My F250 super duty 2013 blew the Bosch CP4 pump & entire high-pressure fuel system 12 miles north of Seattle exactly 3 years ago this Wednesday. I knew nothing about the issues with that pump. I was pulling a trailer. I had two dogs and my wife. It was 108°, we had to limp into a dealership in Coeur d’Alene. They had the truck for nine weeks had to drive home and fly back. That is a $12,000 repair. Very smart move to do the preventative maintenance on this fuel pump. It’ll be worth it in the long run. Congratulations.

Hey Mark.. I did the Pusher upgrade to my 2017 F350 Superduty and love it. But I didn't do the CP4 upgrade and just did the disaster prevention kit. I live in Phoenix and I've had a county emissions check already. The guy was amazed at finding this stuff under the hood. It passed emissions with flying colors BTW. I also did a Banks Ram Air Intake kit. Each time I added a component (1) Banks Ram Air , 2) Hot & cold Pipes, 3) Intake Manifold) to the engine, I got 1-2 mpg better mileage. After all was done, I am now getting on FLAT GROUND an average of 18MPG driving around Phoenix. Before was not better than 13 mpg. Even going up into the hills of Arizona, like Flag and back, I still get better than 17.5 MPG. This is NOT towing anything of course. I feel the horse power gained as well. I can easily burn rubber again without effort. ARod is right on with his upgrades! Best Cliff Bailey

Mark, Good choice and good decision! I bought my 2018 Ram 2500 NEW in 2019, due to the CP4 change. I worked on power generation and distribution specifically the back up generator side for a few years through college. I kept up with the engine industry since graduating college as a engineer, because I was going to get a diesel truck down the road. The CP4 and the 3.0L diesel motors we got from the big three were all EU based. I know that Europeans are our distant cousins but their EU Transport regulations are different and their approved fuel packages are different as well. I worked as a fuel distributor field manager for about 5 years. European fuels are seriously different, to support A-Rod’s statement. I run the Cummins approved Power Service additives in my Ram with the 6.7. Same thing I ran in my power generation role in all the generators, it worked then and now so I trust it! Archoil is not that different, same function different formula. Coke versus Pepsi. Powerstroke guys are more inline with Archoil, Cummins guys more with Power Service. Nice pipes!

Shameful that you even have to do this when GM stopped using this junk fuel pump in 2016. You would think Ford would do a recall and replace these for free, yet they're still using this junk in brand new Super Duty trucks.
@TireFryer4265 ай бұрын
Mark, you should also consider doing a catch can. There is an oils separator cartridge that is part of the EGR system that is replaced at 100k miles - but it generally doesn’t last that long. Once it’s absorbed all the oil it can it goes into bypass mode. So any oil in the recirculated gas goes right back into the intake. This is hard on sensors, but can also lead to other issues like excessive carbon build up. Mishimoto makes a really nice one that doesn’t vent to atmosphere - that’s the one I run on my 450. I’d also highly recommend replacing the fuel return fitting. These are insanely fragile and if it falls apart you are dead on the side of the road. SPE makes an aluminum replacement for about $50 that is worth every cent. They also sell a solid track bar bushing that helps immensely with death wobble.

Sad that a 2023 still has a CP4 in it when Ram discontinued it in 2020 and GM discontinued it in 2016. And of course even a 2024 Ford also has a CP4 fuel pump. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

My CP3 scattered in my 2011 Chevy Duramax 6.6 with only 110k miles on it a couple of years ago! Was towing my 5th wheel hauler through heavy traffic when it failed without any warning. The entire fuel system, including tank was contaminated with metal filings. A nightmare to deal with. I had never heard of the issue and was lucky to find a Duramax guru about 50 miles from home. Replacing the CP3/4 is the only real solution if you intend on keeping your truck. Happy for your upgrade, you won’t regret it. Happy trails friends!
@jimm24426 ай бұрын
Your 2011 Duramax LML did not come with a Bosch CP3. It had a Bosch CP4 and that is what failed. The CP3's do not fail like the CP4's they are completely different designs. A 2011 to 2016 Duramax can however be retrofitted with a CP3 which will solve the CP4 issue. You cannot put a CP3 on a 6.7 Ford, it won't fit. In 2017 Duramax went to a Denso HP4 high pressure fuel pump because of CP4 failures like you experienced. Ford continues to use a CP4 and could care less.

I think Chevy used them from 12-17 or somewhere close to that. Both of my Dmax trucks went over 200k and the one I have now has 214k and it's bone stock and has hade zero failures except for emissions systems, Def tanks, and the sort. It's a very low percentage of failures with a properly maintained Truck. A guy told me change the oil every 5k and fuel filters every 10k and I live by it and have great success. Just trying to give balance to the force;)

Even after flushing, refilling the newer yellow coolant, the temperatures drastically 15 to 20 degrees when towing our camper. Even with the warmer summer temperatures, it continues to run cooler than original. It really works! Thanks for this informative video from ARod, I am a loyal follower. 2017 6.7 316k miles Cp4 actually started failing. Caught it before it was too late. deleted with mild professional tune (100hp) Symptoms for you readers: Lower power, felt like i had little torque. Started when pulling about 6k truck would go into 6 speed, then if i needed to slightly accelerate for example from 65mph to 70 mph, the truck would occasionally go into reduced power mode, If i squeezed the throttle enough to downshift and spool the turbo-NO ISSUES, if i floored it from a stop (which i never do because my tools end up sprinkled everywhere)- no issues. i only had issues with gentle throttle low rpm converter locked. Then the problem accelerated to actually shutting the engine off during the above conditions. after a few months the problem would start to happen with the truck unloaded towing no weight. Same instances, low rpm no boost.. That's when i finally took it in to get fixed. In shop now, mechanic says there is NO contamination, the cp4 is just very week. He's converting to DCR now. He quoted $4k after everything. No retune needed. 3 days. Hope this was helpful Wish me luck

Had the idea of following your tour of Route 66 that you did 2 years ago. Hoping to do that road trip Fall 2025.

Nice work. Did you notice any petformance improvements with the pipe and Arch Oil? I'm thinking the fuel pump is a reliability improvement move and does not impact performance.

Great decision on the DCR and ARod is legit. He has helped me out over the last few years with questions and recommendations for my 2020 6.7. Definitely a solid choice for doing any work on your SuperDuty. I recently replaced my CP4 with the DCR at 122k miles and the peace of mind is worth it as this is my daily driver and I plan to keep this truck indefinitely. Also, I use the Archoil fuel additive at each fill-up and the cleaner at each oil change (5k miles). I've only ever used Archoil or Stanadyne performance additive but I do agree with ARod that I have noticed a little better mileage and regen behavior. Although in my case, I feel like I have a unicorn in that my regens always and I mean always start at 497.1 miles no matter the DPF percentage. The big change since switching to Archoil a couple years ago, is that when it reaches 497.1 miles, it is normally at 65% so I'm getting the same mileage BUT at a lower DPF filter %. Prior to Archoil it was consistently 90-100% when the Regen activated so it is clear in my case that Archoil has made a difference in regen behavior for me. All the best in your travels.

Hello, question, how much does it cost to replace the diesel pump? Thanks for the video.

When you have enough miles / fills using Archoil AR6500, it’d be great to hear whether you’re seeing improvements in fuel economy and MORE IMPORTANTLY, regen frequency. Less torch cycles in the DPF is worth A LOT! Thank you for the ‘specialty’ episode!!
