I love how the anchor trolley offers me the ability to anchor my kayak in the position needed for the conditions I am fishing at that time. One thing I always do while using the trolley system (pin or anchor) ,is to rig up a quick one hand safety release . I use this in both skinny water and deep water. If you hook up with a large fish or a boat goes by and you find your self in a situation where you have to maneuver your kayak to keep from being flipped over this "quick one hand release " system will save you and your gear from possibly being dumped in the water.

I just got my kayak and I'm new but I want to customize it of course and first thing I want is an anchor system. A quick release anchor is what I want for the exact reasons you said. Good job. I installed an anchor trolley on my Perception Prescador 10 3 years ago. Love it. I use a 3lb grappling anchor or a shoreline brush clip. Clip to scrub on the shore and let the wind blow you out. Use your trolley to position for where you want to cast. I made a retractable anchor line out of a 50' clothes line rewound with paracord. One of my favorite mods.

A pole is a pretty good idea. The side trolly is a poor design unless it goes all the way from stern to bow. Most guys don understand anchoring and the forces of currents, wind, waves and wakes all four are the kayakers business or undoing.

IYO…. What length pin is a good all around length? Have seen some that are around 6 and others around 8. My son wants one but his yak is only 9 feet. Thinking 8 feet might be over kill but don’t know.

Tie your anchor line to the nose of your anchor, then run the line up the side to the rear of it, and zip tie it with a 25lb rated wire tie. If your anchor gets stuck, yank hard and snap the zip tie. Now you are pulling your anchor by the nose, and it will become unstuck quickly.

The rope comes with a loop at the end that slides onto the pin. Or you can use a slip knot to attach any other line to it.

no, there is usually this weird cleat thing near the cockpit, you wrap the line around that to hole it into place. I roof load my kayak upside down with the trolley just fine.

This only works in 5ft or less of water. Thats why an anchor is better. You can tie an anchor to this trolley system and it would work the same except you can go to deeper water.

8ft of water. Poles come in 6, 8 or longer. A lot of Florida kayak fishing is in the flats but yes an anchor is also good. It just depends on the type of fishing you do. I never need an anchor cause where I fish water isn’t more than 7 ft deep. It’s good to have options tho. Tight lines 🎣
