If that noise turns into action in the next four years we might see things change not just on youtube, but the internet as a whole. It was definitely common during early GWOT and in competition back in the 90s. I'm sure it's older than that. Mags sometimes hang up a bit, especially when they're empty.
@lightdarkskin358Ай бұрын
Been doing that 20 years ago when we ran 3 gun competitions. Prone shooting in the desert we used to get sand in our sidearm mag wells so we chucked the magazine out the firearms with a flick.

Yeah, it's definitely not something new. Sometimes, mags need a little extra help to drop free, especially empty ones. It's been common in competition since at least the 90s, and I'm sure it goes back further than that.

I'm a big fan of the John Wick series, but this was being done for years. One of the reasons back in the 90's (as Glock got more popular) American Glock owners hated the European Glock mags: They used to not be drop-free (round-back.) You couldn't "flick" or even speed reload as fast. The US complained, Austria stopped doing that. Keanu was likely taught something along these lines with that flick. AR owners do this too. I do this regularly with speed reloads on my pistol, but flipping to the SUPPORT side instead of strong side. All things behind equal: - Support side keeps the shortest line from the spare mag to the magwell. - Relies less on fine motor movement. There's more nuance to go push it...but it definitely looks kick-ass the way Keanu does it.

A veteran friend of mine showed me that in like 2003, he said they did it because sometimes sand would work it's way into the magewell and the mags wouldn't drop freely so they started doing that for the ones that got stuck. It's actually slower than just dropping it most of the time, just get a timer and see for yourself. It's a second or less slower and but second is a long time whenever bullets are flying.

@clencheastwood157120 күн бұрын
no, he may have popularized it for competition shooting, but we were doing this is reaction force training for the Navy back in 2005. Not as dramatically, Ill grant you, but we did flick the mag out on both out M9s and M4s. mostly to make sure the guy behind you didn't slip on it.
@budmc12120 күн бұрын
Thank you. I’m a nobody and I used to train the same method as well. For me, it was about the idea of making sure the empty mag exited quickly and fully in the heat of a gunfight for a quick reload. It is done right in front of your face so you see it happen. If you have calmly ejected many light, plastic Glock mags without moving the gun you have likely seen the light mags hang up more than once. If I’m trying to reload under the stress of a fight I don’t need that. I need the mag well empty by the time the next mag is coming up. There’s no way I invented this method for myself. It had to have already been out there floating around somewhere.
@cedartop120 күн бұрын
It is not all that popular in competition. You won't see the best shooters using it as it is less efficient therefore slower. It looks great though.
@budmc12120 күн бұрын
@@cedartop1 That doesn’t surprise me at all. From what I’ve seen, competition shooters tend to have nice mags with tough, heavy bumper pads. I would also assume their pistols are kept exceptionally clean for the smoothest operation. I imagine those heavy mags just drop right out.

I saw that being done in the 90s LOL I was about to say. He might have done it in a cool fashion for Hollywood but the actual technique has been used for decades
@JB2263611 күн бұрын
There is so much wrong with this video. I don't know where to start. 1. Flicking the magwell did not start with the john wick movies. It's a technique for glocks specifically because the mag doesn't drop easy. 2. It slows you down, and it's considered a joke in competition circles. In shooting circles in general, that technique is heavily criticized. The only people that are shooting on a high level are competitive shooters. The military is so far behind its a shame.

I just tried it with my Canik pistol, it’s not actually faster. The weight of a mag, even when empty will drop pretty fast with gravity alone. Flicking it actually takes longer because then you have to bring the handle back to reload the new mag. Does look cool in film though
