more than the Z900 it better really impress me or I too may back out of buying it. LOL

Wow, I have an 01' and it doesn't care if I use ethanol fuel (10%) It's been fine for 13 years now.

It's been doing a lot better with ethanol-laced fuel over the past few years since I did this mod. I've also been riding it on the regular since, which helps too.

Tim..ethanol is cyanide for bikes (and many small motors). If you haven't seen it, there is a web site, and better yet, an app called pure gas , that shows dealers of non- ethanol fuel.www.pure-gas.org

Yeah, I used to have it bookmarked, but there are no more stations in my town selling ethanol-free fuel. It's been that way for several years now, unfortunately. Thanks for the link, though! :-)

I wish I could say the same. All my problems started when E10 was forced upon us out here. Much better since these mods, though. I'm also using some marine fuel treatment which I think has helped.

Nothing likes ethanol, you just have to build it so it will tolerate it:)
