Kayla, your success is due in a large part to your art. However, the biggest contributor to your success is you! You are real, approchable, kind, loving and believable. I too am an artist, but I am not doing what you are doing. I do art first because I need to express myself and secondly, I do things to share my love for humanity. I am not a great artist, but I am real and have fun. I note one of the other comments are from a person who is 73 and good for her. I will be 83 in January and am cheering you on. I can bet you love your child dearly because of the challenges you have faced. Jimm Hughey, CA

Sometimes, an artwork will mean something else to a buyer. That's fine. You don't always have to explain. If an artwork resonates with them, that's a wonderful thing! But it is comforting to just paint and not feel that you have to hustle with classes, prints, etc. Great advice!

Very inspiring! I’ve been a licensing artist for quite a few years and have been doing okay, but there’s a lot of room for improvement when it comes to selling my art directly to customers. I’ve struggled with longterm consistency and with putting myself out there being an introvert who absolutely hates being in front of a camera. But you make some very valuable points in this video… I’m definitely going to be trying to work on that in 2025!

OMG! I am so happy my friend turned me on to this video! That's me totally! I do a lot of commission work and I paint and do woodworking and now I started doing resin! I need to take a good hard look and focus. I just so much enjoy so many things. I have loved art ever since I could pick up a crayon and color. I am now 67! I just can't thank you enough for this video! I am just so scared to do a video and have no idea how. But maybe it's something I need to seriously think about. Thank you!!! Sunny

NUMBER 5!!! that’s exactly what I’m going through right now! I can confidently say I am excellent at what I do but I am spreading myself so thin…. Selling prints, wanting to design clothing, stickers, murals, art course, KZbin. So I decided once I get back from my maternity break I will concentrate on simply painting! No teaching, no classes… simply paint…

Kayla I have to say you are my biggest inspiration and it is because of you that I'm here, just about ready to post my first video. I've been painting and selling my work for over 20 years now. Like you, I started with all the outdoor shows and markets. Because I loved to paint "everything" I worked with a publisher and created poster art. It was a different world back then lol. Galleries sold well for me but took 50% . I've experienced burnout a few times. Now at 67 I'm learning to record, edit and get my channel up and running. Your video convinced me that I am the content 😊 I'm so very happy that you are riding this high with your beautiful paintings ❤

What a great video! I agree with the point about knowing the artist. My husband and I have purchased a few paintings from a local artist. We always feel good about buying from her not only because we love her paintings but also because we love her fun, friendly personality. Another friend spent some time painting on ceramics. She would have a Christmas sale with a few other artists. We would all be anxious to see her whimsical work and would be disappointed when someone else beat us to a favourite item. Whenever I see the items I did manage to buy, I am reminded of her and that makes them all the more special. I also think that a consistent style is important. It's like a novelist - people want to know that a particular writer will write a certain kind of story. Many of them even write a series of books with a main cast of characters that you get attached to. I'm glad you mentioned how much time and work it took for you to perfect your technical skill. Some people think becoming a successful artist is easy. Anyway, enough said. Time to hit the subscribe button.

I went to an art high school where EVERYBODY was an artists. Already in 10th, 11th and Senior we had artists painting like Kayla, but we were also sculpting, carving, inking, etc... I love Kayla's art i think it's super cool but because the artists that i was exposed to already before graduating from high school I'm not impressed or think she is superbly talented. She came at an age where exposure is easy to all and she is cute and very likeable. The difference of her success, which she earned, is the platform. I mean... I can go to Thailand right now and get about twenty Pattaya painters that can do any of her paintings if a show them a photo... but they don't have the platform.

Excellent advice, we all need to become excellent at what we do and let's face it, for an artist that means years of dedication and focus before you'll get there. Too many people call themselves artists these days but don't want to put in the time needed to become excellent at what they do. True art takes expertise, skill and knowledge. To get there you need discipline, perseverance and focus.

I have been doing artwork since I was 5 years old. I really was pretty good at it' I did landscapes Portraits and horses. I won 9th place in a field of 3000 or more of a horse and a colt when I was 15. I drew nudes and sold them in the Navy and even after I was out of the service, then I changed when I entered college and did a lot of pottery and Oils, but never did I get a lot of money. I gave most of mine away as gifts. I wish even though I am 77 now, I still would love to get popular like you. I am now getting into pour paintings, and wish I could learn to be like you.

Thank you for the advice. I get to know the manager or owner of a business. I don't show art, I just show up with my sketch pad. It was busy once and a drawing of mine was secretly being drawn. I was in the back area and some dude saw everything. I was using 4h lead so he couldn't see what I was drawing until I started inking. Once I'm done, he comes up and tells me he had watched and was curious what it was since he couldn't see the 4H lead lol. But once it was finished he examines the picture and thinks it looks cool. Ahegao... looks awesome in person lol. I told him it was a joke for a certain person. He looks surprised and he's just like "the owner?!". I didn't know he was the owner. Still, took it and gave it to him as a joke but he liked it lol. The next day it was centered in the liquor rack... I was just laughing and every bartender said it was always getting compliments. Well it was stolen... the other two I drew and were placed in the bar as well. Also stolen... The owner gave me the thumbs up to sell my art there. (Long story but they never charge me for liquor) which makes me feel bad. So I'm making a custom for the venue with blue light and glow in the dark paint. My question. How many pieces should I make? What price do I make the drawings and what do I split with the venue? The owner of the only kratom shop in my city also gave me permission to sell my art there. Again, how many should I put up and price? There are both drawings and paintings. It's time to take those offers since my family needs money. It's time to take the offers and find other places I can put them. Advice from anyone who has done this or knows how to go about it?

You have blown me away with something that sometimes takes artists eons to learn! You are awesome and your painting idea is amazing. I am an abstract painter and I will tell you how one can improve ... I have a bad habit of reining in my arm when I paint and produce 'stiff looking' paintings rather than relaxed. Ok, I usually hate videos with titles advertising how much money artists can make as it's usually filled with lots of BS and fluff. But this was absolutely spot on with how I wanted to pursue the next chapter of my business plan. Like you read my mind, with adding a few more supporting details. I was feeling a little bad for "regressing" to a 9 to 5 for stability because trying to figure out my next source of income was draining my creative energy. At this point, I just want to do anything it takes to improve the quality of my work, even if it means not going so hard into selling my art. This video was very assuring that I am on the right track, so thank you so much for this.
