Thank you Rinpoche!! You are doing a fantastic job divulging buddhist wisdom. I am so grateful that you share this knowledge and you are making a great effort for making use of new technologies for people like me. I am very conditioned to where I live and the lifestyle of the culture, and it is completely up to me to learn what I learn. I am on the path of buddhism, I find great strength in buddhist beliefs and practices, and every day try and reveal my true buddha nature. It is so great to watch videos like these, because all of my knowledge comes from books, and your advice is very practical. One day I wish to find a master to learn properly, but today I do my best with what I can. I am so grateful for have encountered buddhism, it has changed my whole outlook on life. It is a radical shift in perspective, and just a completely different attitude. Thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽❤❤

Dear Teacher, Thank you for sharing us many good advice. I am practicing Vipasana. The technique is only about observing sensation of our body while keeping equanimity. This technique is known as the one that Gautama rediscover and practice until he got enlighten 2500 years ago. We are taught that we should follow only one technique and should not mixed with any other technique. Recently, I read and watch about Falun Gong of Li Hongzhi. In his book, he said it is important to have the help from the teacher ( Li Hongzhi) for our practice while following other techniques, we mostly base on ourself. I got confused when I see this video when you said that we should change our subject of meditating. It means when we feel uncomfortable, we react by changing our posture or our subject of meditating. I also got confused of choosing one technique that suitable for me to practice. I know that we do not have much time to try and change techniques because our life is short. It is like we standing with two legs in diferrent boat. Could you give me some advice? Yours sincere,
@SW-wf3gy7 жыл бұрын
In my experience, it is beneficial to learn from a few techniques, or teachers, and then choose the one you think is best for you and go deeper into it. I was practising one particular spiritual practice, and I tried to focus. After 9 years, I realised its limitations and problems. I wish I had tried different methods or schools in the beginning. Now I have found a much better path. But I have wasted so much time. I follow the teachings of Mingyur Rinpoche now. His teaching is easy to understand, not aggressive. You get to find your balance, and you go deeper step by step. This is from my experience. Good luck with your search!

I'm new to meditation and am currently doing meditation on the part just below the nose (breathing meditation) and I have noticed that there seems to be a specific gaze associated with each type of awareness meditation if your eyes are open. For example looking downwards when doing breathing meditation, looking more forwards I believe when meditating just on the mind etc. However from what Rinpoche says here is it the case that the direction of the gaze doesn't matter that much? Or is it just easier for that particular focus of awareness at least initially.
@st.hannibal73138 жыл бұрын
Maybe you should try meditating with eyes closed.
@julioczbr8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for share your experience. Change the gaze can be important to calm the mind, because in the meditation we reach to recognize awereness. And a good way to do it is change the practice like as he friendly explained. If we feel discomfort during meditation, our mind can be very agitated, and then it difficult to recognize the awareness. Those practices and experiences help to "develop" awareness, and can transform the mind a great ally. I am new to meditation too, e I wish that we have much sucess in our pratice. Thank you.

I start with the "breath" meditation ... then move on to the meditation of the sensations in the body ... then return to the breath ... Does this "when I go to the body" mean that I am lost, that my attention has gone. .. Does switching from breath to sound, but just listening to the sound, does the same thing ? Is there such a mix ? Is that wrong ? When I meditate, I notice that I include all " three in one" :)) ("techniques") breath and sound and body ... Of course not at once but when one "goes" I move to the other ... Basically, all three change. Is this total confusion? I don't feel confused, I'm just wondering over this question ... Excuse me, it's my Google english...

