Hope you have a bib or something with this video. I don't usually do videos to celebrate statistics, but a commenter asked what I was doing for my 20,000 subscriber video, and I literally had no plans for anything of the sort. He asked when I was less than 100 subs to go, and thought I'd have to think about it and that I'd have time.
That didn't last long as 20K came within that same week. So in scrambling to come up with something, I thought I'd feature almost every model railroaders favorite subject. Locomotives. Something that would not be hard to do, especially with the loco addicts we have in the club. So, here you go.
We start off with the a few spots back in the staging areas of the layout. Afterwards, we move out to the public side of the layout and hit each large gathering of power in the various spots around the layout. Starting with Mike's Jackson Yard facilities with all of his IC/GM&O and related lines, then wrapping it up with the Enterprise/Excelsior/Broadway facilities that belong to Dad and me. Basically we have a bunch of Locomotive addicts in the club and we aren't afraid to show it. :D
Keep in mind though, none of these collections happened over night, these are years and years worth of work. We are also fully aware of how... well, ridiculously obscene it is, but hey, there's worse things in the world to be obsessed with!
Hope you enjoyed this look at our hoarding and I want to say thanks to everyone for the support of this channel. Without you all, I don't think I'd still be doing this after ... wow, 8 years.
Also, if you go to my Facebook page linked below, I'll have a large number of pics from this shoot posted. They will be up within the first hour of this video going live, so if you go look and they aren't there yet, check back by 10am Central and they should be up by then
See you next time and thanks for watching!

Wow, congratulations on the 20000 subs. A very impressive club fleet, I can’t imagine how complex the wiring must be to power all of that. You must have an equally impressive amount of boosters to be able to have all of the sound units idling all the time. Thanks for sharing.
@RailfanJason
@RailfanJason 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Actually most of the track power is controlled through the route selective Peco switches we use. This greatly reduces the wiring. In fact, most of the sound you're hearing is only coming from a small handful of units in each area. But we do have eight 8amp boosters, spread around the layout, plus three main units (one for each of the three mainlines) that controls the boosters. Also to conserve power, when not in use the big yards have master kill switches that shut power off to them so they aren't draining any more power than necessary.

Yeah, cool. The guy in the club who has all the IC units grew up near the IC if I remember correctly. He collects any railroad associated with them. Thanks!

So awesome to see the classics. ICG, some SP, Rock and ATSF. Where was the MoPac? And those ICG units looking rough, love it. Jason, is there any chance you could do a video of the layout at night. Just to see all the lighting around the engine shops and buildings? Be great to see resting, idling locos with their number boards dimly lit up, etc. You all have a wonderful layout and always look forward to each of your videos. Thanks and congrats on all the subs.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the show. For a while, the guy who has all the Rock Island power was collecting MoPac. I think his interest changed though and he sold off a bunch of the MoPac equipment he had and started going heavy on the Rock. Unfortunately though, dong a night shoot would be difficult since lighting hasn't really taken off yet. It's rare when anyone is at the club after dark, so we've just not taken the time to do much lighting. I want to get some more on mine, but it just comes down to time and money to do it.

Sweet engines! How do you guys keep track of who's is who's?
@RailfanJason
@RailfanJason 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's really not that difficult. Most of the members have their own areas to keep their fleets in. Though there are some exceptions, a lot of the guys don't model the same railroads, so that helps too.

Nice layout and locomotives I would like to go and see the layout
@easternwoods4378
@easternwoods4378 6 жыл бұрын
That's got to be several hundred thousand worth of locomotives. Is that all club owned or mixed? How do you keep track of who owns what. And then there's the rolling stock. That's one reason the hobby is so expensive.
@RailfanJason
@RailfanJason 6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, we have no idea how much is sitting on the layout. Each area with power belongs to individual members. They know what they spend on each unit, but no one has ever take the time to add it all up. Would probably give a quarter of the membership a heart attack if they found out. But that's how we keep track too, each area belongs to a different member and we all model different railroads, so we know what goes where.
