Jim it is a testament to your excellent commentary and presentation that I have been getting such great enjoyment out of this latest series of "a nice man cleaning up his yard in the winter"

The Weekly Garden Planner is my “homework” every weekend. It has really helped me to think and plan ahead. Thank you Jim & Stephany for all that you teach us! Happy Holidays to you, your family, Holly & Griffin.

I was happy to follow your advice leaving the leaves piled up around my perennials, and although they got the quick freeze, I can see a few green leaves at the base.

Jim & Steph: Now that it's Wintry: Would you pls give a naming tour of your evergreens? Easier for people like me to SEE a wintergreen, winter interest plant in it's glory, alone. Hoping you can!

Now I have confirmation that the beds I have been working on for 4 years are very healthy. I used to worry about why the soil was so soft and spongy! Thanks for all the great info. Merry Christmas 🎅

This is such a cardinal tenet of gardening. I've let a neighbor's oak tree leaves fall and stay over an area I recently planted with new daffodils.

For Sunday Questions: you mention around the 3min mark about long term issues of continuously using wood chips are mulch in mature beds. Can you discuss further?

Because the microbes breaking down the wood chips can temporarily lock up some of the nitrogen in the top of the soil and rob it from the plants. Once the wood chips are broken down those nutrients a released back into the soil.

Great video as always. Question 🙋♂️ I hear you loud and clear with building a mutualistic relationship between microbes in our plants. That has been a goal over the last 2 to 3 years while I built my garden. My roses get morning sun and stuffer with black spot. Will using a systemic like mycobutanil completely destroy this system? I really need to prevent black spot this year or the roses are out of the garden. Zone 9a gulf coast Alabama 😊

Also, to note, cold air is drier than warm air. So exposed soil will dry out in winter.

Couldve pointed out the Ivy in the woods as an example of a groundcover that does its job too well 😂.