When meditating, I find myself switching between open eyes and closed eyes, I seen somewhere that it's ok to do this, but I'm not sure if it's throwing my concentration off, I do it because when my eyes are open at the beginning of my meditation and I'm focusing on my object, eventually I feel relaxed and so focused that my eyes close and I concentrate on my mind, but sometime after, my eyes begin to open again, which then causes monkey mind to debate whether I'm concentrated or not, which I feel throws me off in a sense, even though monkey mind is asking about my meditation! Anybody else? Any tips etc? Thanks
@chrismcgahee8937 жыл бұрын
just relax no need to worry about focusing and concentrating so much unless your specifically attempting to develop concentration itself. Generally as long as you notice your breathing(notice your breathing out when your breathing out and in when your breathing in), notice your thoughts, whatever your mediation object is or perhaps you just drop mediation object all together and just rest. If i remember correctly Rinpoche may suggest in a video to maybe try actually alternating between using the breath or other object and simply resting(just allow anythoughts to come and go you dont have to pay particular attention to any of them just maintain awareness or not get lost). I believe the key is just not to get lost. if you get lost in thought and you think "oh shit I forgot where i was and that im suppose to be mediating" then that would be getting lost. but also because you just realized the fact that you got lost this is good too. that means you are already back so you dont need to worry so much. try more of these videos, maybe one specifically where he talks about awareness. or Check out these learning.tergar.org/course_library/intro-to-meditation/ free videos that will shed some light on your question perhaps and from someone who knows what they are talking about unlike myself. Be patient and gentle with yourself above all. The fact that you are even taking the time to try and work with your mind and practice is no small thing in and of itself. Keep at it, best of luck

hello, I wonder if you could answer one question. I really want to iluminate the lives of other people, I really want to attain my equilibrium and I'm doing what is possible for me to achieve this goal. But I have a problem. My mother commited suicide some years ago, and since then I cannot attach to people because, ratioanly, I know how this attachment can cause suffering for myself and for others. So how can I help them? How can I be spontaneous, if I feel their presence is draining my energy? How to bring enlightenment to the path of all living things, when you cannot stay too close to them? And is this genuine compassion or genuine hate?
@SW-wf3gy7 жыл бұрын
In Mingyur Rinpoche's teaching, in Joy of Living Level 1, we learn to cultivate self awareness. So it gives us the technique to create space in our mind to be free. This is from my experience. In Level 2, we learn to cultivate compassion towards others in daily life. In Level 3, you learn about emptiness. So it is a step by step process to deepen one's awareness, and finding the balance between giving to others, and returning to the freedom within oneself. It takes time to get to know oneself, one's fears, abilities, desires by cultivating awareness. After a while, your fear will diminish, and you may feel ready to give more easily. If you have time, check out Level 1. Best wishes.

Dear Mingyur Rinpoche, In this video, you mentioned different meditation techniques: “form, sound, smell, taste, sensation, thoughts, emotions and etc..” Maybe I didn’t hear it clearly from the video, but What is the first one “form”? How does this “form” technique work? Thanks so much as always. Sincerely.

Hello Jun, Thanks for your message. In this case form means using a visual object as the support for your awareness. For example, looking a flower and being aware of its shape or color without following the storylines (I like this flower, I don't like this flower, etc.). I hope that helps. You can find more information in Chapter 11 of Mingyur Rinpoche's book, "The Joy of Living."

I have also learned to stay aware when I excercise feel the movements, the breath, etc. also, learning a new language works some of the same parts of the brain (hippocampus and left side of brain in sustained attention) as meditation. So it' supplements meditation. Our brain can only sit there for so long without getting bored or tired. But I need to stress something I have learned while learning about meditation..compassion and kindness. That's the reason I am writing so much tips for you and anyone who reads this. Many people must have seen your message asking for help. I am naturally compassionate, but I have definitely improved through watching rinpoche. Being kind also helps us. For example, when you are angry in an argument and "win" the argument, are you happy and calm and content? When you do something very kind for someone isn't there a nice feeling that comes with that? Well as you will find out being kind is actually very good for our health. The more you practice staying calm and patient and compassionate with others, the more you will be that way with yourself. I notice as I am nicer with people , I don't really get upset, impatient or worry so much about my own life.

