@@HomeBrewNetwork I dropped a stainless nut in it just to be sure it didn't float on top. I was able to recover a extra 1/3 of a keg on a heavy dry hopped beer when kegging a double brew

Well done Gash. The name “Kegmenter” won’t leave me in peace. It’s a fermenter made from an old keg or made in the shape of a keg and like some other fermenters it can be used for pressure fermentation. But it’s not used as a keg, is it? Am I overthinking this? Yes, probably. But it’s ss and can take pressure so I like it. I’m trying not to buy anything plastic. Thank you. You keep safe - stay home brew and drink beer and make more videos.
@HomeBrewNetwork4 жыл бұрын
For sure it can be used as keg, it is a keg, you could serve from it all day every day, no worries at all! If you really want you can add a dip tube to one of the lids, no issues. Cheers Robert!
@robertschumann38404 жыл бұрын
The Home Brew Network. right, but you would want to transfer out after fermentation and clean and then fill it again. It’s either or. Don’t get me wrong. I like it but it’s strength and purpose is as a fermenter. I have a mini fridge (GF) set up for 3 corny kegs and this wouldn’t work for me as a keg but I like the ss fermentation. Thank you
@HomeBrewNetwork4 жыл бұрын
@@robertschumann3840 Theres no rules, some people ferment in corny kegs and serve from them, some do it with the fermzilla, some people will transfer from one keg to another, no rules, and 99.999% of the time you'll taste no difference either way. Too small a batch and drank too quick to be effected by the scary things people say, autolysis, grassiness, whatever, chances of any of that happening while being stored cold in a fridge is next to nothing. Though I would transfer into a corny just so i fit more in the kegerator like you say! If I used kegs this size, diameter, normal keg size, in my fridges to serve from I would prefer this style by a mile over the standard pub ones with a spear etc cleaning them is a nightmare, a guess at best. These can be cleaned very quickly and easily, thats the most important thing in my book about brewing, its not sanitising, its cleaning, you cant sanitise a turd. lol.. Of course these arent for every one, size, weight, shape, but as far as a keg or fermenter I see no issue. Cheers Robert! Stay safe mate!

The Home Brew Network Thank you. I’m in NZ; where could I buy one and you get some benefit? I’d need to get me one of them spudnik valves too. It’s my next step but still thinking. Fermentation under pressure and minimal plastic. I like. Thanks again. Robert.

I have two, they are great, I’m prob 10 brews through, all the disadvantages are simply because you can’t see inside, like transfer out, filling up with water etc.

Glad your doin well. I’m pretty much over lockdown myself. Question website mentions you can add the temp twister. Any idea how this can be done and under pressure? Also adding a heating element, would this kill the pressure fermentation capability. Great vids.
@HomeBrewNetwork4 жыл бұрын
Yes the temp twister will work under pressure as far as I know, you would need to modify a lid. I wouldnt add a heating element for beer, but I guess you could, I'll be heating with a heat belt externally and cooling using a fridge. Cheers!

thanks for the video Gash, im toying with switching to stainless but don’t want the extra closed transfer/pressure options and want a tap so might go for the conical bucket they have but there not cheap. I ordered the bucket blaster and i’m keen to use it but they sent it to me without the duotight fittings to connect the quick disconnects to the tubing so waiting on those to come in the mail 🤦🏻♂️

I just think a conical fermenter with a dump valve on the bottom will always be superior to something like this. I also don't understand why fermenting under pressure has become such a thing lately. Aren't people concerned about diacetyl anymore?
@HomeBrewNetwork4 жыл бұрын
In years I’ve been fermenting under pressure none of the beers have suffered diacetyl not in the slightest. Of course there are better fermenters but they also cost twice or triple the price! As I said in the video fermenting under pressure isn’t why I use these it’s the oxygen free transfers that make a huge undeniable difference to freshness and longevity. I don’t have the room or the money to get a conical stainless fermenter and then I’d also need a couple of new fridges or a glycol system. I think that if I won the lottery I might consider it, but I’m just a home brewer and that sort of set is kind of ridiculous overkill for what would be no improvement what so ever in the quality of the end product. Beer. Ultimately that’s what matters, big set ups might make people feel good but with no improvement it’s a hard case to sell. We can talk about dumping using a conical but even then the scale we brew on at home there isn’t really much use dumping the yeast, unless you’re serving from the vessel and keeping for months it really doesn’t make much difference... to truly dump the yeast and clear it all out of 5 or 6 or 10 gallon batch your going to lose a gallon, otherwise again it’s just for show, because a quick dump of a litre or quart to get rid of the bulk of the yeast still leaves a crapload behind. Besides all that... I never push the products as the be all end all. It’s just the stuff I buy to try out.. I’m a stay at home dad, KZbin makes less than $50 a week... It will be a long time before I buy brewery space or brewery equipment, just trying to pay the rent... Cheers mate have a great weekend!
@finnroohomebrewing4 жыл бұрын
Very cool fermenter . Take care over there. We hear about it everyday in the news and it doesn't sound good at all. Why aren't we allowed to talk about the virus on KZbin? I didn't know about that. Cheers mate 😎👍

It just brings heat. You can’t have a opinion that KZbin disagrees with.. so it’s best left unsaid. Besides that not really interested talking about lol not saying I disagree with KZbin, I have no idea on their stance Cheers mate

Great video about this innovative piece of equipment. I recently got one and I’m very pleased. Very simple, not a lot of “moving parts” to deal with. There’s a Facebook group for Kegmenter users. Very small - only four to date. If you want to share your experiences, check it out.
