That's my situation too. Honestly since the bottom of my heart, I don't wanna know anything about my parents and family once I get out of the house. I'm really destroyed. Family is said to be the best we have and as far as you count with your family everything has hope, but when it is the opposite, an unhealthy parenting..the pain is, the pain in your heart, I can just say is like an internal open wound, you feel something piercing you, it's heavy. And everytime I see my parents, or hear them (especially my mother) this feeling gets stronger.

Edit: Wow I'm so speechless for the comments everyone leave, I read every single of then and I'm glad that we can be here together. Always remember that you're not alone and that things will get better, eventually! Love you all 🤗 As a child of strict parent, I will tell you that these are the things that will happen to your child if you're overly strict to them. 1. Your child become a good liar. 2. Didn't get motivated over things because them doing great is an exoectation and doing poor is unacceotable, which could result in children prefer not being anything at all instead of being a dissapointment. 3. Avoid telling you stories about their life, which is critical for their mental development, because you won't know anything about your children, like if your child have problem or struggle in certain things, that might affected them in the future. 4. Emotionally drained kids, because you expect them to behave, so they learned to wear a 'mask' instead of properly expressing themselves. 5. Grudges after obtaining their "freedom", possibly resulting in your child ignoring your advice in the future because you've "talked enough" over their lives. 6. Turned out to be bad parents because the trauma endured that they often didn't want repeat the cycle, so they tends to loosen up a lot. Discipline is okay, but know when to praise, when to let go, when to see things from the child's perspective, when to trust, and when to scold them. Trust me you'll get more benefits from co-operating with the child than control the child. After all, we don't ask to be born into this world.

Watching this, I noticed that the girl was so lifeless. It may be from stage fright, but she just seemed so dull and stoic. There was little to no emotion in her words or actions. I think a big portion of that is from her being repressed to such a huge degree. Her mom took away a lot of chances for social development and I'm already seeing the issues behind it. She's already in middle school, I pray that by the time she gets to high school she will have more of an ability to express her emotions, thoughts, and ideas.

Parents that are too strict with their children risk their children going wild when their children finally have freedom away from home. Having tasted freedom for the very first time, they might be so overwhelmed with the freedom and really act out. I honestly think this has nothing to do with being Asian. My family was strict too, but they stoped being controlling once I turntable 15, somewhere around there, because they understand that I'm a teenager and need my own space. And they trust me too. And I don't break their trust. My parents were pretty lenient on me and that's why I have such a good relationship with them, because I can tell them anything

from personal experience you will always love your parent deep down even if you wont admit it and even if they are abusive because there is a built in love for your parents... just because you love them doesn’t mean you like them and they are a good person though. you may hate them but then again you can only hate someone if there is love involved. love can happen even with hate or dislike.
@pikabiga5 жыл бұрын
Yes!! Thank you for calling out the abuse. I’ve grown up in a similar household with a strict mother and an alcoholic father. They took away my freedom, and being home and “spending time” with them made me depressed bc of all the mental, physical, and verbal abuse I endured. I was housebound and nearly went crazy under their control. I have never once told them I loved them bc... honestly I don’t. Why would I when they’ve told me they’ve always told me they hate me and reject me. You don’t have to love your parents. There are shorty parents. It is their duty as they had a choice in having children to provide for you, but I have never once received any love from them. All they’ve ever been is overbearing and selfish. In my heart, at a young age, I understood this and accepted it. Not everyone has a healthy relationship with their parents. That’s fine. We must keep living.

Ok, the real problem here is just that the mom is obsessed with others's opinions but she doesn't really care about the well being of her daughter, once her daughter will stop being associated with her (when she will graduates high school and become an adult) , her mom will not care anymore about her life I really observed that korean people give a lot of importance to others opinions and to society view on them

@@7891-l3w that is the point though, it's what causes her to mistreat her children in the first place. of course the abuse is a problem but it stems from her obsession with the opinions of others in their town. she's restricting her daughter because she doesn't want anything to potentially reflect poorly upon herself but doesn't care at all that it may cause her daughter to have issues when she can finally experience freedom. not caring about your child's wellbeing and the development of their social skills is a very big problem that has lasting effects

I wasn't allowed to invite friends over, I wasn't allowed out 'roaming the streets' and I live in a small town so there's not much else to do except walk around. When I was allowed out, I had to be home before the street lights turned on. I honestly think these kind of restrictions are a big reason why I have such social anxiety now as an adult and can't even do simple things in society because I never built up my confidence or independence. I really hope her mother changes her ways and realises she could be doing more harm than good.