@chanderbhanujaswal87837 жыл бұрын
That is a good sign brother.. sometimes when our mind is not much catered outside it is easy to bring our dhyan to the eye centre or the third eye as u say . So when ever that magnetic sensation comes it means that your mind is becoming introvert from extrovert . But once that condition is achieved it is difficult to maintain it further as our mind is subjected to continuous movable thoughts .. that's where the role of a guru comes. Without a guru no one can achieve real bliss. A guru is not just a meditation practioner but much beyond our thinking . To realize oneself one must possess a guru .

I've dealt with fear for many years. Since Ive meditated in the last 8 months or so, I have made enormous improvements. I even got off horrible anxiety meds. Never take those. They damage your brain temporarily and take year or more to recover.I literally am aware all day long. I bring my attention to whatever I'm doing when I wander in thought I bring my attention back. I give a gentle awareness to my breath pretty much all day. It's a practice of paying attention to now. It's very important to be kind when you mess up. I've heard someone call training our mind "training the puppy". This training of staying in the moment helps to get rid of fear which is not actually the moment of now but thinking of the future. Little by little it gets better I promise you! Don't lose hope. Also. Rinpoche speaks of letting the fear happen while focusing on your breath. This is actually the cure. Not fighting the fear. At first I noticed the fear and payed attention to other things small movements of the body or even fingers, counting breaths, etc. That way your attention is divided. You allow that yes I'm fearful and nothing bad will happen and I'm focusing on my breath and even something else. Every time you do this and get through it your mind gets a little less scared of fear itself. Be patient! It doesn't happen fast but 100% everyone will improve. Our brain can learn fear then it can learn to not fear the fear. We get comfortable and aware of our habits. Our thoughts of fearful future events then make our body feel sensations. We come to realize that they are simply that, thoughts and sensations. The less you run away and with hope that nothing bad will actually happen by facing our fear, The fear begins to fade. I know it seems almost impossible but it seems like a miracle that my fear has faded to very little and rare, and will keep fading. Look up dr. Harry Barry how to stop a panic attack on KZbin and watch everything on rinpoche. I actually meditated with eyes closed listening to him.

Oh ya one more thing. I must speak about nutrition when dealing with being calm and content. I have had a long journey of improving my health. Improving my health has improved my state of mind also. I used to lift weights a lot and eat the typical bodybuilder diet. But I didn't feel good. In fact I was most anxious while I was at my peak physical appearance. I was neglecting certain things most importantly my gut and the good bacteria that lives there. The balance of good bacteria in our gut is tremendously important. Affecting absolutely every thing in our body and mind. The good bacteria help us to digest nutrients and block toxins and kill bad bacteria. Read about leaky gut to see how bad things can get when we neglect our good bacteria. A short video is by eric berg called Benefits of lactic acid from sauerkraut. no need to worry. Just eat probiotic foods, like yogurt, etc. you can take some probiotics like renewlife. Might give gas at first. They have cocont yogurt if you don't eat milk. Also good to find out if you have food sensitivities. They can also make us feel like garbage. Experiment. Cut out for example dairy for a month and see if you feel better. Some of the most popular food sensitivities are milk, wheat or foods with gluten, shellfish, soy, nuts, fish, eggs, peanuts, yeast. A good book is "food allergy survival guide" by Vedanta Melina, Jo stepaniack, and Diana Aronson. I found out I'm sensitive to almost all legumes, peanuts, soy, beans, some nuts, milk, wheat. I get skin rash but some people show no symptoms externally. Maybe gas, stomach pain. Skin tests are sometimes wrong by the way, but usually we have an idea what we are sensitive to. Our body gives us signs. Also I take men's one a day with no iron or calcium. Garden of life, good too if you can eat those ingredients. We usually lack vitamins these days. Try to eat lots of fruits, veggies of different colors and types. If possible eat organic. Avoid processed food, lower nutrition. Eat one garlic clove a Day, ginger 1 inch cube, turmeric, Italian spices, they keep us healthier. Healthy body healthy mind and visa versa. Hope this helps.

Hey bro. Try making friends with your fear, be with it, use it as support for awareness
