I think the girl is being rather selfish, she may think she is an adult now that she is 20 but the way she is behaving; she seems more like an immature child.
@sidesideful6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree with u. I feel like a lot of people think that adult-ing is about having freedom at a certain age, being independent. But no, becoming older and being mature does not mean, "oh, I don't need my parents, I can take care of myself". Being mature means being able to take care of oneself, then others, parents, maybe even friends, and also, tbh, learning to take a step back and rely on others as well. Growing up is not all about providing providing. At the same time, it also means that we also have to learn to how to rely on others, asking for help when we realize we need it, allowing others to help us as well. We have to learn to see the full picture of developing relationships, romantic, platonic, friends or fam. If we see that growing up is being independent, all about the self, then ... you're not quite there yet.
@Faith-zv9xr6 жыл бұрын
Ri'AikaCröw you're acting like anyone under the age of 25 is completely irrational and incapable of making decisions. whilst the age of 25 is when the brain stops developing, and is when your decision making is fully developed, you actually start developing abstract thinking and hypothetical reasoning at the age of 12, meaning that at the age of 18 most people are more than capable of consenting to having sex and knowing how much is safe to drink (smoking's just fucking rank lmao). alcoholics don't start drinking at 18 when their brains aren't fully developed, then at the age of 25 immediately cut back because their brains are mature and they've suddenly realised alcoholism is bad. also, i love how you act as if having sex at 18 is scandalous when it's literally the most natural thing in the world.

i think she knows that she wont be able to live like this ever again , she knows what she wants to do, start a cafe and all. After all she is going to be the income source for the family since the mom cant work and they have no dad and her sister will most likely go to college which. Also i didnt like the mums attitude when the girl said she would finish hs she just acted like that wouldnt happen. she should have more faith in her daughter and argue with her less at this rate she is only pushing her daughter who was bullied her whole life into weird clubs where she needs to talk with strange men to feel acceptance
@parmin87206 жыл бұрын
sidesideful i agree. When you are an adult it gets so much worse. When i was 11 i even prepared myself for the mental breakdowns in college ill have at 3:00 am. There is no freedom. The mom should just not let her in the house, or just get her a dorm
@teresc31815 жыл бұрын
She wants to be treated like an adult, that's fine. Then she should act like one. And that doesn't mean being able to go out to drink and stay out as much as she wants, but to be independent and be responsible for her actions and its consequences...

In Korea, it can be difficult to get your own place if you don't have the money. A lot of apartments require you to pay a "key money" deposit, which is usually around 2 years' equivalent of the rent. So, if the rent was 500 dollars a month, she would have to pay a key deposit of around 12,000. Another option is living in a goshiwon but with her not being able to find a job, I doubt she'd have the money to afford that either.

Aww, didn't realize. Also, I think the minimum wage over there is around $7. :O Maybe she should try to get several part-time jobs and save up very very slowly. We can't get anywhere without hard work. However in her case, I don't think it's physical hard work she needs to work on. I think she needs to work on her emotional needs. I think she's avoiding the guilt of facing her family that she's so useless. She had originally wanted to look for a job. So I think she needs to put in the effort to be courageous and live with her family again and learn to accept her family's love despite all she's done.

aHHHH this story reminds me of my story.. my older sister passed away almost 9 months ago due to this problem. But my sister was a little different. My sister worked almost everyday just to help my family pay for rent, wifi, food, clothes almost everything. She also liked to go out with her friends and drink. My mom didn't like it so they would always argue. In July of last year, my sister got mad at my mom for lecturing her and ran out the house. She never came home and my family lost her.. I just want to say, going out with your friends is fine but don't stay out for days. You never know what will happen. The thing I can relate to is that this is me and my sisters age. She's 20 and I'm in 9th grade like her sister so this really breaks my heart..
@sidesideful6 жыл бұрын
Aww, I'm sorry to hear, I'm sorry for your loss. I hope your mother doesn't blame herself. It's not anyone's fault. Accidents happen. Things happen. Life happens. It must be very tough for you and your family. But no matter what, instead of being sad thinking of your sister's passing, allow this to be an extra reminder to work hard. I'm sure your sister wouldn't want to see you and your family sad and fall apart over this. This might be too soon to say, but I know, that when you get older, things will get better. Things will always work out in the end, for sure. I know you will try very hard in life bc of what you've experienced in your life. I believe everything happens for a reason, and your sis did not die in vain. Continue to stay positive and support your parents as well, emotionally if not financially, be loving, patient, and understanding. I believe in you :)

