I have so much disdain for Square Enix, and having not played Mana before, this just adds to it. Like, the director of Dragon Quest was ready to quit because Square wouldn't let Yoko Taro make a new game, and that game became Nier: Automata, because they didn't see him as a cash cow basically. Even though the reason every single one of his games suffered was because they cut the games hard. Drakengard 1 was supposed to be on 2 discs, Nier was missing a plethora of content that got put into books, Drakengard 3 happened after Sqenix disolved Cavia and then gave Taro a new team that he didn't fully know and he just did whatever. The thing holding great games from Squenix back is Squenix. Nier got lucky, but you look at their "revival" of Legacy of Kain, and you see how much effort they really put into giving a damn about not Final Fantasy games.

To be fair Square Enix has also given chances to things like Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler, and has given a lot of love to The World Ends With You surprisingly enough, so I wouldn't say they don't give a damn about anything not Final Fantasy. Moreso they have their cash cow and then experiment seemingly at random on the side. Kind of reminds me of Cartoon Network now that I think about it.

Thanks for remembering the mana series. The mana series specifically Legend of Mana is what got me into loving RPGs and is still to this day my favorite game. Playing a game, as a 12 years old kid, so many times and always with different outcomes helped me cope with bullying at school. Video games in general helped me through such a difficult phase of my childhood. And for that Legend of Mana still has a special place in my heart. I currently have a ps3, which is always plugged and ready to be used, I call it my mana console. I have it because I bought ps store version of Legend of Mana. I hope it is ported to current gen consoles and more with the trials of mana remake being so good.

I frigging LOVE Legend of Mana and it's art direction and Character designs! It's one of my favorite game universes just for how unique settings and character designs and it's Music by Yoko Shimomura is breathtaking. If someone asked me "If your live was a game what is your hometown song?" I would always answer with either "Domina" Or "Places of Soul". Dawn was... kinda pretty but I found the levels hard to maneuver and it didn't really have a flow...Mostly from the "Do a level, get a cutscene" thing. I do remember wishing I could find a Dawn of Mana Manga that could string the plot better like Legend of Mana had. I feel like Children of Mana's BIGGEST flaw were that the dungeons where just.... super long and monotonous! ANd that's bad coming from me, a person who LOVES Dark Cloud! Who has maxed out their in game timer on Dark Cloud prolly 15 DIFFERENT TIMES! WHo has beaten the Demon Shaft Dungeon like 10 TIMES! There just wasn't much fun about the Dungeons of Children of Mana and about a teaspoon of story. I liked the Gem Grid as a level up system though! And the Artwork was lovely! Ooof Heroes of Mana.... Not gonna lie I skipped that one for 2 main reasons. 1.) I don't like 'Tactics' games like FFT and Fire Emblem. Not good at them. Don't have fun. And 2.) LITERALLY what KBash said in the video it looked like they were just copying FFT's artstyle! I did not likey, even Magical Starsign looked more like a Mana game than Heroes! In fairness I also loved Sword of Mana. Sure it was a remake and it was silly but it was a pretty one and I got to play the First mana game one way or another. I WAS SO DISAPOINTED WITH FRIENDS OF MANA AS IT WAS SET IN THE LEGEND OF UNIVERSE BUT... It was a Japan Exclusive Phone game... I didn't even OWN a cell phone when that game came out. I do remember WISHING that it would get a port like KH:ReCoded did to a handheld non-phone console but... never did. Mana used to be so distincted and unique. I would argue it was FUN. Even modern Final Fantasy games feel like they lost that element of High fantasy stupid fun. Had Mana just stayed on course I could have returned to the world of Racist Rabbits, Pirate Penguins, Minstrels being turned into Birds, Failing to hand out all the Leaflets... it was a fun world. But for some reason Square just ditched those fun imaginative stories for... What? A quick buck?

@JPG8164 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on what kind of gamer you are. If you're looking to be challenged, you're going to be sorely disappointed. The mana series has a big problem with "I win" strategies. In Secret of Mana, it was magicking bosses to death. In this, it's the stunlocking of bosses. :/ It's still better than Secret of Mana's, especially if you choose not to stunlock-chain since it does take some timing and conscious effort to do, but yeah, this is not "Dark Souls" (sorry for that cliched reference, but I figure that's the best way to put it here). However, if you enjoy exploration, or enjoy games as an interactive experience, or enjoy a good story (series of stories? whatever), Legend of Mana is easily one of Square's finest. I would elaborate, but the graphics speak for themselves. The dialogue is charming AF. And it's gushing with love. The crafting mechanics are deep to the point of being somewhat bloaty - but it's not a bad bloat. Which is subjective, but let me just say that even if I was creating a horribly unnecessary nuking magical instrument, I still wanted to do it darn it! Just because I could! A FAQ on gamefaqs for any given mechanic is easily the size of a walkthrough for another game, ESPECIALLY blacksmithing which is ungodly complicated. I still don't 'get' it today, so arguably that's the bad bloat, but it's a minor problem. If I had to fix one thing with the game, I would make it so that the higher difficulty settings didn't feel like 'oh we just gave the enemies more HP and slightly more attack power' and made the enemies significantly more aggressive and quick.
@zaphero55183 жыл бұрын
@@JPG816 Oh turns out enemy aggressiveness was dropped in localization to the US, and the Remaster undid that. It has US stats (and stat typos) overall but the enemies will always be more aggressive than the original US release.

Children of Mana was my introduction to the series and I actually have a lot of fond memories of it. I really liked all the enemy and character designs. That said, yeah, it definitely didn't make me go out of my way to check out the games that came before. The only other contemporary Mana game I had easy access to was Heroes and I didn't like RTS (still don't). The only other Mana experience I had, for years, was an emulated copy of Sword of Mana, which I really liked too. I'm glad they eventually came out with the Collection of Mana, because it enabled me to play the golden times of the series. The hunch that I'd like it based on what little I played before was right. Yeah, but cover Trails of Cold Steel. Everyone loves the Sky series, but I always liked Cold Steel for the way they continuously tell a pretty good, very interesting story and you see some fledgling class of idiots turn into literal wartime generals and shit. Pretty sweet.

For those of you looking to play Legend of Mana with a friend online, you can use an emulator and something like Parsec to simulate two-player input remotely. It works pretty well.

The Jumi Storyline is one of the best ones I've seen in games in this era honestly. I bawled like a kid during the end cutscene of that story

Man played so much when I was younger, finally did every quest a couple years ago. Wish the world backstory books were unlockable in one playthrough, everything start to make a lot more sense with you read that (not everything though). Gotta love the OST too, Nostalgic Song, Hometown Domina and Diddle´s Organ are some of the highlights for me

I literally just started playing this Legend of Mana with my sister. I picked it up because I love Secret of Mana, and this thing is insane. It's hardly an RPG. It's a full-blown adventure. We sat down with a notepad and wrote down the Dubear speak, babbling like idiots the whole time. I adore my little cactus, which I've named Antonio. Playing the organ in the church is always a delight. I wish the series could've continued to have such heart.
@ablationer4 жыл бұрын
I like the fact that everytime you start a new game, you have a 50/50 chance to either be good or terrible at playing the organ the whole game. It has no bearing on anything else, it's just kind of a neat random little touch.

I picked up legend of mana for literally 3 dollars at a blockbuster when I was 10. The cover was disheveled and I knew absolutely nothing about the series. Till this day Legend of Mana is my favorite jrpg of all time, I cannot tell you how happy I am to see other people enjoy it for what it is. Going through each world with no expectation or idea of what was going on is still one of the best gaming experiences I ever had.
