Thanks for taking the time to make these videos, I'll be tearing down my first engine in the coming months (89 KDX200) and these are a huge help for visual reference. It's pretty intimidating, but after watching these it doesn't seem unreasonable at all.

Okay, thank you! We did it the right way. All the way down to the cases, uses Yamabond to seal it back up. We also filed the clutch basket notches off while we were there and washed everything in the parts washer. The biggest ass-pucker moment was going through the gears once we got it all buttoned back up, but thankfully it shifted all the way through. Also, we were able to reuse many of the gaskets, as most were new to begin with. Thank you for the confidence!

Can confirm getting that but off without air is difficult I tried today definitely need a rattler

hey kool idea!! i will try it. i have 24/7 access to a ridiculously huge 50 ton hydraulic/electric press that pushes 'em out without a grunt, but i like your idea and thanks for sharing it, i bet someone will use it and i will try it out in another video soon. cheers, john

Thanks for this video. Note that if the engine is prior to 1989 then the flywheel uses a Bolt, not a nut. The flywheel puller I had bolt was too short, so I put a small socket in the hole, then the puller, and that did the trick! My engine has bad main bearing, bad pushrod bearing, and scored cylinder. At least I got the bike for only 100 bucks.

And pull the counter shaft seal before splitting then you wont have to bang on the shaft

Thanks for the video! You don't happen to know where I can find any engine cases now a days by chance do you? Also, you mentioned that you have to use a press to remove the crank, but you can use the same case splitting too that you used to push the crank out. I just saw that someone else just mentioned that, never mind...

first off, i personally run valvoline (or any good) 10w40 motor oil and not tranny fluid. change it about every 10 hours. dump the FULL QUART in, it will make your gear box run quieter. i have done this for many years so i know it's good advice. secondly, your kick start gear is not spinning correctly, could be the idle gear between kick shaft and clutch gear. maybe the shims? in any case, if your kicker gets caught up it can possibly crack your cases! get it fixed asap! check all shims!! ~john

Yeah.. I'm not sure how many shims are in use with the kickstarter mechanism ... But I'll give it the high school try. Thanks John.

Screw the hydrologic press, the puller works fine from the other side to push the crank out, at least it did for me

if you build a rectangular box frame out of 4 pieces of 2x4 about 6" x 10" you can lay the motor on its side make it a lot easier to work on the motor will work on all dirt bike motors

Good input!

Good video, but I'm suprised that you don't know that you can use the case splitter on the right side to push the crank out. You don't need a hydrolic press.

Sparky! I'm going insane trying to install a new Kickstarter spring after the old one popped out on a ride, forcing me to push my bike uphill for over a mile. I've got everything in right--the collar, the washer, etc. Is there a certain position the shaft has to be in? Every time I try, I can kick down, but the kicker won't return. Is it best to remove the clutch as well?
@sparkingdogg11 жыл бұрын
hi, NO RTV!!! that stuff will ooze inside the case and be in there forever. you will have to take off pretty much everything... you are going to have to clean the two case mating surfaces really well, and put in a new gasket. you will need a full gasket set. if you skimp, and try to do this some easy way, it's just going to leak again. no other way, sorry! get a manual (online ones can be had for free) it's a doable job if you have patience... and correct tools. good luck!

kick starter is missing when i try to kick it over. the kick starter pops back up so it doesnt seem to be the return spring, but sometimes its grabbing and turning over the engine and sometimes it just misses and goes down with no resistance..... whats the problem?

Great video but one question where can I buy a new crank shaft for 2003 Kdx 200
@sparkingdogg Жыл бұрын
Not available. Check out a crank shaft rebuilding service. Google it.

Sparky- my cases are leaking right smack dab in the middle. They need to be split and rebonded. What is the best way to do this without having to take off every single part? Also, can I use RTV to rebond? Thanks!

Sparky.. Question, I have a KDX 220 and after 15mins. of riding the KICKSTARTER LEVER goes into HYPER vibration rattle mode while making awful sounds. Do you have an idea why it would do this? I currently use type f oil in the clutch basket and I don't think that's the problem. Any Idea what my problem is? Thanks

which direction does the nut come off on the crank?
@sparkingdogg6 жыл бұрын
Normal nut. Lefty loosey. Not reverse thread.

Is this the same motor as a 86-88 kdx 200? , great video thanks
@sparkingdogg10 жыл бұрын
it's nearly the same, no water pump and different exhaust valves, but almost identical otherwise
@chrisstomper8610 жыл бұрын
ok cool so i can use this video to help rip my motor apart ?
@sparkingdogg10 жыл бұрын
OffRoadADDICT yeah use it as a general guide, you should have a factory manual especially at reassembly time ; )