Im just wondering if its linked with whether her mother has a distrust in men and how she doesn't want her daughter to feel the same pain, perhaps she's been through? I'm not justifying how controlling she is but it might explain why shes so obsessive in ending the daughters relationship with boys?
@melancholy_joy6 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't be surprised. Parents usually project their own experiences onto their kids, whether knowingly or unknowingly. In hopes of their kids learning from their mistakes. She probably wants the best outcomes for her daughter that she (the mom) probably didn't have. But this mindset can have negative results, because she's living vicariously through her daughter.
@reedahuda22985 жыл бұрын
i mean from what i've understood, her mother doesn't quite care about her daughter's wellbeing. she kept mentioning how people would talk about the daughter having a boyfriend and how it doesn't concern her if the daughter rebels later because she won't have to see it. i think the mother's main concern here is to uphold a good image about their family in front of others, and after she passes high school, her daughter isn't her responsibility anymore.

I used to be smacked as a child (arm/leg/bottom), but *never* hit round the head! That looks abusive. It seems the mum's outlet for her stress in binge drinking and behaving in an overly domineering, despotic manner. There's better ways to handle it and she seriously needs anger management and counselling. The kids don't seem to like her very much (understandably) and both eldest and younger daughters have a flat, exasperated voices, conveying their emotions apropos her harmful parenting.

when I was younger my mother was exactly like that. I had only 1 hour to go out with my friends while they had like 4-5; I was always forces to stay at home and don't go anywhere without her, and before going out she always questioned me about who I'm going out with and she forced me to write to her my friends' phone number. I really hated that so I started to run away, I hide from her after school, lied that I have more lessons just to go out, I didn't respond the her calls and when I did that she started calling my friends and it was frustrating. Now I live with my dad and my mom doesn't act like that anymore, whenever I go to her house and want to go out I just say to her that I'll be going and at what time I will come home. The thing that I want to say is that you can prohibit your child to go out, it will cause a big damage to the relationship that a parent and child have, it is ok to worry, but everything has a border, and you cannot cross it. The more you say "don't do it " to your child the more he/she will do it.

This is kind of like my mom, only my mom plays with my sister and I psychologically. We can hang out with friends (although she is nit picky with our friends, and she doesn't want us hanging out with 'poor' people). But she's very controlling when it comes to how we live our life. When I posted photos on Facebook from our trip to Japan, all she did the whole time was criticize my pictures. When I wore red lipstick, she made fun of me and said it doesn't suit me. Even when I wore this denin oversized jacket, she got mad at me and told me to quickly change because I looked fat. And I was already 21 when all of that happened - I'm a fucking adult! She even forced me to go to nursing school (even though I hate it so much), and she knows how much I struggle, but she doesn't understand. I even fell into depression and gained weight from all the stress, but she didn't understand and told me "how could you be depressed? You have everything! Others have it worse than you!" It made me feel so inadequate that something was wrong with me. And growing up, she was just as bad where my sister and I would always fear her. She always said, "I'm not your friend." And when we didn't do things her way, or got a grade of C+ in a subject, she would criticize us and say things like "I'm wish I never met your dad." And she still says that line today!! And she would physically hurt us (especially as kids). Like when I didnt finish my snacks at school, she slapped me so hard on the head that my ears rang for the whole day. She would kick, pinch, slap us. And when my sister struggled with her homework, she got a dust pan and struck my sister where she actually got a big cut that bled. And I remember my sister developed an eating disorder where she wouldn't eat (because she was fucking bullied for her weight at school), my mom only criticized her instead of helping her. She even stabbed my sister with a fork when she refused to eat. And the worst part is, after she does those things, she starts treating us so nice and buys as things. She's the reason why I'm the way I am today, and it's nothing good. Heck, even my grandma (my mom's mom) hates her and says "I'm going to move out. I don't like that attitude of your mom." And don't even get me started on what she does to my grandmother. It's heartbreaking. She got all of my grandma's money, and lands, and left nothing for her. My mom is jobless, and she dares take money from her mom who worked hard for it!!

I dont understand the mother at all. As a parent dont you want to see your kids happy? If they are healthy and happy what else do you need? Do some people only have kids to release anger and have a slave? Its as if they think they arent human. Your kid has feelings too. Your kid wants to live normally too. Kids in situations like this get scared of their parents, rebel, get depressed, lose all their friends, so on. I dont understand how some people think.

If this was in Portugal this woman wasn't able to have her children anymore!! It shocks me how the babies have to ask for something, like drink water, WTF?!!! go to bathroom, WTTTFFFF???!?!?!?! Excuse me Mrs. you're commiting a crime, and for the good of your children, learn how to be a mother. That 15 year old girl is a teenager, she has to have her space, her freedom, with that she will form who she his, her personality and who she will be, if you stop her she will never be a mentally, socially and personal healthy woman, and thats for the little ones too. Your actions are not protecting them but are doing even worse...

there is something so unsettling about the way she almost slurs her words and it seems so emotionless. it’s almost as if she’s on the brink of death. her mom’s behavior towards the children is so brutal.

