If it wasn't for seeing the fight on video and knowing that was a monster on the end of the line, some would say you're telling a fish tail. I know from experience and seeing many big fish getting caught that it had to be a golly whopper tugging like that line. Sorry for luck but the show must go on. Go land another one.

Also, I have many opportunities to catch skipjack, crappie, or bluegill in the Ohio River in my area (near Pittsburgh), but they're hard to catch decent bait unless you're really targeting them. Years ago I watched an old man catch a channel kitty that was bigger than him, and I even had a friend who was a local diver who quit his job when he dove down in our local stretch of the Ohio and he came face to face with a catfish that was as big as a Volkswagen Beetle...😂😂😂 But I have seen them that large, so I can't cast dispersions on his decision...😂😂😂 Edit: He quit back in 2004 when the remnants of Hurricane Ivan moved through our area and extremely flooded our entire area and even overran our local electric dam by feet.

@ericl2969 Жыл бұрын
When the line rubs on the fish's body, slime rubs off the fish and onto the line. Same thing happens with big channel cats. Where I live, channel cats are commonly 12 to 15 pounds (and they get much bigger), and fish of that size often have marks on their body where the line wrapped around and rubbed on them, and the line ends up being coated with thick slime. I'm guessing it must not happen so much with flatheads, based on how Justin said he knew this one was a blue because of the slime on the line.

Ok i don't usually comment ( not a hater ) actually like what you do and how you do it. I fish the James and the Chickahominy riv. For blues. Hate seeing you lose these bigger fish . Iknow you use circle hooks ( use on all my big fish endeavors ( blue cats,, cobia ,, red drum) lov the circle . It looks to me on your videos that you are using what we call a POINT INLINE CIRCLE hook . Give some thought to POINT OFFSET CIRCLE HOOK . I had the same/ similar issues with big cobia using a POINT INLINE CIRCLE ( 20 yrs ago) change to the POINT OFFSET CIRCLE HOOK ) haven't had a single non hookup fight with a large fish since the change . TIGHT LINES & SCREAMING REELS to you

One of the worst feelings ever is losing a big fish. Doesnt matter if its a catfish, bass, crappie, or any species for that matter. Makes u wanna throw up lol. Or it does me anyways. By the way that thing was pulling, and staying glued to the bottom, you definitely had a golly whopper. You will get an even bigger one though better long. I got faith in ya 🙂

Spray your bait with WD-40 and you’ll catch more big blues and catch them faster when you use it. There is nothing in WD-40 that will hurt the fish or the environment.