I went through some similar situation, like you folks. Best I can say is, try to see it from a different perspective and stay strong, it might feel like suffering but you can learn a lot from it. Some parents are strict for a reason, maybe it was their education or the way they see things, you might not understand, but you can't change that. Absorb the good things, take a deep breath and move on, once you get older you'll be grateful for good part of it. Toodeloo

WTF. She's the worst. Everybody gets yelled at by their parents. Argue, being compared with siblings or friends by their parents. She should have understood her mom. I think Its just her mom was just having a hard time thinking what she could do to give her kids a better life stressing and everything. She doesnt have a husband to rely on, so as a result she easily gets angry at everything. We as their children should understand our parents. I was fuming mad when she said that she doesnt want to go home because she do not want to argue with her mom. Like WTF dude Your mom is helpless you should have helped her instead on doing stupidity.

I understand her to an extent. I mean... she's completely of age now and can do anything she wants! HOWEVER, as long as she's under her mother's roof, she should be more responsible. Now that she's also an adult, she should talk it out with her mom. I don't think she should stop going out 100% but she needs to find a healthy balance with work, school, family, and friends. It might be hard at first, especially since she's at that age where she wants to just go out and have fun, but I think that with time she will realize. Some people NEED to learn the hard way, so they won't make the same mistakes again. My mom is always begging me to go out with friends 😂😂 The great thing is that when i do want to go out, she doesn't mind. She said "as long as you go to school and work, I don't mind when you go out. just come back at the time that you promise to". My parents are divorced too, and I live with my mom. I hope that she learns how to manage her time, so her relationship with her mother will be fine too. She should consider herself lucky, I'm sure there are other people her age who don't have a parent around who looks out for them the way this mom does.

Im not sure about laws in Korea, but in the Netherlands, parents are still responsible for their child until they turn 21. Tbh she can go out all night long, but as long she lives under someone else's roof, living off of someone else's money, she should follow the rules more.

Looking at the comment section I think I realized that some people don't understand that not everyone is from the US or the rich countries in Europe, not everyone has the money to move out because in some countries it's harder to get a job that pays enough to pay the rent than to win on lotto. In my country, we have around $3 minimum wage and that's what 50% of all jobs here pay and you're considered as lucky if you even get such a bad paid job, while the most rents are around $500-700 for a small apartment. Another issue here is that the higher your degree is the harder is it to find a job because the country is poor on itself and no one is able to pay you for the high degree. So yeah, some people don't have the privilege of living in countries where it is normal to move out at 18 because even if you get a job that pays well, you rather stay with your parents to save up money and to support them with it instead and give them and yourself a better life. :)

@pureblood7363 жыл бұрын
I can tell that the older sister is hurting and wants to get back at her mother for something, but what she doesn’t realize is that her selfish, petty actions are also hurting her younger sister, who is completely innocent in this situation. The younger one wore an old coat to school because she knew her mother could’t afford a new one, while the older one spends her money at bars and on motel rooms most nights of the week. Overtop of that she doesn’t work, or even go to her GED classes. I feel no pity for her, she’s a selfish person looking for excuses. Life is going to come crashing down on her one day.

Being an adult is not just about the age or the perks of being one. It's also a responsibility. Turning into adulthood means you have to start leaving behind childish ways or reasonings. I'm not saying that adulthood is nothing but seriousness and you're no longer allowed to be as crazy as you want, but adulthood is the time where you have to be as mature as you can be. Now if this daughter can't still understand what it means to be an adult then she should not dare call herself an adult. She's still a child, just turned 20.