I was brought up in a strict environment, especially my dad always had me focusing in academics more. If i dropped down from keeping my No 1 or top 2 at least in my batch, i'll be neglected and resented....I really struggled at those time to keep up with the expectation.. My sister was given more freedom compared to me though...Last time, very seldom i managed to hang out with my friends... I started to have a bit of freedom after graduated from high school, but somehow it really made me like a 'home' person..i dont really have that excitement to meet up with my friends until my mom thought i dont really have a friend or antisocial....

I guess Asian parents are like African parents but all it ever gave me was resentment and a strong wish to leave home. I at one point vowed not to see my parent again, but I had a melt down before that and just completely let it all out. My mom changed for the better and now we get along a lot, but there were moments growing up that felt like hell. I remember writing in my diary "Is there such a thing as family or are we just strangers who share the same blood."

In Asian cultures, this is pretty much the norm, actually. I'm in my 20s and this is commonplace. I can see what her mum is concerned with; what with teen pregnancy and pre-marital, underage sex being rather common too... and she might also be a single mum (as there was no mention of their dad?) thus her over-protective stance. though, pretending to text her friends as the daughter and checking everything is a bit...too much. learning to draw a line would be crucial to their relationship

Rtyx if she is scared of her daughter getting pregnant, she should talk about it with her. As many studies show telling teens to not have sex doesnt work. What does work is educate them on how to have safe sex...

If you saw in the other half of this video the girl has so much love for her sisters just from a genuine smile. I know for a fact her younger sisters look up to her as the mom majority of the time but for a 15 year old to have that sort of responsibility already, i cant imagine how much she has to deal with. My mom was once like this on my older sister, which she turned into the rebel that many people would think of. Growing up I only knew what freedom was because of my older sister. She was like my second mom, she would always take care of me. But because of the parenting my sister had to go through first, in the end she built resentment towards the family, and she barely talks to any of us. My mom learned that mistake and realized it was best to trust. She tried that for me and now me and my mom are inseparable. The results could be different for anyone when it comes to giving your children freedom but one thing i know is that it never ends well when youre this painfully strict.

I just hope it's changing for better. As a person who's only 2 years older and had a similar situation, I feel really bad for her. My mother never went as far as taking away my phone but she was always checking who I'm friends with and where i am. She's a teacher at a school i attended. She made opinions about people around me based on their grades... And no matter how well i did she would go 'when your sister was your age...' i just felt like she didn't care that much about my feelings, so i stopped telling her about my problems. It took her a year to realize that my boyfriend broke up with me. And she still doesn't know that I got bullied for 4 years at her workplace. Now I'm socially awkward and sometimes scared of being around people. My friends whom i've known for less than a year have seen me cry more times than my own mother. And they show way more acceptance.

Both my parents hit me and my siblings when we were younger to discipline us. They didn't do it with an intent to mentally intimidate us, but in order to teach us that actions come with consequences. They always made sure that we knew they love us. That's really important. We knew not to make the same mistakes, but we weren't scared of our mother. Your child can be disciplined physically and still be happy and comfortable around you. If you hit your child with an intent to really hurt them, then just don't.

My mom was like that too when i was younger. She would cut my phone line whenever i did "something wrong" and would go through my texts in my sleep. She would also pick me up straight after school and i had tuition almost every day. One day i had enough and ran away from home lol. Didn't go to school for an entire term. After that whole saga she kind of understood that the person causing this suffocation and urge to run away is her, and she was much more lenient after that. But my mom loves me, i'm not sure this mother does at all. There's a fine line between concern and over-control. I'm 21 now and have an acceptable relationship with my mom, this "mother" is actually gonna regret it when her daughter disregards her in the future. You ain't gna stay young forever woman.

I can relate to her but even more since my parents are more strict. I'm not allowed to date EVER in my life and I can't have a lot of guy friends. I have never hung out with my friends EVER since I have never been allowed to go for group hangouts. I have never been allowed to go out of my house by myself even just to walk in the park! I don't have any accounts in social media at all which gets me bullied a bit. Even though they don't exactly TAKE away my phone, I'm always suspected about having a boyfriend behind their back or having secrets. I'm barely allowed to use any gadgets or do anything leisurely as they want me to sit and study all day. I do feel very controlled and I get shouting for even the slightest thing like not washing the dishes. I can't sleep a lot too. Even in the weekends and vacations, they wake me up at 7:00am. So this video probably relates to my life the most and a lot more. P.S-Couldn't stop looking at Taejoon oppa, if I was that girl, I would be the same (not look at his face).
