Join me on an adventure near Sudbury, Ontario, as I explore a stunning lake that's been on my radar for some time. After a rough drive through back roads and narrow bridges, I finally reach the lake, hoping for an unoccupied spot to launch my kayak. Fortunately, I find a serene island complete with a campsite and even some furniture - not my favourite idea but it didn't stop me from taking advantage of it.
Setting out again on my kayak, I navigate through the calm waters, hugging the shores and eventually stumbling upon a secluded gap between two small islands. It's the perfect spot to test out my new kayak, despite the inevitable scratches it will endure. As I pause to reflect on my journey and the marks on my kayak, I realize each scratch tells a story of exploration and resilience.
While some may see scratches as flaws, I embrace them as badges of honour, representing the challenges I've overcome and the places I've discovered. As I conclude my adventure, I'm reminded that scratches are an inevitable part of my explorations - and I wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks for joining me on this journey, and until next time, happy paddling!

Looks like a great day to go kayaking. I agree with you, scratches are memories and I'd rather have those then a pristine kayak. Plus, I think it's kind of like a new car - maybe that first scratch brings some anxiety, but then after you get that first one you don't care as much anymore. Really nice that you found that little camping spot and got to sit in the chair and relax.

Yes, the first one is always the worst one but after that, it gets a lot better! That campsite was really a pleasant surprise. Thanks for watching and for your comments!

First like! Wow! Another awesome video, Daryl. I agree that scratches, nicks and dents etc. are memories - if not each individual one, them certainly the bunch of them. That looked absolutely wonderful. And I've said it a million times already, it feels like, but my Monday mornings are made SO much better by these little trips home! Thanks, and congrats on the new boat!

Awesome to see you out on the new kayak! Love the extra storage space. It must be fun to be out on the water. I have an inflatable boat. We stay close to shore too for the same reasons. Loved all the drone shots in this one, too. Man, what an awesome island campsite! It's hard to avoid those first scratches! Love that you think of them as souvenirs of your travels. Thanks for the awesome video.

Thanks for the great open water video. The more scratches you have, the more adventures you've been on and the more memories you have, which is a good thing in my book. I'd love to join you the next time you plan to go paddling. We can even use my canoe and you'll have a lot more space to carry all your stuff, including a comfy chair. And it has scratches, lots of scratches!!!

Yes, I was really surprised at the capacity. I got the model with the really large opening which makes it easier for me to get in and out of, but it's so big I can't reach the water bottle in front of me, it's too far away. 🤔 Thanks for visiting and your continued support.

Exciting to have a new Kayak! Have you ever gone for an overnight? We haven't, but it sure sounds fun! Beautiful lake, great that you got to go end to end. I'm sure we'd stay by the shore too, the wind can pick up and really blow you around... I bet the water is super cold this time of year... wouldn't want to go for a surprise swim- lol. Well, you've initiated your kayak now, added a few scratches, like breaking in a new pair of shoes :) Beautiful scenery in Sudbury!! - Jen
@flynorthprod
@flynorthprod Ай бұрын
Thanks Jen. Yes, the water was very cold but I still had to step in it a few times during the trip; thankfully the warm sun helped keep my feet from getting cold. One of the reasons I bought the bigger kayak is so I could do an overnighter out somewhere, I just have to do some planning. Thanks so much for watching! ~ Daryl

I am definitely on 'team practical' for this one. I never deliberately try to punish my gear - but I am never reluctant to fully use it either. Scratches do not bother me in the least. If they did, I would never dare to go to the places that I do. Your new kayak looks very stable and spacious and appears to track beautifully - although that could be due to the skilled operator. :p You appeared to have that entire lake to yourself! What a perfect setting for your first paddle of the season. And it also appeared to be black fly free!? I was glad to see that you managed to not lose your paddle despite the forgotten tether - although that could have made for an ‘interesting’ side story :p. I love the shot at 4:19 that beautifully showcases this lovely little lake. You are indeed fortunate to have such pristine places so close to your doorstep. Cheers! - Trevor.
@flynorthprod
@flynorthprod Ай бұрын
Hi Trevor. It was the skeg; definitely not the operator, that contributed to the good tracking! 😅 Yes, no mosquitoes and very few blackflies, so I was lucky. I liked that shot too - I find the drone is really a very useful instrument for helping capture these experiences. Thanks as always for watching and I really appreciate your feedback. Take care. ~ Daryl
