As a resident of Kazakhstan, I see that there are a lot of misconceptions here. The Kazakh meat breed is used for consumption, no one ever sits on this horse, nothing is transported on it, and no name is given. A horse is slaughtered at the age of two years. Why are we doing this? The thing is that we were nomads and the land here is not very fertile or the summer is too short.

He said it smelled good but was afraid to try it. They wete shut down in eary 2000 because they sold the meat for human consumption

What I love about your reviews is that you keep in mind who these rations are made for. Men and women who NEED the fat and salt. When reviewers critique the contents from a "healthy diet" perspective rather than an energy/survival one, they are missing the point. Would I eat horse meat? Sure. As Americans in particular, we (or the meat lobbyists!) limit ourselves on meat choices, while there are many meats that would help keep more people fed...squirrel, rabbit, frog, more game birds, and yes, horse meat. Raising horses for meat would be no different than raising cows or pigs for meat, but we draw the line at that for some reason. Anyway...great review!

Hello, RR. It has been several years ago, when I had my only one of these rations. I thought mine had more sides and accessories? I will have to check. The only component I have not tried, is the horse. The Veg. caviar, I like. It works well, mixed into kasha as well. Oh, LOL, It is A little late to warn you, to poke A hole in lid, before boiling cans. I learned that years ago. That lesson stayed with me, as it will you as of now. The horse meat, could not be any more difficult to swallow, than that squid in ink I had. LOL. I would try it as well. Cool review friend. Peace from Ky., John. Great review.

One hack I see for this MRE is using the Apple preserves to sweeten the tea. Another is, since they must have a meal set with cooking pot of some kind and I would empty a can in it, then add about half the can of water to the pot, then bust up some of that hardtack biscuit and put in it to add some body to the canned food product and absorb some of that fat. Why? Its hardtack y'all, kind of infamous for busting teeth and no one wants that on a battle field. Also, I heard Kazakstan winters can be brutal so you need every drip of fatty grease in those cans if you hope to stay warm.

@Tricky_Adventures Жыл бұрын
Yes, better PR for horses, dogs, and cats. People eat piles of cows, pigs, chickens, fish, sheep (small amount in the US). They also often name it so you disassociate it from the animal like beef, pork, lamb.
@rvierra72353 ай бұрын
Did you guys eat your sisters horses?
@rcrawford423 ай бұрын
English doesn't have different names for the meat than the animal to "disassociate" the two. We use Anglo-Saxon words for the animal and French words for the meat thanks to the Norman invasion of 1066. The peasants were raising cattle while the nobles demanded boeuf, for example.

Stossel argues that individual self-interest, or "greed", creates an incentive to work harder and to innovate.