Honestly, it's apparent that she doesn't like staying home because she feels like there's no point if the mom is always trying to argue with her. She probably feels a lot of pressure being the oldest. She wants her fun but knows she has to work someday to support them. People are being too simplistic in saying she has an issue and it's her fault. I feel bad that they had to discuss this on national tv because it seems embarrassing and I don't know if it will have an opposite effect on her.

She has a boyfriend who apparently is in the army and yet she has the audacity to go to pick-up bars?! Wouldn't her boyfriend be shocked or be concerned about that? Aside from that, her mom worked hard for her, she can't repay her back by at least going home every night? I'm dumbfounded.
@pekoeji6 жыл бұрын
I understand this girl's frustration, and how her childhood wasn't fun because she was never included and now that she's 20 she feels like she's behind and needs to catch up through drinking and partying, but she needs to realize that she's being selfish and setting herself up for disaster and her mother only wants whats best for her.. She's jobless without a diploma, and as a mother that's so worrying to see because how will she be successful in the future? The mom is at her limit and can't work again, so providing funds will soon be a struggle for her.. And like, while cussing at your daughter isn't the nicest I can see where her frustration stems from too. And I get being compared to a sibling, especially a younger one, hurts your pride a lot but the little sister is left cleaning up the mess the older one left behind! Ugh, I know the girl just wants to 'live her life' but she needs to get her life together because the longer she waits the harder it's gonna get; alcohol and bars will always be there and it's not uncommon for 21,22,23 etc. to do what she's doing now.
@loveswag2486 жыл бұрын
For me having fun is just an excuse. That girl suffers a lot,I don’t know her story or wherever but for me having fun is just a excuse. It’s like she avoids home because of something, maybe because of her mom cause they are always arguing. And for alcohol, for her I thinks it’s just an « antidote » to forget pain not to have fun. Even her mother said that she runs aways before, that means that she wanted to avoid something at home so she wants to escape.
@sidesideful6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's not as easy as all the comments are saying, why doesn't she just grow up, why doesn't the mother just cut her off. I think the girl does suffer a lot. No one does anything without a reason. I think the girl is very much aware and is very much pained by her situation. I think she's trying to avoid the guilt of being useless, not being able to help out her family in every way, unable to come home and face her family that all she can be is a failure, not getting her GED, not getting a job, not being to help out at all. On top of that, she's constantly compared to her mom's friends kids or her perfect sister. So, it's not like she didn't try or doesn't fully understand her family's financial situation. I mean, she comes home 3 days a week. She's tied up, can't move forward, can't stay home. Tbh, I feel like her being adamant about staying out for 4 days is bc of her sugar daddy (if I'm assuming correctly). I feel like it's not for her own fun, to party, to have fun, to be a 20 yr old, it's actually the requirement of the sugar daddy himself. Once again, she's tied up. She's doesn't have freedom at all, she's actually very limited. At the same time, I think her mom is unable to be strict on her cuz she knows what she's gone through and the mom doesn't want to hurt her more either. All she can do is just get angry and frustrated and argue with her daughter. She's at her wits end and has no idea how to handle this tangled up situation. I mean, the mom should just start dating and get a father figure to help straighten her up. Heck, where is her real dad at? Divorce doesn't mean you get to leave the picture and walk away hands free. It just means the original arrangement isn't working, but they still gotta be a team for their kids.
@loveswag2486 жыл бұрын
sidesideful you just write everything that I wanted to say and it’s feel good to see that someone understand my though. I was angry because of some comments say: she is immature, why doesn’t just the mother cut of the money. Maybe because it’s not that easy, I think there are a story about that family and it’s not because you saw this for like 21min that mean that you can judge someone from what she does. And even if you know her story, people are different, we all react differently. And finally I really want to beg Hello Consulor to have professional like psychology or psychiatrist because laughing and trying to blame the daughter without understanding her feeling, it’s not really helpful for her.
@foodie_advanture6 жыл бұрын
I'm also 18 in international age and I really hope for her to get her head straight, help her mom out and change her habits. She's the eldest daughter and should understand the situation, but I also understand that there was no male figure in her life and that can affect a child.
