According to a few breeders on youtube they do not breed true. Dean(on aquarium coop channel) get black, a dark but not solid black and gold from his breeders.

What a roller coaster! I hate when getting new fish takes a bad turn. Very stressful, frustrating, and sad when it leads to losses. I haven’t been around on this channel at all recently. I’ve had a really crap summer with my fish. Leave it to 2020 to tear through my breeding projects! I did get some runt black rams from LRB aquatics. I knew before getting them I wasn’t going to be able to breed because they’re from the same spawn and are already stunted in size but now that I have them I really want to work with rams in the future! They’re so spunky! Hopefully they don’t get too aggressive as they get older. I’m planning an overhaul on my tanks soon so the rams I have will probably end up in separate display tanks. I can’t wait to see them more. They’re still in my quarantine bin system until I can find someone to take my five million mutt livebearers lol. If only my breeding strains of livebearers did half as well as my display tank mutts!

I’m in Florida and we have lots of black rams problem is our water is extremely hard and rams like it soft and no breeders, wholesalers or fish stores tell you this and as soon as someone puts in there water they start dying from gh being too high. I have lost 10 black rams Pairs in the span of nine months all due to bad genetics mostly and in the beginning miss information on what exactly these fish need because they are much more sensitive than all the other German Rams. The key to these guys is keep the water temperature between 82 and 86° they like it hot. keep the GH between 3-5 ppm, if it goes up higher than 100 ppm The male cannot fertilize the eggs due to there being too much calcium in the water. The female will still lay eggs in the mail try to fertilize them but will not be able to get through the shell of the egg. little tips for people trying to breed them there hope it helps. I may start putting out videos myself showing the processes I went through just to keep these guys alive happy and maintained as they are very difficult to keep happy and get right in the beginning if anyone would like to see that just let me know

I just spoke to the original breeder of the dark knight and if they aren't coming from Israel or South Africa then they're not legit and there is even a copyright in place. NO ONE has these fish in Aus
