just a word to the wise. If you're going to fit your heater like this please make sure you seal both the holes with a sealant that will withstand the temperature of the exhaust, otherwise there is a small risk of carbon monoxide coming in to the van

I'd like to follow your lead on the studs, but I agree it'd be best to seal up the floor well. Any products/ideas about how to go about this?

What sealant would you recommend? I found VITCAS Heat Resistant SILICONE (300°c) of VITCAS Heat Resistant Sealant Sealant (1300 °C). I would assume the silicone version would stay more flexible and water proof/air tight. But I'm not quite sure to be honest. Love your videos and humour.

Karl, I took my tank out of my Trafic 2.1 Diesel, two straps, about 4 hours of toil and labour loosening bolts. My god, it was so hard. GUYS... this isn't EASY. Karl makes it look so easy, bringing down that fuel tank, but this is a seriously big job even on a modern vehicle. Its just a huge amount of effort getting underneath and doing it all on your back. Respect Karl! On another note, I have my plastic fuel tank under the rear 'box seat' in my renault trafic camper. It is very safe and totally closed in. Good solution. One word on these chinese heaters though.... replace that shitty green pipe with PROPER FUEL PIPE> ESSENTIAL!!!1

I just done mine into the tank as i didn't want the smell filling another tank inside the van else you got to fill the supplied kit tank every week in the winter. If you have a citroen relay , peugeot boxer, Fiat or other clone van you can access the tank under a flap under the passenger seat. Its a really tight space to work in so i took out the driver's seat. Much easier to gain access, Remove all the wires and pipes first. Thoroughly clean the cap before taking it off else you get shit in the tank and if that gets to the engine then big problems. Lift the sender almost out stuff hole with a big clean rag. Drill a 4mm hole in cap, clean the swarf bits carefully and push pipe through its a tight fit and cable tie to engine pickup tube, I sealed it to be sure with blob of JB weld on top of the tank lid so thats not coming out. Make sure the sender is secure in the right place there is a notch it drops in to and make sure the sealing gland is perfect flat. Be careful not to cross thread the cap. Yes its hassle but its worth doing :)

Yay, mount the heater slightly above the floor so as to run the deisel pipe inside the van rather than outside! (...I would have though of that).

Just in the middle of a fit now. Checking how everyone has done it! I think the plate needs to be sealed so that the exhaust is completely seperate from the inside. Also my exhaust box has a little drain hole in the joint (opposite the attachment point) so I think it needs to be be with the joint vertical not horizontal so you do not get a puddle in there. L bracket came with mine.

Hi Karl. I did the connection of the diesel line much more easy (but failed in the first). I used a 3 way hose connector in the low pressure line (left side, between tank and wheel). First i used the high pressure line (VWT6): that was a night mare😂😂😂😂😂. Something else: if you drill the opening to the floor in a T6, be very careful: there is a electronic housing you can hit!!!! Located between the steel sheet and the heat reflector of the exhaust.

Thanks for this Karl, very useful, I've got a Webasto factory heater installed in my T5 which is great, but it does have its limitations so I've been thinking about installing one of these Chinese ones for a while - I've already dropped the tank once when fitting the RnR bed so know what a pain it is and wish I'd thought to install a secondary heater at the same time!!!

Question… the intake pipe through the floor is for sucking fresh air into the heater? So what’s the outlet at other end of the heater to where the hot air is pumped out for?

Just don't try that with a chinese heater non of the PCB's are water resistant unlike the expensive brand heaters which are epoxy encapsulated modules.

the diesel heater to save time and effort run the heater fuel line in to the engine bay put a T in the fuel line after the diesel filter and before the engine diesel pump so their is no need for the extra filter becouse in the van would last loner ans easier to maintain
@KBeadle
@KBeadle 4 жыл бұрын
yeah I did wonder about that but I'd read something about the vans fuel line being pressurised or sommat so I didn't want to risk it. Is the something you have done on a T6?

@@KBeadle i haven't its just way i would have gone i'll look it up now didn't know it was Pressurised befour the filter but you also put pressure regulator to bring it back down
@UberAlphaSirus
@UberAlphaSirus 4 жыл бұрын
Some you can some you can't. Almost all new fuel systems have in tank pumps, so the line is pressurised all the way from the tank. Looks like Karl's is like that. A mk6 transit say, has a mechanical pump driven by the engine like a distributor is on a petrol, so there is only a tiny bit of pipe going to the fuel rail that's pressurised. I suppose you could T off the return as long as the return line hits the bottom of the tank so your not sucking air, but then it might confuse trip computers, pressure regs and evap systems and in the long run might be a right pain in the arse diagnosing an engine fault.

Besides the editing and camera work in these video's being astounding, your music collection is also very very good. I usually don't ask the name of the songs in video's bc I don't want to be "that guy", so let alone wanting to ask for the name of the songs in 2 consecutive video's from a very very underrated KZbinr.. ps. luckily this one WAS actually on shazam! 😜
