@@bobmalack481yes McGuinn is a genius musician certainly. But the innovation, particular on 8 miles high, can be attributed to Crosby exposing Roger to Shankar and Coltrane. Well thats fine and dandy, but all the band menbers made musical contributions. Crosby got the heave ho from the band for his heavy handed preasure for musical direction and being stoned all the time. Oh sure, high harmonizing and rythem guitar. Uh the inovator and soul of the Byrds is Roger Mcguinn. You need to do a little research, how old are you? Crosby did not even impact CS&N that much. Crosby got the boot from the Byrds for a few reasons. That 12 string Rickenbacher guitar is part of Mcquinn's signature sound imput, and heavely influenced Tom Petty's singing sound. I.E. I Pass for 52/55 and never a dull moment with 30/40 somethings.
