I'm testing the Keen Durand II Mid WP boots now. These are made in the USA, cost a little more, and feel very different from the Targhee models. They're stiffer and more heavily armored. I'll let you know how these turn out.

I tried on a “wide” version of those recently. Was disappointed that they didn’t fit my foot well. I’ve had two pairs of Targhees. One is pretty shredded at this point from wear, but glue and stitching are not coming apart. They are definitely more of a “shoe” and the Durands seem like more of a “boot”.

I've worn KEENS forever. They are super comfortable....but this is what I see as well. I wear them everyday and I get about 12-18 months out of them. Used to last longer.

Keen went for fashion over function. A solid soul would hold up much better than the glue up they are using. I went through 2 pair before giving up on them.

I bought a pair of Keen Targhee EXPs before a Colorado mule deer trip 2 years ago. I've owned 2 pairs of leather Targhee 2s before and wore the soles flat after years of continuous use. The EXPs fell apart on my hunting trip at 3 months old, soles separated. The Keen Dry proved worthless as they leaked like crazy walking through dew covered grass. I took a pair of OBOZ Sawtooth 2s as a backup and they quickly became my favorites, still rolling to this day, wear like iron. Since then I've added a pair of Merrell Moabs to my boot stable and I'm very satisfied. From Colorado mountains to the Smokey Mountains the Oboz and Moabs have conquered all. I'll likely never buy Keens again.

Bought one pair of Keens and they absolutely killed my feet. Glad they are taking care of you. Now I use solomon on day hikes and crispi for hunting

Good for you. I used to buy Keen's, but had the same problem. I wear boots for work as Commercial HVAC Maintenance tech. I've bought, twice, the $100+ CAT, laced up, Work Boots from Academy and they are so comfortable climbing straight ladders onto commercial building roofs, etc. However, they use a thin thread to stitch the rubber toe cap and that stitching comes out every times. Aghhh!

2 pairs of targhee2's both had the same separation on the sole. However, I put maybe 4 thousand miles on each pair, in under a year. The first pair was replaced no questions asked, I missed the deadline for the 2nd ones. I would buy them again in a heartbeat, no other shoe feels that good, and can take all of the abuse.

I have been wearing Keens for years with similar results with Tarhee II and Voyager while wearing most every day working in agriculture research. The Durand’s soles do hold up much better. They are so comfortable I just had to start considering it a cost of doing business. I’m currently in Durand and Targhee II boots and Tarhee III shoes.

i had the same problem with a pair of Rocky Deerstalkers. Unlike Keen, Rocky refused to do anything at all. Never bought another pair of Rocky's. Shoe Goo is good stuff!

I had a set of Keen boots I didn't know there was a warranty. But I must admit I don't believe Keen could have ever imagined the conditions that I wore their boots in. I haul both Diesel and gasoline the fuel racks where I load Diesel and gasoline the floors are soaked in both substances. I don't ever think I slipped in a puddle of fuel while wearing Keen boots but the rubber just didn't survive this environment. Still one of the better boots I've ever used nonetheless.

I ended up with Merrell and sent the keens back. But they are all glued. None are good year welted. So separation happens with all.

Yup, Keens fit my foot perfectly but fall apart way too fast. I had a pair of Targhee (not sure of the series) out for a weekend at hunting camp in West Texas in the summer. It was in the upper 90s and used in rocky terrain, in and out truck beds, on and off trailers, etc. The entire toe cap separated along with much of the sole on the first day of a 3 day weekend. I had to Gorilla Tape the front half of the boot together every day to make it through the trip. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice shame on me. No mas! The design and fit are perfect, but the build quality is crap...

Pretty well known that Keen switched to a "green" adhesive. I loved my voyagers but 6 months in the soles started to come apart. I wore them daily. CS told me that the glue fails if not flexed often. Apparently everyday wasn't enough. I got nothing from Keen but grief. I kept super gluing and wearing and turned them into yard work shoes. My household hasn't bought a Keen product since.
@SocialRegressive

Aha. I figured that was the case. How "green" is product if you have to replace it 5x as often as the old model?

Good on Keen for making things right. I had a pair of Merrell Reflex or some other “Cabelas Exclusive” model that started to have the threads give out on the the leather panels on like the 3rd hike in 2 months of ownership and I hit Merrell up and they wanted a picture of the receipt. After they confirmed the receipt was good they said to pick out a pair from their website and email them a picture of my Reflex’s with the tongues cut out 😂 I did so and a brand new pair of Waterproof MOAB II Mids (that had the twice the MSRP of the Reflex) showed up a week later. Great CS and I will know to avoid the one off “store special” models in the future.

I’m curious if you stored them anywhere really hot like the trunk of your car all summer long. I’ve had at least three experiences with storing shoes in the attic for a long time (I’m talking multiple years) and then getting them out and they fall apart. I think the prolonged heat breaks down the glue.
