I'm taking it one step further, I've toggled off the quest helper feature so I really have to read every quest and figure out which direction to go when leaving town and what to look for to get to the quest destination. No quest markers in my playthrough. I've chosen to do that because I remember questing with only the quest text to go on was the best times I had in vanilla WoW. When I didn't know all the quests yet, it really felt like I was adventuring. So that's what I want this time around again, and I think LOTRO is pretty much my best chance at having that experience atm. It's taking a lot longer to complete quest because of all the roaming around BUT I run into so many things I didn't expect to see because of it, ADVENTURE!

I find navigating LOTRO really confusing. Sometimes the Main Quest takes me all over the map, and I can't figure out how to get from Angmar to North Downs, then to Rivendel and back again. There are fast travel points, of course, but it's not always clear how they are connected (even the map does not help), and most of the locations are locked behind VIP status.
@Domaister420
@Domaister420 Ай бұрын
The Stable Locations/Horse Travel are not locked behind the VIP Status, only fasttravel is. Getting send all over different locations is also not a lotro only thing and does not really stand out beside other valid critics. Its just due to the nature of the Story and fillerquests🤷🏻‍♂️
@arcanefeline

@@Domaister420 I've played a ton of other MMOs over almost two decades, and LOTRO's travel is the most confusing, by far. I like the game, otherwise, but this one aspect makes me want to quit, honestly. Maybe you can advise on how to use the travel system in this game?
@glennnorris5208
@glennnorris5208 Ай бұрын
There are always going to be bigger cities or main locations that serve as connections to smaller towns. Also, places like Bree are usually connected to almost all stables so if you are, for instance, trying to puzzle how to get to Evendim from the Trollshaws, then always fast travel to Bree first so that more options open up.

Started lotro with these new servers, love the game for the lore, the gameplay is kinda clunky and unfulfilling, the ui and map are horrendous. I will continue to play to finish the story, so likely have to switch to normal servers to experience the story. Gameplay and mmo wise its pretty bad. Going to treat it like a solo RPG.

Out of curiosity, is there a setting you toggled to have no fog in the Barrow Downs like that? I ask because, for whatever reason the fog in this game, and seemingly *just* the fog halves my framerate... That said, its been a few years since I last played so maybe the changed the area..?

It might because im still a low level, but the main thing that i think will be an issue for me is the gear. I personally like really cool, fantastical gear with different shapes and effects. Thats why i stuck to ff14 for so long, the gear just looks so awesome. To me what ive seen in lotro, you cant really tell the difference between a level 5 character and a level 100 character because all the gear looks kind of boring. Maybe its the age or the engine of the game? Can anyone confirm or deny this? I know its about the story but a driving factor for me is kicking butt and looking badass doing it.

I hate ffxiv because the progression is tied to the story. Sorry you cannot progress to this zone or the merchants are not available to you because you haven't finished the main quest of the expansion. In lotro you can show a middle finger to the main quest and still enjoy the game.

Another mistake, asking and acting accordingly to questions like "what is the best class in the game" "what is the best spec of (said class)" "what should I spec in", the game is a sandbox. Outside of endgame top tier raids you can spec however the hell you want, play what you want how you want, don't ask subjective questions in an attempt to min/max in lotro, it's not wow thank goodness.

Regarding LotRO points, I'd add: Take recommendations from veteran players with a grain of salt. Don't rush to purchase upgrades based on world chat. Many long time vets seem to have forgotten how much they paid for some of their favorite upgrades, or forgotten how long it took to save for them, or maybe just have a slightly skewed perspective in general. As a new player it's very easy to feel like you need to buy points so you can get the carry-alls, mount speed, vault space, enduring tools, etc etc. People will tell you these things are essential and act like they're cheap. In reality you need very little as a new player. (At least with VIP. I can't speak to the fully F2P experience.) Save the points until you have a good feel for what purchases you really want to prioritize.

This is exciting. Just found this, Already a few weeks late! No big deal. LoTRO became my escape for years during it's late vanilla/early Moria days, and I honestly think that Moria was one of the best expansions for any game I've ever played, loved it so much. Just the whole LotR world unfolding for me was so great, and you didn't feel like you had to be a "character" in the story. You were the invisible hero behind the scenes, part of the rest of the world that helped the heroe's along, and you really felt like you could just enjoy the world as it was during the path of the Fellowship. Best world building ever.

I have been playing games for years an newer hit the max level. I love doing every deed in the game. This is a paradox since i hate achievements in wow. Leveling in this game is so cool. Due to fact that this game has a difficulty slider it is refreshing and not so boring as wow. Also you do not get weaker every level, only stronger, since i haven't noticed a scaling in this game yet.
